On April 29, 1848, Raja Ravi Varma was born in Kilimanoor Palace . His home was filled with colour as he captured the imagination of the people of the Indian sub-continent and beyond. He built a studio in the palace premises which is affectionately called the 'Chitrashala' by all his fans. Today, we bring you a unique view of the Chitrashala as it resonates with the music.
Singing specially for the Ganesh Shivaswamy Foundation is Rama Varma Thampuran, a descendant of the great artist. An eminent musician who carries on the inimitable artistic legacy of Kilimanoor through song has rendered to melody a poem written by Raja Ravi Varma himself.
This is a sloka written by Artist Raja Ravi Varma himself who was also a scholar and a poet. Pointing to his painting of Lord Shiva as Kirat (in the form of a hunter and Parvathi as Kirathi- huntress,) Ravi Varma Goddess Parvati if he had picturised her appropriately as she was portrayed devoid of the customary traditional costumes and embellishments.
The Ganesh Shivaswamy Foundation was happy to receive the support of the Kilimanoor Palace Trust and Ramavarma Kilimanoor in its' continued endeavor to structure the legacy of Raja Ravi Varma. The Foundation thankfully acknowledges the Trust for its support.
