It's always amazing to think, in this crowd there are people who have never listened to or heard of this band before. They got dragged by some friend who had an extra ticket or asked out on a date and pretended to know who the band was and this is the first time they're hearing this music. This video from this exact performance included. Whether they loved it or hated it, they're never going to forget *this*.

Everybody gives credit to Till for the way he sings this song and in the matter his voice change brings out the darkness of this song, but I think we have to also credit Paul & Richard's guitar work for making this song for what it is, their guitar work here is absolutely mind blowing. They set the tone for the song right from the start. Even if you don't know the lyrics and without Till singing, you know this song is really dark and disturbing by just listening to the guitarwork. I must say, there are very few bands that are able to master the art of putting a song together where the music and the lyrics compliment each other so perfectly, sometimes the true power of a song gets lost in the lyrics or the music. Although this song is so dark and disturbing, Puppe is definitely under my top 5 Rammstein songs. I'm really a huge fan of Rammstein because they really don't give a f@ck to write about taboos and disturbing stuff and to portray them as such. We are not living in a perfect world, and Rammstein does not try to sell that BS to us.

I don’t speak a whit of German and I was left transfixed after this song. It fucked me up for a solid four songs until Till slapped himself on the ass in the middle of a song and broke that tension in me. Needless to say I've been listening to it like 5 times a day since. Such an incredible experience, and the song itself is pitch black which I love, even though the meaning behind the lyrics is truly disturbing.

Listening to Rammstein for almost 20 years. Love all of their albums and songs as well!!! This is probably the most disturbing song they ever recorded. I mean the Till's screaming combined with those powerful guitars leaves you really disturbed after the song. Also on this live show the atmosphere is much more powerful. But possibly even more disturbing is Halloman. That's really scary and nasty song. Before this album came out I think one of the most disturbing/scary songs were - Wiener Blut, Mutter, Rammstein, Tier and Laichzeit and possibly even a Spiel mit Mir or Kokain. Those are some really powerful songs!!!

@@jonarmedpiandsecurityoffic9051 I think it's based on a poem written from a child's perspective, telling the story of how sick he/she is, how his/her sister sells herself as a prostitute for money, and how it wrecks his/her psyche, as he/she bites the doll's head and neck off, killing the innocence part in him/her. I've always thought of the main character as a boy, but maybe she's a girl, which makes it even more messed up on a whole new level, because then the story becomes sister listening to sister getting raped essentially. Rammstein is masterful when it comes to pain & suffering, as they incorporate heavy industrial metal, organic sounds (distorted screams, laughs, or cries) to boost its realism.

Till's feeling for rythm is insane. There are so many examples of this, how he falls in with his vocals, always on time, it's fucking perfect. But pertaining to this clip, just look at the way he and Paul move from 2:42 'til 2:52. Till doesn't listen to or move by the defining beat, but is a bit ahead. He is listening and moving to the hi-hat rather than the bass. That is actually fucking difficult to do when trying to perform. It's insane how this band performs without fault (ok, they make some mistakes, but I bet I bet the few who detect those are experienced players of musical instruments), their level of dedication is, again, insane! They know their songs so well, and don't slack at all! Till's sense of rythm is insane, they all know their music so well. In my opinion, it is the best live act one could experience in this day and age. Just as much as I would implore people to go and see/experience an aurora borealis, or the largest marine animal ever to have existed, anyone should see Rammstein!
@CJsGoProAdventures

Till's sense of rhythm also likely comes from the fact that he is/was a drummer. It makes moving like that much easier. I haven't physically played in 6-7 years, but I "play" every song in my head that I listen to. I think performing in rhythm with whatever beat you want to (whether it be hi hat, snare, or bass) is a lot easier once you know the instrument and do it for a career. I do agree; he has an excellent sense for rhythm. He might be one of the few that basically have a metronome in his head. Or he's just done it that many times that it's muscle memory.
@music4meh
@music4meh Жыл бұрын
@@CJsGoProAdventures Oh shit you're so right Thanks a lot for sharing that, awesome read What's the difference between having a metronome in your head and muscle memory? For me, music is entirely physical, thoughts with linguistic/propositional content have little to do with it. That muscle memory is your metronome your body is playing to. That's how I experience it, I'd be delighted to hear what you think about it:)
@CJsGoProAdventures
@CJsGoProAdventures Жыл бұрын
@@music4meh I may have misspoke trying to say what I want. He likely doesn’t physically hear a metronome in his head, but is just very good with timing if that makes sense? Like you will hear a song, and keep in time with tapping your foot. I tap my hand to keep in time with the hi-hat for example, or I’ll switch to just following the bass with my foot. Your idea of muscle memory is pretty cool. Do you play an instrument? For musicians, muscle memory happens when you have played a particular piece of music so much, that your body just ends up playing it automatically. It’s as if the music makes a well worn path and your body just falls into it naturally. I’ve had it happen a few times where I am playing a piece, my brain forgets or hesitates, but my arms and legs (I used to play drums as well) follow through with it. It’s a super weird feeling but also incredibly cool when it happens. I think that is why career musicians do not make mistakes so often, and if they do, they are very good at playing through it so no one notices.

