Hello mike. ive been playing guitar for about a year, and i am getting into some pretty fast riffs. ive been learning avenged sevenfolds songs lately, and they have some fast stuff. So, i cant, lets say, "shred", BUT in order for me to play it up to speed, i hammer on and pull off. Soooo, while its a hell of alot easier, it still isnt how it is exactly supposed to be played. Now i cant play it as smoothly and fast as synyster gates or you can, but its still almost there. Basically what im asking is, is hammering on and pulling off actually "shredding"? They sound pretty similar, or at least to me. Im just wondering, because i can hammer on and pull off really well, and it sure is easier than shredding. But is it considered shredding?

Dude that is so wrong... no upstrokes PERIOD Johnny did not use alternate picking. When it comes to the RAMONES get it right or don't try it also there is no slide anywhere in the song
