SuperPI is 32-bit x86 application compiled by the Borland C++ Compiler 5 (1996 year). It makes extensive use of x87 FPU instructions. Thus, SuperPI score was extremely relevant in the last millennium.

Also, if we look at the pricing vs branding, 5600x is priced at 299usd whereas 3600 was 200usd. This means there's no Product at the 200usd price point. Now, I understand that there's a significant improvement in the IPC, but still, if we look at people who say "you get more performance, so the company deserves to charge you more", doesn't Intel's 10600KF makes more sense than 3600, according to their statement? And if we look at "cheap performance", I'd prefer 3600 and 3300x over AMD's 5th Gen counterparts. I'm not saying Ry5000 is bad, (5900x is a killer for the price), I'm saying "there must be an option for people who don't want to spend much".

to be honest, I would pay more quickly for a 5950x then for a 3080...
@LunarLaker3 жыл бұрын
I think I need a rationale here, are you not using/amortizing the gpu? Are we comparing to conpetitors/previous generation? Assuming MSRP and buying from the latest product stack, you get 33% more cores for $250/45% more dollas (5900x vs 5950x) compared to 47% more SMs for $200/40% more cashiola (3070 vs 3080). If it's about availability, I'd imagine they'd both have supply issues that end around the same time, assuming meaningful Nvidia supply has been made in the last month
@kar3513 жыл бұрын
@@LunarLaker I could easily said the same for a 3900x. Lets get real, the only people that need a high end video card are content creators, and gamers that stream (and even on this last one, they do not need high end video card). The thing is, if anyone could remember, when the 2080ti came out and the RX5700xt, there were differences in games. The 2080ti always gave much more fps then a 5700, but at what cost? No one will ever tell me, that my gameplay will be better in any game if I can get more 30 or 40 fps above a 5700 when both cards in almost all games pass 100 fps in high settings. The race to the higher FPS is just bs, a brainwash made by the brands to say "our product is better". In the last steam survey, about 75% of gamers use a Intel, why not? It is still the best CPU in a single core performance, but at a high price, while 25% uses AMD. In the month of september Intel has lost a few points and AMD gain those points. I just think they will be even more distant now. The most popular video card is a 1060 with 10.63% of users, the 2070 super has 2.14% of users, followed by the rx580 with 2.13%, the 2080ti is way bellow with cards like the rx570 and the rx5700 above it, by a minimal margin, granted, but we can see why. The primary resolution used by over 60% of gamers in steam is 1080. So, in that resolution you do not need a high end card, to have a great game experience. Now, if we put dollars in the equation, AMD gets the lead in terms of price / performance / fps. Both for CPU's and GPU's. Even if now, the top of the line from the 5000 series cpu barely pass or reach 10900k, (which to be honest I doubt it) in single core (because we know very well i terms of productivity, AMD already won the war 4 years ago) and even if the new gpu's 6000 series do not get near a 3080 (notice that I did not even mention the 3090) the price / performance comparison will be a win for AMD. Even considering that products from AMD will be a bit more expensive that we were used to. Why not? They know they have a quality product now that can compete with Intel and Nvidia. If that would not be the case, why did Nvidia release the 3080 with that MSRP? They know very well whats coming, probably more then any of us. In a time where efficiency is key and power draw is the norm, they put a product to sale that I have to move house, by a new house near a dam just to feed a hungry 3090, oh, and lets hope I do not overclock otherwise I am going to blow up all the lights on peoples home in my town. The only thing I see good in a 3090 is the amount of ram, nothing else. But for a normal PC consumer, be that a gamer or not, both cards are not worthy. I am not going even to address the OC problems they came out, so in essence, it looks like Nvidia made something on purpose just to get a bit more of performance against the brands that sell the other cards (Asus, MSI, etc), then they release a driver, that slow down the card, a great fix. Or maybe a bad engineering decision from the start. Also, I find it funny, delaying the release of the 3070 after AMD. So, again, they know something, or so they think. They probably think a 3070 will be enough to kill any 6000 series AMD will release, so, they are basically following the same strategy from the other releases, like the RX500 series, and the 5000 series. For example lets look at the 5600Xt, that is an amazing card, for gaming and very efficient in power, something that most cards of Nvidia are not. The same is happening with Intel CPU's, hot like hell, power hungry, expensive, in a old architecture that seams they cannot pass over that. I have been waiting to upgrade my PC for 3 years now, I bought a cheap RX580 8gb because my or R7 was in the shit, but, it seams this is the year, I will get a new PC. Oh and even if they did "claim" they have no plans to launch different sku's of the cpu's, we all know that is bs, they first have to sell the most quality the wafers dropped first. Then we will see the "no X) versions and probably following the same lineup of the 3000 series. About availability, is bad logistics from Nvidia, in fact, the whole launch from Nvidia, seemed a bit in a hurry... I wonder why. We can blame the pandemic and all of that, and I can even admit that might cause some issues, but a massive worldwide out of stock? So they just made gpu's for youtubers? Give me a break.
@LunarLaker3 жыл бұрын
@@kar351 that's an awful lot of text there buddy. All I'm saying is that it makes no sense to choose a more expensive CPU than GPU for high end gaming. If you consider 1080p60 a great game experience, that's fine. But I'll say that the NES was a great game experience too at 480p30
@KadiusFTW3 жыл бұрын
@@LunarLaker if you play games like Civ 6, csgo/valorant and Star Citizen, then it does because of the cpu bound nature. But even in gpu bound none of these current offerings from nvidia make sense for anyone who is at 1080p or dare I say 1440p. I have both a vega 56 in my main rig and a 2060 KO in my workstation and both of them give me 100+ fps in most titles at 1440p with high setting and medium shadows.
@LunarLaker3 жыл бұрын
@@KadiusFTW Hold on. I had a comment written with 3 arguments against your points, but every time I read your comment, I got more confused. So I'll assume you read my *first* comment, and we're thinking of the same scenario of whether 5900x -> 5950x or 3070 -> 3080 gives better value. You're arguing that CPU bound games will benefit more from 100 Mhz boost and 4 cores than GPU bound games will benefit from a 47% larger GPU, because GPU bound games won't benefit at 1080p and 1440p? Why won't they benefit? The ROP count? High framerates only count if the game's CPU-bound? Also, why aren't we talking about 4k or UWQHD for parts that cost more than some PC builds? And the fact you can OC a 5600x to get similar clocks? And that games don't all have the same workloads?