@@CJsGoProAdventures I think, and I may be wrong, you're saying that this sort of ''knowledge'' is very physical. You feel it. You're born with it, you develop it by indulging in it. Exercise, practice; doing. Let's assume you're a drummer (I regret to inform you that this moment in writing my sentence was when I decided to read your comment thoroughly, and I see that you wrote you are), imagine trying to teach someone how to play an instrument, drums for instance. Are you going to explain it to them through means we are using here, words, or are you putting them behind a set and making them do it? Cycling and car-driving are other great examples. That is embodied knowledge, ability. Fuelled with passion and a bit of dedication, it is endless and beautiful. I think intelligence is misunderstood, because we confuse it with ability, yet conflate it with an ability to to understand, interpret, and explain complex issues. For instance, someone is ''intelligent'' in school - at any level, from primary to university - when they write and understand elegant and eloquent sentences. But to me, that isn't exactly the case. While I appreciate this sentence hopefully attributed to the man who said it, Einstein (I'm not sure if he said it, but I believe it's quite true but not the entire truth), I paraphrase; ''If you understand something, you can explain it.'', I don't entirely agree. I could never explain what I do on a guitar or bass, yet I'm quite good at it. I can't explain what I do on a bike, but I'm Dutch so riding a bike is as natural to me as walking, talking, breathing. I don't know every or the very definition of any word I employ in my sentences, yet people understand me, and I understand them... We can even have conversations that make my day, minute, week, year. It's that this knowledge is in my body, but not entirely in the certain areas of my brain that allow me to explain or instruct someone to replicate it. Knowledge is embodied in my opinion, and the brain is but an important part of the nervous system which is but a part, an important part, of the body. Sorry for the long response, I hope it was worth the read

@@music4meh I think I understand what you mean. I don’t think a sense of rhythm is something that can be taught. For instance, I can’t tell someone what a sense of rhythm is, and I can’t teach it. You either know it, or you don’t. If I were to teach someone how to play drums I would only be able to show them and hope they can replicate it. I cannot explain it. As another example, I cannot get my head around how guitars work, or how guitar players can play. It does not make sense to me. But to you it would make perfect sense. You still cannot explain to me how to play it. I agree that you can be intelligent in different ways. For instance, Till (and a lot of other songwriters) have an amazing talent with words. I could never put into words how I feel about things sometimes, let alone write a song with lyrics that flow as nicely as he can. Or his poetry. I think if I were to ask him to explain to me or teach me how to write a song, he wouldn’t be able to get past telling me just to write the verse and chorus etc. Someone may be lacking in school, but they are brilliant wood carvers, or can lay a slab of concrete perfectly without measuring, or they have an eye for landscaping. I agree with you a lot. It makes perfect sense. It’s been wonderful chatting like this with an internet stranger. Thanks so much!

Oh. My. God. Never listend to Rammstein. Never. My daughter however is a fan. And she got a birthday present from us: 2 concert tickets for Rammstein Stadium Tour in Groningen. As a parent, I have to go with her, because she's not 16 yet. So I thought, I have to get to know the music of Rammstein better. I heard some of their tracks, like Deutschland and thought that one was good. But now I know more and more tracks I slowly am becoming a fan of Rammstein myself. I still think they're a bit of a hit and miss, but despite of that I gained a huge amount of respect for them. When I heard Puppe for the first time yesterday that respect has exploded. What. A. Track. This one is immediately one of my favourite tracks. Not only for Rammstein, but of all time by all artist that I listen to. And seeing this live in the video above...I'm out of words. This is só intense! So good! Wow... I certainly hope Puppe will be on their playlist on the 6th of july this year...

