I'm 63 and still one of the biggest, die hard Ramones fans of ever...My son collected band t-shirts since he was 6 years old. When he was about 13 he said to me one day ' guess what band t-shirt I'm going to get next(after rolling his eyes at me and calling them the Ramorons for ages)he said a Ramones t-shirt.' I knew then that I done brought him up right. I was so proud.

@anthonyfrancis23743 жыл бұрын
Next to impossible to play and run around like Johnny or Dee Dee you need extreme skill and stamina to play without playing upstrokes on your guitar or bass especially the ferocious speed they played live. There’s a lot of things going on mixed lower in volume especially the vocals.
@101Volts3 жыл бұрын
Their style is simple on the surface, but as Anthony just said, there's actually a bit more complexity to the guitar and bass than it seems. Over 99.9% of the time, Johnny and Dee Dee were just strumming their instruments DOWNWARD ONLY* at that speed, for an hour at a time at live shows. Go ahead if you play guitar, try playing this like that** for the length of just this song. Your arm will be sore if you don't have the right posture, and if you don't already have the muscle for it. The Ramones' Guitar and Bass style is simple in concept, but harder in execution than it seems. Oh, and Johnny's guitar model (1965 Mosrite Ventures II, earlier "Slab Body" version [a rare guitar]) helped make things a bit easier for him. 1960s Mosrites are super easy to play barre chords on, if you can get used to the necks on them which are thin for thickness and narrow for width; they're smaller than most Fenders. * I heard one rare exception to this where Johnny played an up strum, in some 1970s Live Bootleg, but I can only think of that one time when he did. **Edit 2: Johnny played _barre chords_ live, he didn't play power chords. Lots of people seem to think the Ramones played power chords, but it's just not true. I heard there was some use of power chords later on _for the albums_ when they also used overdubs, but I never listened to the later albums in their entirety, so I can't tell about that for sure. Also, if you don't do the bounce between 6 and 4 strings and back, it's missing something. Johnny often played all 6 strings, then played the bottom 4. He'd alternate between them, but still with all down strums. Like I said, it's a bit more technical than it looks. Their simplicity's not _that_ simple.
@Live2Win2303 жыл бұрын
@@101Volts I play guitar, every ramonea song I know I play downpicked only at live speed I’m not trying to take away from them but their down picking isn’t the most difficult thing ever they wrote good music but they are by no means technical musicians and that’s alright they didn’t have to be

Marky Ramone first album and seriously great drummer. He keeps it simple in The Ramones but for the really fast stuff he has an incredibly fast and flexible right hand. I don't know many drummers who could do what he does for 90 minutes. Those eighth notes are just constant. Looks easy until you are knackered after 5 minutes and like the Duracell bunny he keeps on and on and on.
