Hi, I'm from Germany. Rammstein is playing a classic "Industrial Metal" style. A 50-50 mix of synthesizers and hard metal guitars. A big part of the German history in one video. The black woman as Germania. Germania is the personification of the German nation. It isn't and wasn't a goddess or Joan of Arc. The glass coffin: It is Little Snow White from the Grimm-fairytales....and from their own video "Sonne". Only with black skin and in space. The piano song at the end is the song "Sonne", too. The line in this song "So jung und doch so alt" (So young and yet so old) means: Germany as a unified state is very young. A unified German nation is only existing from 1871 onwards. Before that year of unification Germany was made of countless, little mini-states and the people identified first and foremost as Prussians, Hessians, Saxons etc, etc, etc. and only in a second line of thought they had a lose sense of being somehow Germans, too, as a kind of unifying second identity. So the area & the landscape where the Germans are living and the Germans themselves as a people...are thousands of years old. But only recently, in 1871, there was a unified Germany as one single state. So Germany as a unified state is very young...and at the same time it is thousands of years old. The battle of the Teutoburg forest against the Romans (and Rammstein as Roman soldiers and Germans alike). That battle is of ABSOLUTE importance for the German history. The hanged bodies in the trees were the beaten Roman soldiers, who were gruesome sacrificed to the Germanic gods...and were partly nailed to the trees. The Varus-(Teutoburg)-Battle was already in 9 AD. In 16 AD were the vengeance campaigns of Emperor Germanicus. Therefore we see here the arrival of the Roman troops of Germanicus and they are watching their dead comrades hanging in the trees or getting their heads chopped off (for nailing them to the trees). In reality the Romans under Germanicus found only the bones of the Varus army in the various ways they were slaughtered, sacrificed and displayed at the trees. Slaves were liberated even decades after the battle. After the scenes with the Romans we saw the Hindenburg Zeppelin disaster (the burning Zeppelin in the background). The moustaches and clothing from the fight scene are from WWI and post WWI years. From the working class people in WWI and the roaring 20's. In the WWII years later on this kind of big bushy moustache was already out of fashion. The falling banknotes in the prison are not about corruption. That scene is about the hyper-inflation of the 1920's, that took away the savings of the Germans and left them in deep poverty and desperation. One had to pay a loaf of bread with a handcart full of nearly worthless banknotes back then and it hit the German people deep down inside and in their souls. Especially the poor ones and the simple workers. The V2 rocket (first manmade object in space) as technical triumph of the German spirit...and at the same time the killing of the concentration camp prisoners in the bunker factories below the mountains during the production of that rocket. This scene in the video could be a representation of a very specific concentration camp. It was "Mittelbau-Dora" below the Kohnstein mountain. A mixture between a big, huge bunker factory for V1 and V2 rockets and a concentration camp. The concentration camp inmates had several different markings for different kinds of convicts and their "crimes" sown to their chests, like it was in reality, too. A pink triangle for homosexuals, the star of David for Jews and two of them were marked with the double-triangles for Jehovas Whitnesses. The book burnings of the Nazis and the burning of the witches of the church. In the same scene with the book burning there is EVEN MORE going on. The cooperation of the church with the Nazis, when the priest with the cross embraces the Nazi SA-man. The scene with the sign with the Hammer and a pair of compasses in a circle of wheat is the sign of the GDR (DDR). The socialst German state in the east that existed before the German reunification. Therefore it was Karl Marx in the background in the scene with the tank (not the scene at the concentration camp). The scene with Rammstein wielding guns (the pumpgun) and taking Germania hostage was about leftwing terrorism of the 1970's. The terrorists were called the RAF (Rote Armee Fraktion). My interpretation of the red scanner-like beams: There are two different kinds of beams. The massive straight red light beam that goes up into the heavens AND there were those smaller, thinner "scanner" beams. Aliens (or humans from the future) are scanning the whole German history. Like some real scientists are scanning and excarvating ancient Mexican or Egyptian statues, for example. The massive red light beam is the red ribbon of time that ties together all the historical events. PS: As for the dogs: Germans are fanatical dog lovers. We are a dog-owner nation. The dog is a firm part of Germany. PPS: They didn't eat the body of the woman and her inner organs, even if it really looked that way. They were eating the national dish of Germany, that was put on the body of the black woman: Sauerkraut, Kassler & sausages. In my opinion it symbolizes the church eating itself fat on the goods and values and food of Germany during the simple people (farmers, simple workers etc) lived a long time in a kind of hell of poverty and serfdom (the red fetish area below the table with Germania on it). But that eating scene could indeed have a double meaning. It could represent the 30 years war, that was fought for religious reasons and depopulated large areas of Germany. It forced the people to commit canibalism because nobody was there anymore to produce food. Except the fat, wealthy people of the church, of course. They were still able to eat enough. Only the simple people at the bottom (farmers etc) died from hunger and had to fight and die in that war. The 30 years war was the biggest catastrophe in Germany until WWI happened. PPPS: The short scene with the dogs and their gas masks = WWI, where in reality animals (messenger dogs & horses) AND soldiers were wearing gas masks, too. PPPPS: The puppies at the end are Leonberger dogs. The Leonbergers nearly went extinct during WWI and WWII. PPPPPS: The black woman in the prison was dressed in a Prussian uniform with a Prussian helmet. Till sings the famous, often misinterpreted, line of the "Deutschlandlied" (Song of the Germans), that is not forbidden in Germany but simply isn't sung anymore in our modern national anthem. Till sings in his version the line "Deutschland über allen" (Germany above everybody) What is a BIG change to the real line in the orginal Deutschlandlied-song. In the original Deutschlandlied song it is written as "Deutschland über alles" (Germany above everything). The real, whole line of that old Deutschlandlied goes "Deutschland, Deutschland über alles. Über alles in der Welt" (Germany, Germany above everything. Above everything in the world). This line is often misinterpreted by many people as chauvinism and as a looking down upon all other countries on this planet. But that is wrong and not many people know about that in Germany and elsewhere. The writer of that famous line didn't meant it in a chauvinistic way. When that song was written, Germany was divided into umphteeth mini-states, what made Germany relative powerless and defenseless. Therefore the task of German unification was the goal above any other goal for all Germans (at least the writer of the song meant it that way). So the main goal for all Germans had to be the united Germany. The goal of "(united) Germany above everything else". That was, how that line was meant by the writer of the song. The line isn't forbidden, like many people wrongly think. It's simply not sung anymore and not part of the official anthem of modern Germany anymore. This has NOT its reason in the seemingly chauvinist meaning of "Deutschland über alles", like many people wrongly think. This whole stanza of the Deutschlandlied isn't sung anymore, because in other parts of the stanza are borders and landscapes mentioned, that aren't German borders and landscapes anymore. We want to live in peace with the people and countries, who are now living in those former German lands and therefore we don't sing about those old borders and landscapes anymore. It has nothing to do with the "Deutschland über alles" line in that stanza, like many people wrongly are thinking. Finally: The scenes I'm now talking about are pretty dark and low light. The WWII submarine in the submarine bunker during the astronauts are walking by with the glass coffin. I think, the choice of the black woman as main actress was made, because: a) it makes any accusations of racism and fascism against Rammstein useless b) she represents one colour of the German flag and she is wearing the rest of the colours of our German flag as makeup and jewellery and clothes on her body: Black, Red and Gold c) it provokes many people EVEN MORE 😄 Greetings

