Today , thanks to ACE from ‎@RAMENTOY , I get the opportunity to take a look at a fairly early prototype of their second vehicle to be released in their Makina Labs homage to 80's toyline , M.A.S.K.
This follow up to the successful Red Gullwing is a bit different as we never actually got an official version of this toy.
None other than the Makina Labs Great White and pilot, Portia. (AKA The Shark and Gloria)

HELL YEAH! I'm not the biggest M.A.S.K fan in the world, but this is *_exactly_* what I want to see more third party companies do. There are so many cool unreleased toys we never got, or characters/vehicles that should have had toys. More of this! In all sorts of toylines!

I loved the MASK vehicles. I think from the original line I managed to get Condor, Gator, Switchblade, Iguana, Phiranna, Raven and Stilletto. Could never find others such as Thunderhawk or Rhino or Jackhammer. So im thrilled that the toy line is getting a modern comeback 😊.

The 1985 cartoon was a 1985 Porsche 928, this looks like a 1988 Porsche 928 by the look of the fornt bumper. I'm still excited, I wanted this toy as a kid however it wasn't available. Clearly one of the best vehicles of the 1980's and the cartoon. I'm buying one, when it's available. 💯👍💙

An 85 may have been what they were going for, but, I think they saw into the future because it's more accurate to an 88. But, to be fair, the toon isn't exactly accurate to any 928, perfectly. The Ramen version is about as accurate you can get and still look like a real world vehicle

Pre-ordered mine last week. Shark is the vehicle I always wanted but sadly Kenner never made one. I did get Stiletto just to have Gloria but it's just not the same. Now I can finally add Shark to my collection! 🙂 Gullwing/Thunderhawk looked awesome too but I'm plenty happy with my Kenner version. But with Shark I just couldn't pass up the opportunity. Can't wait to receive the notification that they are ready to ship out.

5 Seconds in and i'm SOLD!!! looks awesome. TAKE MY MONEY RAMEN!!! I was super thrilled with their last release! with this and their Apache Commander have been great ways to get figures we wanted but never had the opportunity to own.

I imagine how well they sell. There really isnt that many of them if the do only the early main vehicles. It would be just Gator, Firecracker, Condor and Rhino and 4 Venom vehicles

Personally I would love it if they made a T-Bob (plus Scott) figure that transforms like in the tv-series. The one Kenner made was just horrible imo. I've seen people make 3D-printed versions with a wheel that could slide out and everything so it should be possible. At least I sent Ramen Toys an email with the video that had the animated 3D print in it. I hope they'd be interested in making one as I would love to add a more screen accurate T-Bob to my collection. 🙂

I'm definitely convinced! The Great White looks awesome and I aim to preorder one (as soon as I have the money). I had the original Thunderhawk, but the spoiler didn't go down properly, so I'll probably preorder the Gullwing. I also had the Volcano, the Condor, the Gator, the Piranha, the Hurricane, the Jackhammer, the Iguana, the Bullet, the Fireforce, the Barracuda and the Scott and T-Bob 2-pack, amongst other things

It seems some people were able to fix the bumper for Thunderhawk by putting a penny in somewhere. I'll have to check mine and see if perhaps a small strip of 1mm or 2mm plastic might allow the bumper to go all the way down. 🙂

A friend of mine, his dad was a big model railroad guy, and for Christmas one year, he made his kid a home-made version of Boulder Hill. Normally the idea of a home-made version of a modern toy sounds terrible, but he saw the real toy and was like, "Oh hell no." His version was amazing. It was all made from really thick styrene, so you could actually play with it. It was modular. The interior of the gas station was awesome. Like the register counter converted into a command console thing. The counters flipped over and were all these targeting and readout screens. The front had clear plastic windows. The garage was big enough for Rhino to fit through the door. The boulder and the hill looked like rock/ The inside of the hill was a three level command center. The thing was huge, hence, being modular. We all loved that thing. We also all recognized that if the real toy had been like that, it would have been as unattainable as the USS Flagg.

The Shark was the vehicle I always wanted the most. I looked for it every time I was in the stores. But the bastards never made it. Now I just don't care anymore. I don't have any of my M.A.S.K. toys anymore & this is way too expensive. If I saw this in Walmart or Target for less than $50 I'd pick it up just for the hell of it. But I'm not paying $150 for it. I'd rather put that $150 towards the Transformers Nemesis.

You didn't really mention it, but by the looks of it, the mask and head will be two separate parts; because of Gloria's haircut and her helmet shape, I would be surprised if Ramen Toy made the helmet removable. It's a bit of a let down to me because I believe the removable masks were one of the coolest features of the original toys. I will preorder it nevertheless and am curious to see how Ramen Toys finally handle irt.

Yeah, I've seen the same thing with certain helmeted figures from the recent Vintage Star Wars collection too. There they also had a separate helmet-head and their actual head which you need to swap out. Guess it makes sense considering the small size and the shape of the helmet. Gloria's helmet in particular had a very narrow neck. Guess I'll need to make a small storage box for small loose items and place it inside my Boulder Hill playset somewhere so I don't lose them. 🙂

Looks promising. The only thing I regret about this prototype is that the design of the Porsche 928 currently is a mix and mash of the original first series of the late seventies, early eighties Porsche 928, as the Shark should be, and the much later nineties 928 S4 version. Nose, rear end, rear lights, side trim and rearview mirrors should be changed into the original early 928 design. Hopefully this will be updated to the correct spec.

Probably not...as it's not necessarily trying to be overly Porsche accurate. It's meant to be as close to the toon with enough Porcshe aspects to make sense. If you're looking for Porsche accuracy, you may want to buy a model.

@@KatosKollection As a MASK fan and Porsche Fan I can say with certainty that the Great White is a Porsche 928. Ramen is very good at accurately recreating a MASK model, the Red Gullwing proves this. Whether you take an early or late model Porsche 928 for the Shark, that I leave entirely up to Ramen, but choose one of the 2. Mixing 2 different models shows to me that perhaps a little more research could have been done. Just my feeling. But nevertheless, this will be a nice collector's item.

I'm a massive Mask fan just can't justify the price tag especially when the vehicles awesome as they are are same as original but just slight tweaks, love the new figs articulation but originally were just under £30 these over £100 too expensive

$30 in 1985 is around $90 now. Combine that with Ramen being a small company and what it takes to actually get this thing made and the small run count... price (especially the early bird) is extremely fair.
