Great review - thanks! My plan is to order one with both driver and passenger swivel seats. They both appear to have armrests as far as I can tell.
@AbsoluteAwesomeEnt5 жыл бұрын
@Michael Hackett Hi Michael! Have you found a swivel that won't raise the seat any higher? The other problem I run into, is that "Noone" seems to want to install a swivel or even a swivel seat b/c they're afraid the airbags will go off or they mess up the airbag system. I have no power options or even the 2 manual buttons on the side to adjust the front lower cushion up higher for my back.
@laurakramer3965 жыл бұрын
check to see if your seat is bumped up. saw a video where it showed the seat bumped up and it would put your line of vision up higher because you're taller and it wouldn't be correct for you. I'd have to have a power seat so I could change the seat to make my back more comfortable.

For what it’s worth, we have armrests on both seats. It makes it a bit more difficult to move from the drivers seat to the back of the van, as it’s a bit more narrow.

We have had our Promaster for 15 months now, agree with everything you have said. I am 6' 1" and thought I had to have the seat at it's highest because of the length of my legs, I was wrong, I now drive with the seat at it's lowest , and back to a comfortable setting. This lowered me enough that I can see more of the sky down the road and use the sun visor. Give it a try, it might work for you also. See you down the road.

I got my 3500 hi-top 159” WB in May of 2015 and have 90K miles. I am 6ft and did not like the low shelf at first but, I got used to it. You can remove the shelf easily as the base models come without it. Or, cut the driver’s side off. Lol 😂 I like the shelf to much to do that yet! ?? You, can order the passenger seat with an arm rest so, maybe that one might be mountable on the drivers seat too. Been thinking of ordering one for my passenger seat too. I love the adjustment knob on the bottom of the arm.. I have the same seats, uconnect radio/backup camera, and the towing package with extra wide mirrors, and I agree they work very well. Btw, I have at least 2000 lbs of product every day and have plenty of traction and power to do my business. I live in Houston TX so, it’s pretty darn flat around here but it rains a lot and really high bridge over the Houston Ship Channel that I crossed over in the rain and had no problems. I have the Chrysler Pentastar 3.6 V6 gas engine truck version w/6spd automatic trans. My load carrying capacity is almost 4000 lbs.. Just a side note: The Promaster (Fiat Ducato)designed by Fiat, Renault and Peugeot in 1981 and is the number 1 selling van in Europe. They have only made 4.5 million of them so far.... Also, the brakes ARE BREMBO’s and they are awesome .. Happy Trails!

i driven the 3500 for 8 months .. the lights suck. heater sucks . and can;t lock the doors with key in it. but for carrying weight 2000lbs .. ive had 2400lbs in it struggled on ice...censores are issue in this van too. but the front wheel drive and engine really good fuel economy and can turn on a dime.. good acceleration. seats arnt that comforatable.. where it shines is in the snow that blew me away and doesn't kickout as much as transits do.

I would like to see what your mileage is when calculated by hand. Mine van is the same as yours but I only get 16 around town. I am really disappointed in the MPG given that I drive it very gently coasting to stops and slowly accelerating from a stop. I second what Jim JN said about lowering the seat as it really does make it more comfortable.

It's really too bad we can't get a van with aq manual transmission.
@1SqueakyWheel6 жыл бұрын
A manual transmission would be so miserable with an engine that small pulling a car that heavy. The torque converter is the only thing making it even remotely possible. With a manual transmission, they'd just never sell these things because people would feel like they were back in the 60's pushing a VW microbus with a 3 speed manual pushed by a tiny 55hp engine. That was fine when people approached performance conservatively and with utilitarian expectations... but you couldn't sell that setup very well nowadays. The Dodge Promaster with a 3.6 liter gasoline v6 would be a total dog with a manual tranny. It needs that automatic tranny's torque converter to multiply the torque to make up the vast difference.

I just wrote my own review after having this thing about 2 years, and realized I wrote a review further down after I had it 3 months which I still agree with everything I said there. Since then I've had a piece of exterior trim pop off, and I had to have my horn replaced twice. Also one of my front wheels is loose (there is play back in the joint, or something like that my mechanic told me (not his exact words) and there is a jarring feeling when going over bumps that has been like that since I bought it..

