RAM PROMASTER VAN BUILD - RV Cedar Ceiling

Welcome to video 22 in our van build series. Today we are going to install our cedar ceiling.
Home Depot had a minor sale on ½” tongue and groove cedar. So this time I figured rather than making dimensional lumber from rough cut cedar we have on hand, like I did on our porch project, I would save myself a ton of time and buy premade.
I watched half dozen videos on this topic prior to starting. There are lots of good tips, and some pitfalls to avoid. Well I made my own mistakes, which cost me time, and a little money, and I’ll share those with you so you don’t make the same mistake.
Lastly, I’m going to share with you the most important step that you can’t skip. This step may make the difference between a handy-man special and a professional installation.

How is the ceiling working out? I’m concerned about expansion and contraction.

Hi, thanks for the question. Our ceiling has been installed for over a year now. Since then, we have traveled almost coast to coast, five states and 4 provinces. Nothing has come loose, nothing squeaks. I used both brad nails and PL Construction adhesive, which I am a fan of. The brad nails are just to hold the boards until the PL sets. I thought the reason you use Cedar is for the smell so why seal it and lose the smell???

It is way overdone, like crazy overdone. But better than, doing a shitty job. One tip - play dough, use it to locate the rivnuts against the planks.
