I can't fathom Japan's beauty. You know that feeling when you try to think about the universe and how infinitely big it is but just can't? That's what i also feel when thinking about Japan. It's as if mother nature put all the most diverse and beautiful environments all in that small island.

One day in May 2010, I took a bus from Beppu Station to Yufu-tozan-guchi, hiked to the top of Yufu-dake, then walked down to the mountain to Yufuin. Next to Kinrin-ko I took a dip in the Shitan-yu public onsen, then walked through the tourist village to Yufuin Station before taking the train back to Beppu. Thanks for reminding me of that day!

I have a friend who lives in Yufuin and she invited me to stay for 3 weeks in 2013. It was a wonderful experience in that beautiful little town. She told me that Yufuin is one of the most famous onsen towns in Japan. Her house on the side of a hill had lovely views overlooking the central part of town. It had a beautiful bathroom with a large basin surrounded by large colourful rocks. It was constantly fed with hot water from a pipe that was sunk deep into the ground. What a memorable experience... sitting in a very hot bath looking at Mt Yufu through the open window. We used Yufuin as a base and toured many surrounding areas. I remember buying many souvenirs in that street you show around 22:15. Thank you for the memories. By the way, your interactive map is the best idea ever. I love following your walk videos on it.
definitely this is my favorite youtube channel now.

I'm reminded of the Poem "The Daffodils". Dedicated to you Rambalac. I wandered lonely as a cloud That floats on high o'er vales and hills, When all at once I saw a crowd, A host, of golden daffodils; Beside the lake, beneath the trees, Fluttering and dancing in the breeze. Continuous as the stars that shine And twinkle on the milky way, They stretched in never-ending line Along the margin of a bay: Ten thousand saw I at a glance, Tossing their heads in sprightly dance. The waves beside them danced; but they Out-did the sparkling waves in glee: A poet could not but be gay, In such a jocund company: I gazed-and gazed-but little thought What wealth the show to me had brought: For oft, when on my couch I lie In vacant or in pensive mood, They flash upon that inward eye Which is the bliss of solitude; And then my heart with pleasure fills, And dances with the daffodils. - William Wordsworth (1815)

I had been to Yufuin, Hakone, Tamatsukuri, Dogo, Awara, Toyako, Kaike and Okuhida before. I think Yufuin is the most comfortable Onsen area that I ever visited, there is no high building and the air is really fresh. You will feel that you are in a small Matsuri when you are walking in 湯の坪街道 and 湯の坪横丁. It is a real onsenKYOU and different from some Onsen Area that is located in a City or near a City....