That first (sometimes shocking) layer is almost always a metaphor for a deeper message or criticism of bizar things happening in real life or society. There's an honesty about the song and the video, a brutal honesty that I thoroughly admire. Rammstein knew that they'd face heavy criticism across the board for both but they still put both out and said "Do your worst.". No country in the world can hold its head up high and claim that its history is spotlessly clean, all carry some shame but it doesn't do to acknowledge it as far as they're concerned. I'm from the UK, Wales in fact and there was a time when we were forbidden from speaking our own language. Thankfully, those days are largely over, but they're not recognised by many and neither is a lot of crap that was visited upon us. Germany has its shameful past but a past is what it is and as long as it's recognised and learned from, then that can only be for the good. Not all Germans grew up with the ideology that people think they did. I grew up around people of all nationalities and still live amongst a multi-national population and I'm always told the same thing-they weren't all the same and I have no reason to doubt that. This is probably THE best music video ever produced, the song is sad in its honesty and brutality. National pride is no bad thing as long as that pride isn't distorted by the illusion of perfection.

My grandparents and parents had to live through the atrocities of WW2, but yet, I had to pay the bill by being called the most insulting names while living stateside. - My parents always took care of US GIs, feeding them, helping out, when the money had been gone on the day after payday , I was raised in the sense, that all people were equal, no matter what color or ethnicity they were. NEVER in my life would I have thought, that there was still so much hate and ignorance going around. -- Thank you for putting some light into the darkness.☮

