RAM ProMaster 3" Lift Kit by Off Highway Van

Off Highway Van owner and automotive engineer, Aaron Pfadt, designed a custom lift kit which provides 3" more clearance to the RAM ProMaster. Lifting the front half of the vehicle includes adding spacers on top of the struts as well as careful consideration of geometrical variables like driveshaft angles, steering angles, etc. In the rear of the van we use a spindle plate to rotate the spindle downward relative to the axle, which produces 2.5" of clearance in the rear. This aggressive lift is designed to not only raise the vehicle but lift the solid rear axle itself, which results in well over 9" of rear axle clearance. FYI, where the steering column comes out of the body, to the steering rack. There is a black hard plastic cover in which the column travels through, that has a foam weather seal on the upper side of it. Its to stop splashes and air from coming into the cabin. After the kit is installed there is a gap there because the whole steering rack is lower in relaton to the body. You can't just slide the hard plastic cover up towards the body. Its clipped into the steering column assembly. OHV should include a foam seal to where the installer can tuck the seal in between the body and hard plastic seal cover. I'm thinking there is a lot of vans with this kit on running around with this space wide open to the world. Also The transmission mount bolt that runs side to side is not a nut and bolt everyone. Its a bolt with a inserted nut that has been pressing into the aluminum mount. It doesn't turn, only the bolt turns when removing. Ha ha save you some time there to first time installers. My best to all, and thanks to OHV for making good and easy instructions to read. More tourque specs would of been nice. I did notice on my instruction handout pictures would cover some of the instructions.

I bought this lift plus suspension upgrade and boy has it made a difference! I used to scrape bottom all the time that's no longer a worry, and the ride is much stiffer in conditions like cross wind. It totally transformed the van. Money well spent.

It's not just lifting the suspension that matters but also installing a heavy duty shocks such as FALCON or FOX to better stabilize the ride performance of the vehicle and be more off road capable.

Now if you would add a high torque electric motor to the rear wheels that only engaged when you actually needed it off road to get you out of a jam, then you would really have something. Maybe you could use the 48V battery/charger-motor system like the "mild-hybrid" I have in my 2020 RAM 1500 pickup with 5.7 Hemi eTorque that gives an extra boost when needed for low RPM take-off. You could engage a torquey rear wheel electric only when you need to get thru the rough. The RAM 1500 pickup's 48V battery only has a 430Wh capacity (use in short bursts). On a camper van that could be upped 5 to 10 times and double as the camper house battery. With Ford Transit going AWD, FCA could use a hybrid 4x4 concept vehicle.

Our ProMaster Lift kit does not categorically void any factory warranties, however the dealership does have the power to decide for themselves. It is best to have a good understanding of issues that frequent a stock ProMaster.

Does it do alot of bouncing with the 3 inch spacers? Trucks that I've been in that have had their struts raised bounce alot. Then again that was a truck and alot less weight in the back. I would assume the weight of the van holds it down some. Plus all the shit that goes in them.

We've noticed that lifting the van, as well as upgrading the shocks will help stabilize the van in cross winds.

Upgrading the shocks is not necessary, but it will make the van ride nicer and overall more capable.

Currently, the kit is only approved for the US version of the RAM ProMaster. We are working on some modifications for it to work on European versions of this van, as well as European sales. Stay tuned.

Any thoughts on adding bigger tires to the Promaster after doing the lift? - Stock tire size is I225/75/R16 - I've seen some people put on bigger tires (245/75/R16) - is that a good idea or will it mess up handling (sway / cornering / turning), mileage, transmission gear hunting?

Since OHV ain’t getting back to us…I did some research. Adding 245’s would decrease fuel efficiency, increase gear search, increase weight, decrease handling, increase road irritability. It would increase lift on the axle. I think I am sticking with an all terrain- beefier 225. Tell me why I should go to a 245?

It is a bigger step, for sure. We'll be offering some step options in the future. Most Travatos and Solis vans do come with steps, however.

@@mjones9639 Sumo springs on the front (Without a lift kit) work great. However, adding Sumo springs on the front of the vehicle on top of our lift kit puts too much strain on the axles - leading to potential damage. Hopefully this helps answer your question - Thanks!

It actually helps. The spindle spacers on the rear widen the overall stance of the vehicle about a half an inch on either side, providing more stability.

Hey guys, what's the current feedback on long term impact to the CV axles? I'm buying a 2018 2500 and need to lift it for greater ground clearance (has a wheelchair lift under the body). Is there anything people are doing that reduces the stress on the axles or eliminates the risk of them wearing g prematurely? I'm hoping guys from the shop can chime in...

The only ProMasters this lift does not fit are 2021+ due to a wind sensor issue with the new chassis design. We are working directly with the RAM team to attempt to solve this issue on newer models, but it is a process.

It will slightly change the feel of towing, but should not alter its capacity in any way. The RAM ProMaster can tow around 6700 lbs, so you are more than safe to continue towing at 4500.