@americanrambler49726 жыл бұрын
2 things. First. The seats use the 2 latches on the side seat bottom base to raise, lower and tilt the seat. It gives quite a bit of tilt and height adjustment combinations. Second. Check with the dealer. Sometimes there are provisions in the seat design which allow folding armrests to be added. The attachment points may already be there under the upholstery. You may be able to order the factory adjustable armrests and have them installed by the dealer. I once was driving a Volvo truck and the drivers seat frame due to defect failed. The new replacement seat installed did not come with arm rests. They removed them from my old seat and just plugged them into the new one. It’s worth a shot.

What do you think about the transmission shifting down by itself going down hills? I'm an expediter and drive all over the USA in a 2014 Ram Promaster 3500. Lets say the speed limit is 70 mph and I'm going down a hill that everyone is going 70 mph or faster, this van will instantly shift down 2 gears and my rpms will go from around 2,200 and jump up to over 4,000 rpms!!!! I have to hit the brakes and slow down because the engine is revving way too hi. My owner has 12 of these vans and everyone of them does it. Even his 2018 models. He has replaced the cams in this van 2 times and 2 rocker arms. I think it's because of the over revving of the engine. Most people would just keep going 70 mph and let the engine scream. I don't. I can be loaded or empty and it does it. I have asked several dealers about it and they all act stupid about it and say the transmission is working properly. I'm buying this van in 2 months from my owner and would like to get the computer programmed to take that option out and just let it work like a regular transmission. What are your thoughts?? P.S... There is 456,000 miles on this van. Thanks!!!

Hi. Thanks for the video and info. I too wish pass seat had an armrest and wish mine was a little closer as well. I'm short so visor is ok. Maybe you can just push the visor up toward the windshield more in some cases and see better. I was disappointed when I couldn't get out of my own grassy yard after a couple days heavy rain b/c all it did was dig trenches into my yard and get me stuck for a couple days. I couldn't find a traction control button anywhere and just didn't know how to get out. I'll have to find it b/c I hear these vans are good in the snow b/c of the FWD with the weight of the motor & trans in the front. I'm starting to customize mine now w/a collapsible bed that'll set up quick and work well. Looking forward to many years of enjoyment in my "newsed" (2015) PV! Thx Again! Happy Camping!

Thanks for sharing. I really appreciate your spending time on the interior height aspect. All too often people will either gloss over it or not mention it at all. With my being 6'2" it's a priority and I tend to wonder about what the headroom would be like after adding insulation to both the floor and ceiling along with other materials. I'm currently vacillating between a Transit and Promaster. I also appreciate your showing the interior width for people interested in knowing what they will have to work with as far as sleeping quarters design. Not too sure what kind of insulation you have inside for ceiling, walls and floor but as someone who is likely to be staying in various climates, it will be important for me to know what I'll have left to work with after installation of insulation which itself I'm still trying to sort out what will give me the maximum for the minimum space taking and cost. If I could make one suggestion as far as your video/audio recording it would be to try and adjust the way your audio is recorded and that is to somehow soften the tone. I don't believe it's your voice but rather the way it's recorded that is a bit difficult to listen to. Again, Good Luck and Thanks again!
@billisa6 жыл бұрын
Yes, in our current videos we have upgraded our cameras and microphones. Thanks. Also, we used rigid insulations boards/sheets. We live where it is hot and too much insulating just keeps the heat in. It doesn't matter how well you insulate. 100 degrees is 100 degrees and you want to be able to get the heat out. In a very cold climate you would need to try and keep the cold out and the heat in. Thanks again.

Because of the great back up camera and we like it really really dark. We have complete dark out curtains at the cab. We can have lights on inside an no-one outside can tell. We sometimes pull into a nice neighborhood and park on the street and go to sleep.