Rammstein pretty accuratly described the german Soul with their Words "Deutschland, your love is a curse and a blessing. Deutschland, my love, I can't give you". I know there is no blood on my hands, but let me explain. We learn pretty early on, what parts of our Grandparents or Greatgrandparents generation did or what they at least enabeled. In World History we learn it over and over, from every aspect. In social studies we learn how the human mind was able to create such perversions and in german language we learn how the propaganda worked on the masses and how to surpass those techniques. And after understanding this, many of us chose the duty to never forget the pain that was created there. We do not blindly 'love' a place anymore, a country, a construct beginning by the germanic tribes, that saw horror of any kind across the centuries, because this leads to a false sense of pride. What person that says that his country is the greatest in the World, is not thinking(maybe just in the back of their mind), that other countrys are not worth the same ? What Symbol of nationality, just some cloth with some colours is realy worth a human soul ? No many of us do not love their country, but we love the People in it, symbolised by the black Woman in Rammsteins Song, because f*** all the racists, anyone who grew up here and sees this place as their home is german. She represents Germania, the 'Soul' of Germany, a Symbol since medival times and because of this she chances with these terrible times and represents all this turmoil through the ages. Sorry for my long rambeling rant, but my conclusion is, that we might all need to look back to our history and stop blindly idolising places and start taking care and loving ALL the People who are living in this places. The past is dark, darker when you look closer and closer, but we need to withstand this burden, or at least helping clearing the wreckage from this past towards a hopeful future. Love each other.

Thank you for this commentary from me in Hamburg, Germany. That song, in my (subjective) eyes is a modern look into how most Germans think about their country. Patriotism is difficult because of this unspeakable times, even if knowing that before these dark times that brew from poorness and desperation, Germany was a very open minded country. It is now more open minded than ever before, even if imarrow-minded diots live here like everywhere (including USA). You are absolutely correct when stating that we shall not let ourselves get divided. It even happens with Rammstein, one of the most controversial bands since they don't know any boundaries and censorship. I personally love that, others can't bear that. Even say that they are right wing which is outright ridiculous. My grandpa (god bless him) was forced to enter the German army as a horse courier. He was a baker, which finally, in so many years of Russion imprisonment, saved his life. He never told me the whole story. People have to build psychological walls around them to survive. Of course I will never know the whole story but I know that he was among the finest and most heartful people I ever knew. And I won't tell more as it would break my heart as well. In short, I would like to thank you for your contribution to openness and honesty with your channel. It is a bright light in the dark and clickbait times that we all see. Bless you, bro. Nationality doesn't matter. Let's spread the love and ignore the hatred.

But still, we went on vacation to Germany, in a German made car. My parents taught me that their history is not my history. You cannot say that today's Germans are in any way responsible for what happened in WW1 and WW2. So, I don't feel any grudge to present day Germans. In the eyes of this Dutchman, they are kind of weird but interesting people. Speaking of Dutch, we had our fair share of violence in the 17th, 19th and 20th century as well in "our" colonies. I don't want to be seen as responsible for that either. No way.

About the dogs has 4 interpretations, that the Germans have always loved dogs, they created the German shepherd, the breed of the video are dogs of the royalty that was almost extinct and that current couples prefer to have dogs than children and finally that breed of dog is docile which is what Germany became now, and about the girl at the end of the video is that Germany is sleeping and will wake up again at another time that is why the space is going to wait and the last thing is that at the end of the video the eagle became a white parrot that is why the irony, also the part of the monks eating on the girl is that at that time there was a religious war and while upstairs the armies fight for them downstairs they ate like kings and the people were starving so the people under the table like dogs and the video tries to tell several parts of German history in time and the other irony is that while they were making rockets , and about the communist germany of erich honecker, while the people had a bad time they ate and had parties (orgies), greetings from Chile where we hosted erich honecker the last president of the rda in Chile 1994 and paul schaefer a nazi who was a pedophile and torturer. he created in chile with the dictatorship of Pinochet colonia dignidad a pedophile enclave and torture center.

My grandparents were really angry with Germans. They experienced the war and have reasons to be angry. Nowadays, I no longer associate a German person with the war at all. That is distant and closed off.

If anyone is offended by that video, than this person doesn't understand history nor art. Even people who are alive can't be offended by that video as it only shows what was and not what anyone wanted it to be and if you can't talk about reality, you should not talk at all🤔 There are people alive they still suffer from apartheid, but in many of those countries where they from, they don't talk about and they still have big problems with it, you as a American should know what I mean As i said before, if someone wants to talk to me about German history, i will talk as far as my knowledge gets me and if you want to talk about bad history like WW2 or WW1, myself and probably a lot of Germans like talking about, because it's important to understand how it came to those escalations and we don't feel guilty, as we wasn't there, but we feel responsible to make aware how things happen I live seems 11 years in New Zealand and i had the honor to meet so many different nationalities and most often the conversation, of course 🤣😭, comes to WW2 and I'm honestly shocked, how weak educated most people are, when it comes to the knowledge about what happened in Germany after WW1 and before WW2. That's why many Germans where pretty confused when we looked to America the last 6 years But i totally agree with you, that in the end of the day, most people just want to live a life in Peace, but that doesn't compare with modern capitalism 😜🤔

I am not proud of being German, I can never be proud of something I cannot change and did nothing for. Heritage is no achievement. I am however grateful, to live in country that is free, mostly peaceful, and save, I am also grateful, that the nazi regime was defeated, and that we do not have to live under their rule. However, I am proud of my great grandfather, who hid a political enemy of the nazis in his home (was a "crime" punishable by death back then, he and his family).

