Checklists help with everything, especially when you're working hard and caught up in the action. I would appreciate it if you would talk about your total investment in all the significant tools you're using (tractor, hydraulic tamper, cement mixer, other equipment?, etc) Also curious if these walls are specifically "engineered" by a 3rd party company/architect (in terms of rebar placement, material mixture, etc), or if they are mostly an improvised design based on your initial testing? At some point, does an engineer tell you with some degree of certainty what kind of load the walls will be able to support in terms of ceiling joists? Will this be a single story or a two story house?
@RedEarthRanch4 жыл бұрын
Hey @2K I can send you the total investment info if you shoot us an email at info@redearthranch.com. Given how much equipment we have I don't really want to share specific numbers on the open interwebs. We worked with SIREWALL USA to get a good mix design and our walls were tested to hold up to just under 4000 psi when fully cured. We are planning on doing a basement with 2 stories above ground, so 3 story total. Thanks for watching!

Have you thought of getting a needler gun to do little chipping tasks?

Good idea, I might have to use that as an excuse to get some more tools LOL

Where are you guys located? I’m interested in doing rammed earth in Missouri.
@RedEarthRanch4 жыл бұрын
We are in East Texas. This stuff would work great in Missouri

You guys would avoid many in-process problems if you spent time drilling down your project management with a project management software. Two days of in-depth detailed project planning will save you days and dollars.

Very true! The reality is that I'm just being prideful thinking that I can keep it all in my head but as the complexity of the project increases I'm realizing that you are right and I need to find a solution. Any suggestions for good software?

Why bother with a sire wall. No need for insulation and it defeats the thermal drive through? IMO.
@RedEarthRanch3 жыл бұрын
The insulation creates the thermal barrier. Otherwise you have the same problem that Medieval castles had, it would be cold and drafty which is why they had large tapestries hung on the wall, those effectively served the same purpose as the insulation. Hope that makes sense
@andysmith50123 жыл бұрын
@@RedEarthRanch Yea, I know what insulation does. This may be true for wet, rainy, and humid climates where medieval castles are but is not for dry climates.
@RedEarthRanch3 жыл бұрын
@@andysmith5012 Not trying to condescend at all sorry if I offended. We live in East Texas where it is rainy and humid 90% of the year so for our project it makes sense. Drier climates may not need it but I'm not an expert by any stretch. Thanks for watching

@@RedEarthRanch no offense at all. That area makes sense.
