@@RamblinAround Well, I can believe it, my friend built a 396 that turned low 10's and 130+ at Columbus, it had two four barrel carbs, but no nitrous.
@RamblinAround4 жыл бұрын
@@doublel7337 We have a GPS unit, called a Dragy. So, we know what it runs in the quarter on an unprepped street. Spinning all the way through first, and on the smallest nitrous shot, it traps in the 120's. I'm hoping to swap in a 9" rear over the winter, so I can hit the track on some slicks next season. With traction and more nitrous, it should be pretty quick.
@doublel73374 жыл бұрын
@@RamblinAround It needs the drag slicks, it will be interesting to see what it will do. You built a great engine, no doubt about it.

The GTO has an Edelbrock mechanical pump good to 600+hp for the engine only, as well as it's own separate 380 LPH pump, supply line, regulator, and return line just for my nitrous plate.

I'm curious about your decision to go with a flat tappet cam after you ended up switching to aluminum heads. I'm just getting started on my rebuild and have those same #16 heads that you started with. Not sure if I want to go the roller route either. Eagke 461 stroker kit is in my shopping cart, just waiting to hear back from the machine shop that the block is healthy. Thanks for any insights you might have. Your car is sounding great!
@RamblinAround4 жыл бұрын
Thanks, I appreciate that. Most people would probably go with a roller cam these days, because of more modern designs, with more aggressive ramps, etc. I had originally ordered the XE284H to run with my #16 heads, but then I later decided to go with the ported aluminum heads. I considered switching to a roller at that point, but they aren't cheap and I already had the other cam. Also, I had heard about quite a few roller lifter failures (I'd go with Johnson lifters if you go roller). Despite some of the negative talk about them, I have never had a single problem out of a flat tappet cam. As long as you do a proper break-in, and run the right oil, they are fine. The XE284H gave me the specs I was looking for, after I went to 1.65 rockers. Lift is .557 IN / .561 EX, and duration is 240 IN / 246 EX @ .050. Could I make more top end horsepower with a massive roller? Yes, for sure. But my engine is under-stressed, makes plenty of low and midrange power, and still pulls strong to 6500 when I want to. Also, I just hit it with nitrous when I need more :) Butler would probably recommend you go roller, as they did with me. I just chose to go my own way.

Have you run a quarter mile yet and if not will you be doing one soon?
@RamblinAround4 жыл бұрын
I have tested it with the Dragy GPS unit on the street. It traps in the 120's on the smallest nitrous jets, but that's with it spinning all the way through first, and a bit through second. It'll be a lot faster on a prepped track, and of course with the bigger shot of nitrous. Over the winter, I want to swap in a Ford 9" rear, so I can run slicks. I'll definitely film the first runs at the track.