For gaming, I think the 5800x is going to be the best processor out there. Its 105w TDP and it has all its cores on one CCX with unified cache. This will let you take advantage of much faster memory (DDR4-4600 for example) without worrying about the infinity fabric speeds being decoupled. Reason being that the communication is kept within the 1 ccx with no need to talk to any other ccd's. There is no penalty that I can think of now for running fast memory speeds. the bigger processors, 5900x and 5950x still have a 2 chiplet design and wont be able to take advantage of the higher memory speeds without hurting the infinity fabric speed that it relies on. Thats why I think the 5800x is going to be the smart choice for gaming rigs. More so than their big brothers.

I have some questions I'd love to get some answers to if someone have the time. First, I got the 3700X in november 2019, so when Buildzoid talks about CPU improvements from lanuch to current stock, what kinds of improvements are we talking about? I'm mostly curious. Also, I'm planning to get one of the new AMD RDNA 2 cards depending on pricing and review. I'm also planning to get a 1440p screen next year but I'm currently rocking a 1080p resolution and I'm thinking about upgrading the CPU to a 12 core Ryzen as well. My reasoning for this would be that *a.)* I got the 3700X on a below MSRP deal last year and *b.)* I want to do more virtualization on my PC now and later down the road. I actually only got a new PC because I knew that AM4 would be supported for another cycle, but I'm not really sure what my needs are and that often answers the question "should I upgrade", though a 12 or even 16 core CPU is really appealing to me if I would be able to do more virtualization. Any tips on how to get a better picture of what amount of power one needs to do virtualization, like could I realistically start using Linux as a main OS and run W10 in VM and not loose a significant amount of frames or get bad frame pacing? Also, should I go with a AMD or Nvidia card for good VM support? Ideally I would use a new card for the W10 VM and use my older Nvidia 1060 3gb for Linux. Lastly, what amount of RAM should I look for -- 32 gb or 64 gb?

I believe the largest performance uplift is yet to come and it will be around zen 4 or intel something. Meanwhile I am currently running an I5-6600k @4.6Ghz on a Z170x Gigabyte mobo that I bought back in 2016. I had no idea that the new Intel CPUs are all using Skylake cores XD. My laptop has a Ryzen 7 3700U in it still wins against my I5 just barely in cinebench, although that is due to multithreading. It still loses to single core performance which makes sense. It would be nice to upgrade but I certainly don't need to and I don't have the money for it anyways lol. Also, I am running 2x8GB GSkill DDR4 DIMMs at 2400 Mhz and I am wondering what I would need to do to overclock them. I have seen benchmarks of people running it at 3200 Mhz and higher but I am a numpty when it comes to memory overclocking. Any suggestions where I can find more info?

I presently have a 3900X but i am thinking of the 5800X now, just cause having 8 cores able to communicate with each other and the bouncing threads on AMD CPU's as it over volts the core then offloads to another just having the one CCX/CCD maybe better than threads being moved over to another CCD. This time round however i am not going to be a day one user

With the approaching release of DDR5 - probably next year - does it really make sense to upgrade to Ryzen 5000 or better wait for next year ? I have a Ryzen 2600 with a cheap mobo + 8gb 2400mhz XFX R9 390 Pc is used only for gaming.
@userise2223 жыл бұрын
if you waited everytime because there is newer tech coming, you wouldn't upgrade anything. if you have a motherboard that support 5000 series, then its not a bad choice to go to 5000 series if you want it, unless otherwise then maybe wait if you have the time to see the performance of 6000? series
@stale26653 жыл бұрын
Depends on a lot. Do you have a lot of money? DDR5 chips that are actually significantly better than DDR4 are likely going to cost a lot more. The budget DDR5 options might not be noticeably faster than current mid-tier DDR4. Do you already have a motherboard and RAM that supports Ryzen 5k? The upgrade is going to be a lot cheaper than the all-new system you'd have to buy if you wanted a 6k series. Are you fine with not having PCIe4? If so, decent motherboards can be found very cheap.

I mean yes. Zen 3 looks very impressive as advertised by the leaks. The 5950x is looking _extremely_ appealing. If you want DDR5 and pcie5 you'll be waiting another year and a half at least like I currently am and when those are launched they are going to cost somewhere around double what exists right now. If you have something that is good enough for you and doesn't constantly frustrate you, you do what I did and literally skip ddr4.

I'd at least wait for rdna2 reviews before potentially overpaying for a 3080. The 10900K will be very fast still, but it will chug power like a pig compared to an equally fast or even faster 5800x. I'd personally go for the zen3 build and decide on gpu later, or try to grab a cheap used 2080s. B550 boards are awesome value, and the platform is so much more flexible than z490.