You are right, war sucks on all fronts, yugoslavia got screwed over by russia, since russia did not want a war with germany, they still told yugoslavia if we fought they would support us, all that did was piss of the germans who blitz creed bombed us into submission. So totally agree, which by the way is one of the other reason why it split in 1990 as a result also taking my fathers life. I was told however that a german commander let my dads parents live and they named him after that german commander. So it is crazy how life works.

Rammstein s called a right wing group. But they are more left wing. There message is: Be carefull what choises you make before you know it, you are living in the wrong kind of countrey. As a Dutchy, IN GENERAL, I like Germans beter then the Dutch. And I live only a ten minute drive from the German border.

I learned through my history teacher, that national pride is not bad - but kinda doesn't make sense. What even IS a nation? An area of people sharing language? No, Austrians speak german as well, diferent nation. Same culture? No, Not rly, a lot of the arabic states have basically the same culture. It is something we made up to build a sense of unity, because somehow our brains need it. I'm not proud to be german. But i'm also not "unproud". I'm a human. I live on Earth, in a region called Germany. It exists, and i'm thankful for the legal system providing me with a sense of stability. But i could have that stability in many other diferwnt nations. I like being in germany. I'm not proud of it tho

“The cheapest sort of pride is national pride; for if a man is proud of his own nation, it argues that he has no qualities of his own of which he can be proud; otherwise he would not have recourse to those which he shares with so many millions of his fellowmen. The man who is endowed with important personal qualities will be only too ready to see clearly in what respects his own nation falls short, since their failings will be constantly before his eyes. But every miserable fool who has nothing at all of which he can be proud adopts, as a last resource, pride in the nation to which he belongs; he is ready and glad to defend all its faults and follies tooth and nail, thus reimbursing himself for his own inferiority.” ― Arthur Schopenhauer
@HighlyCombustibleReacts2 жыл бұрын
No offense to you, but Schopenhauer sounds like a moron. I have plenty of things in my life that I'm proud of, and I'm still proud of my country. There is a HUGE difference between Blind National Pride and being proud of the things one has done for their country and their country for them. I served in the military and yet, I still have many things in my life to be prideful about as far as personal achievements and accomplishments go. If you don't have some kind of love for your country, you don't deserve the benefits that the country has to offer you in my mind. It is a love hate, give and take relationship. Every country has done horrendous things throughout history...that doesn't mean they haven't also done awesome things. Pride in belonging to a country is about more than the politics and laws of said country...it's about the things that you put in, i.e. building a house, helping your countrymen and women who are less fortunate than you, building loving communities and neighborhoods where it is safe to raise your kids. Schopenhauer sounds like one of those "glass is half empty" type of philosophers. He probably died a cranky old man who never really LIVED.
@Lillithowl2 жыл бұрын
@@HighlyCombustibleReacts Ok wait for it.... You're both right! Schopenhauer was most definitely not a moron and admit it, as an American (as am I) we both know the people he describes. But you are also right, you CAN love your country but still be intelligent enough, and adult enough to admit it's faults and shortcomings.

just a copy paste comment..... here is my own not copy paste opinion..... so what if a man (like me) was born in The Netherlands, then moved to Germany...... and who is pride of its Dutch Heritage AND proud of the fact that he is living in Germany now ???
@Iflie2 жыл бұрын
You see it in the KKK, neo nazi's, they find guys with nothing going for them and then tell them they are better than others because they are white. Some people feel that way because of the country they are in, like being american. If you believe the propaganda that makes them superior and those are the bad tourists that go to other countries and snip thing fingers at waiters and expect them to speak english. I find Rammstein is talking about it in a nuanced way, he's not saying Germany is all bad, he's saying he can't "love" it, it's an emotion that doesn't allow for the reality, it's a melancholic thing to say not a statement of hate. He feels sad for his country. And some of the imaging was about modern things like throwing molotov cocktails at police and the greed of the rich.

Ramstein is the best and Ramstein is symbolic. If you don´t understand that, you don´t see it is a love song for Deutchland. The dark women is symobolic the new Deutchland and he kisses her without a head. He sings he can´ t ive withouth Deutchland. What is the the problem with the hate reactions? Ramstein have critical songs of America and this man let only show his reaction. Maybe the people that react below are not grown up yet. Give me your age. Be self-critical is a good thing. Putin, Hitler and Trump don´t have that. Be proud it is your history Deutchland. We love you. There are countries that have bigger problems. Every country have a history.

Too bad the subtitles can't translate everything or aren't completely accurate, and some words or sentences have a double meaning, as an example "Du hast" can mean : You hate or you have, "Germany over everything" is the German national anthem.