interesting that your seat is so high. my Fiat Ducato (your van is a rebadged Ducato) seat is a good height for me at 6ft. Maybe the Dodge seats are higher. Also it's a shame you don't get the diesel engines over in the States, 30mpg with the Iveco 3L engine in my Ducato :D
@RealityIsTheNow6 жыл бұрын
Tough to get diesels certified over here. US has extremely strict air quality laws. Usually requires a lot of extra expensive emssions equipment under the hood.
@steveherzing65966 жыл бұрын
You can get the Ram Promaster with the 3L Diesel w Dual Clutch Automatic Trans. I believe it was about $3-4000 extra in 2015. It has that hesitation in the shift process and they were working on the programming to help with that issue. I almost got one in my 2015 3500 159”wb extended body but, I only drive about 30,000 a year and thought the operating expense and initial cost wasn’t practical. I’ve been happy with the 3.6 V6.. but I kinda wanted the diesel too..😂
@1SqueakyWheel6 жыл бұрын
Actually I see Dodge Promasters with diesel engines all the time. They seem to be all fleet vehicles though. For private ownership, I believe people are just intimidated by the differences and don't want to mess with them. Diesels are automatically more expensive to maintain, even though they'll generally go equally longer between scheduled maintenance intervals, and usually last twice as long also. The biggest selling point is that it would TREMENDOUSLY increase the MPGs. But that's not enough to sell people who are more comfy with petrol engines like this one.

But what if it's a known flaw? lol It could be in the receiver unit or the interface. It could be with the ECU itself. It could just be a high occurrence of failure in the wheel sender units. @1SqueakyWheel6 жыл бұрын
I hope GM retains the RWD with their van when it comes out like Ford did with the Transit. I hate that GM discontinued their Express/Savana series. But then again, I still prefer Econolines as my go-to van anyway, so perhaps I'm biased by the generations. I just like proven designs. I'm still not sold on Dodge's Promaster for many reasons. Much preferred Dodge just selling the Merc Sprinters under their badge. Those are pretty great vans.

I can almost turn as tightly as my vw, but mine is only the midsize. I'm so short, I don't need a high top

I have the 3500 hi-top159” wheelbase extended and the turning radius is so much shorter than my old ford e350 138.5” wheelbase, that you can’t believe it.

Hah, anyone notice at number 2 like while talking about gas mileage, he is on empty?

I’d be less worried about your video and more about running out of fuel..... driving low on fuel is bad for the fuel pump.... it runs exposed and runs hotter than when you maintain a higher fuel level.

Wait, that was TWO things you dont like.

I've seen quite a few videos on the promaster and none of them make it look like you're a giant in a toy van. I don't understand that, kind of weird. I guess I'm just going to have to get off my ass and test drive one.

Well he's a tall guy, and I believe he has the shortest model. It really does look dwarfed by that Sprinter, but it still has a large feel to it up close.

The seats can be adjusted so that they're lower. The adjusters are tricky to find. Hopefully he found them. Looks like he bought the 1500. That's the smallest one they make.

MADE IN MEXICO
@paulstoloff39454 жыл бұрын
Today's vehicles are not "Made" anywhere. They have an assembly location using parts sourced all over the world. This is true of any vehicle on the planet, including those assembled in US. That's the way it is today for ALL auto companies. So best to choose the vehicle that's right for you, regardless of where it's assembled. But the Promaster engineering and marketing is primarily in the US with parts sourced mostly in North America including the US. By the way, the Ram Promaster, Mercedes Sprinter and Ford Transit are all European designed vehicles. So regardless of which one you choose, they all have their roots across the pond.

I like how you have the back of your Promaster fixed up, pretty cool. I've had a 2015 2500 high and long diesel for about 18 months now. I use it as a courier/expediter and it has been all over east of the Mississippi. Bought it with 13K miles on it and have about 109K on it now ( I have a Prius I use also for smaller loads). I agree about the back up camera, it's easier to back up than my Prius. Overall, the van has been pretty decent. MPG is fantastic in the diesel averaging 25-26 mpg. I usually keep it around 71-73 mph on the highway so I could probably get a little better if I cut back to the high 60s. One thing I don't like and I have read on different forums about is in cold weather the parking brake will freeze up. From what I've seen, it's a pretty expensive repair. Mine did it a couple of times last winter so I try not to use it when it is cold. The diesel tranny doesn't have a park and you are supposed to turn it off in gear so if I'm on fairly level ground I just use that. Hope you're still happy with your Promaster. Thanks for you're great review.

Thank you for the nice review. We are in the middle of a remodel currently. We have owned our van a year and everything is perfect with it. One problem we have is the tire pressure light no matter what we do stays on. I know if we took the time to go to the dealer they can change the sensors but we haven't gotten around to it yet.
