Yes, I think many Germans are on the road at the moment to explain something. But, something is clear, it's a great song.
@demidevil6664 жыл бұрын
Native German here. The song is sung from the point of view of a clone. The protagonist (presumably still very young, maybe around 10 years old) mourns the fact they had never experienced motherly love, having been created in a lab rather than being born naturally. They also resent the other children (and people in general) because of this fundamental difference in upbringing. It is later explained the protagonist has a birthmark (see, BIRTH mark... A clever play on words, since even in English the term references birth - the fundamental dichotomy of the story being that the protagonist was never attached to an umbilical chord; In German it's "Muttermal", lit. "mother's mark") on their forehead, which they then go on to remove with a knife, eventually dying from the blood loss due to this self inflicted wound.

This song is basically about having a bad or non-existent relationship with your mother, but in the end still not wanting to live without her. The song gives of that vibe perfectly about longing for a mother figure in your life. I think it was also written based on real-life experiences by the lead singer and lead guitar.
@masestero4 жыл бұрын
the way i see it, it could also be related to mental health and that you feel safe for it but getting out of your comfort zone is very hard. In any ways the meaning is the same in my eyes since i struggle from both versions

The first lines are propably not autobiographic.. The text is heavy
@robertcraane79104 жыл бұрын
I know the feeling... my parents are rasccists and dont accept my black wife... I still love them, but I hate them too... I cant accept their humiliation of my wife because she is bad, because of her color... I'm now 52, and I am so happy with her... she is the light of my life... I was alone for 25 years and she just brings joy to my life... and her kids are a preasent I never expected to have in my life... I love them all... Why cant they accept her, for the sweet person she is? Why hate her for the color of her skin?
@annegretkasten6277 Жыл бұрын
The text is not autobiographical, because Lindemann has a very close relationship with his mother. He also posts pictures on Instagram. His mother was a journalist and once wrote something about it. She was at concerts and on vacation. Rapport. 😍🙋

Love everything they do, and I tend to put it all into perspective by remembering where they grew up and the atmosphere in East Germany during that time. They've brought that fear and pain and wonder and love of life and hope for the future into everything they do.
@greenknitter4 жыл бұрын
Fear and pain... they always speak positively about the DDR though, especially Flake. He says he enjoyed his life there then and misses it. Life for most people had its problems and struggles of course, but so does life anywhere. It's important to remember that many had worthwhile and meaningful lives there. My guy was born there and he had a happy childhood and teen years in the East. Some people hated it and wanted to leave, others either accepted it or liked it.

Wow, that was a thought I'd also had on it, (especially after knowing a few people from Germany and seeing their outlook on patriotism in general, and how it's just NOT encouraged over there) but I'd never really looked into it to see if the band themselves had ever said anything about it one way or another.

@Thora Friganza How did you guess my family keeps me away from her funeral? I was in contact with lawyers all day yesterday but with no avail... But still, I loved her and I will make my way thru this alone. I'm not the bad guy, she was not a bad person, I loved her till death... litterly.... I don't like symbolism, I'm not religious, and my mom and I talked a lot about death, so I know she's at piece now.... It doesn't help against the pain and grieve I feel right now, because it hurts so much that we did not get a chance to talk it over.... But hey, life goes on, I got a wife to worry about too, and 4 children that are without income on the Phillippines so my mind is primarily with them right now. My mother will be forever in my heart, like she always was. May we both be forgiven for our mistakes and misunderstandings......