I love how ppl who claim to love this band can't even say their name. "this band". You at your local pub on a Wednesday night? Another "fan" said "I've always loved this INDUSTRIAL METAL band" lmao. Well, as a German, let me help you. It's Rammstein. RRHUUMSHTYYNN pronouciation as non Germans say "Raamsteen". And also, there's absolutely NOTHING humourous about this song. And I wouldn't call their stage antics and personalities humor. It's just Rammstein.
@geoffrey6000

@@JamesHeinrich-vk7vz wow there buddy, a lot of people don't know what the lyrics to this song mean and might find the whole stroller thing amusing. Also, concerning the naming of the band, a way i think would make more sense to people is to think about it this way: Have you heard of Steinway Pianos? The way you pronounce the "stein" in that is also the way you should pronounce it in Rammstein.
@JamesHeinrich-vk7vz
@JamesHeinrich-vk7vz 2 жыл бұрын
@@geoffrey6000 Thank you for the lesson. But, my background is German and I've been speaking it on some level since '14. The "st" is to be pronounced like an "sht". I'm not being rude or anything. You could be Kraut too, idk. But I know what I know. I also know ppl claim to "love this band" but know VERY LITTLE about thrm. Only band I love more is Fleetwood Mac. But after that, RAMMSTEIN, RAMMSTEIN, JEDEN TAG RAMMSTEIN.
@geoffrey6000
@geoffrey6000 2 жыл бұрын
@@JamesHeinrich-vk7vz I know the english pronunciation example for stein that i showed is still not correct, I only meant it as an easy way that people can get close to the real thing without saying "steen". Also i'm Canadian but have been speaking German all my life, it was my first language. People don't know much about the band or the meaning of the songs because Rammstein has a lot of english listeners. Most of them don't take the time to look at translations and meanings, and are just here for the music itself. That doesn't mean that they don't "love" the band, it just means that they aren't getting the complete picture.
@JamesHeinrich-vk7vz
@JamesHeinrich-vk7vz 2 жыл бұрын
@@geoffrey6000 So it's justifiable for me to "love" a woman without really understanding who she really is or what she's even saying to me for that matter? And you can't say 'oh that's different". It's the EXACT same logic. How much can you "love" something/someone without knowing what it is/who they are and not take the few moments to try to? (I.e. look it up). LOVE kind of deserves effort. I'm just saying. I'm definitely not going to argue about it because the initial comment wasn't for you and I generally don't give two f*cks about ppl who comment on other ppl's comments directed at someone else. This KZbin Superhero sh*t feeling the need to come to somebody's rescue. Jesus, if two ppl are standing near you in public and one's saying something to the other that you don't agree with, do you just f*cking chime in? Or is it just because it's online? Because I don't see the difference. Hence, why I don't COMMENT ON A F*CKING COMMENT DIRECTED AT SOMEONE ELSE because I don't agree with it. And I sure as f*ck don't chime in on ppl's convos in public. And we both know how frowned that is in Deutschland. Enjoy your evening and f*ck off.

I saw them two days ago now at US Bank Stadium and this song just left me basically shell-shocked. I’ve been to a LOT more shows than most people my age (23 next month) and this entire show just… WOW. I don’t think anything will ever top this. Just the pure sensation of this show. The absolutely titanic, universe rending mix of them in an indoor stadium, during a thunderstorm that was dropping tornadoes just outside the twin cities, with lightning HITTING the stadium because it’s the tallest thing in that part of Minneapolis… the barely audible tornado sirens during Zeich Dich, the feeling of the bass drums punching me in the chest (and I’m a drummer myself! I’ve been around a massive drum mix before and this is the best I’ve ever heard), combined with the emotion of Till in songs like Puppe, even Duo Abelard setting the tone with them opening the show with dualing piano renditions of Rammstein’s songs… this show will stay with me for the rest of my life.

this song is actually kind of redeeming in some way, eventhough it doesn't sound like it at all. the story goes that the boy with the doll lives in a room where his sister works as a prostitute next doors, but one day his sister got murdered by a man. then.. the boy says he ripped off the doll's head out of frustration. but it's not actually the doll's head he ripped off, but it was the man who killed his sister...
