They do channel 90’s Divas like Whitney, Celine and Mariah especially. However their biggest influence specifically Katrina and Morissette is “Regine Velasquez” the most influential filipino singer that inspired multiple generations singers in the Philippines 🇵🇭 And this Katrina sang is even the arrangement of Regine’s version of Go The Distance

She is known in the Philippines for her big belts, complicated riffs and runs and her singing voice impersonation skills. Ypu should check her out more. She is a very lovely lady, humble and funny. Check out her Somewhere over the rainbow and her one take cover sessions. Also, most young Filipina belters have that whitney/mariah/celine vibes due to Regine Velasquez. Most young belters takes from Regine who clearly have influences from whitney/mariah/celine.

The Philippines has a very clear standard of singing if you expect to perform to the crowd. It’s really difficult to impress Filipinos with singing because there’s such an abundance of talent in the field. Many of the suggested artists you’re about to see have really separated themselves from the crowd. In addition, singing while sitting down just gives it a very relaxing atmosphere and presentation, very common in the Philippines. I don’t know how they do it but they’re just expected to have good diaphragm control so sitting isn’t an issue.

Katrina is a vocal beast. she is self taught and has become so good through her one take covers where she tries different styles and vocal arrangements. The reason older artist are favored is because Phillipines do not like auto tune. Most artist now a days use auto tune so you really don't know what they really sound like. @revivalphilippines91904 жыл бұрын
@@ramseyvoicestudio that's why when we see someone is singing we always compare her to Regine's vocal prowess, the resonance and the endurance of the voice. If she can deliver, express and is it powerful and can sustain many songs and does not experience hoarsenss of voice durinh concerts. During the vocal prime of Regine, even if she cant talk still she can able to sing a song perfectly. A skill that can not be seen to Morisette, Katrina and others. She is also good in medley from high to low, soft to diffult keys she can still hit it. Many right now claim that they are better than her but if you will listen to her now and even if she's 50, still a voice to beat.

I can somewhat enlighten you on why the specific era/genre is a favorite of theirs. It is partially a cultural thing. Singing and Karaoke is (no joke) like a sport for them in the Philippines. The technology for home/affordable Karaoke machines really blew up in the 90's. Filipino's have had a long love affair with American culture, which carried over from WWII. So when you combine the era, what was popular already in music and what they mimicked it all makes sense. Singing is also a family thing, so kids grew up listening to their parents singing these songs and voila there you have it. It is so ridiculous how many talented singers they have over there and they really understand and feel R&B as well as all other genre's. It is quite an unusual but awesome gift.

katrina can do it all. she is really the most talented young singer in the phillipines. sadly the filipinos value looks more than talent. she can do everything the other singers can do better than them but they cannot do what she can do. watch her burn impression of ellie and mariah and celine and others just amazing.

To answer your question about the influence to filipino singers: First of all, we filipinos just love to sing! And probably "love" is an understatement. Singing is just a part of our lives. We sing karaoke every weekend and some would even sing on weekdays. I remember when I was a child, after lunch whenever my mom would finish all the household chores and while my older siblings were in school, she would set up the karaoke and then sing the entire afternoon until before she picks them up from school. And need I say on weekends it's automatic that we have to sing. We also sing karaoke in every celebration whether it's a birthday, wedding, graduation, christmas, new year, etc. And because of this passion in singing, during the 80's and the 90's singing competitions were already very famous in the Philippines. In a way, it also gives hope to poor families because of the cash prize and that is a reality. Great filipino singers who influenced a lot of our young singers today also became famous through joining singing competitions. One of them is Regine Velasquez. My sister was one of the children of the 90's who would join singing competitions as a child and her inspiration was Regine Velasquez. She has influenced so many young filipina girls who are dreaming to become famous singers. Even up to this day even if she's already not in her prime years, a lot of young aspirant singers still look up to her. Even Katrina Velarde, Morisette Amon, Sarah Geronimo are all influenced by her. I can say that during Regine's prime years she was the best in the Philippines and she had an amazing career even if during this decade there were legends like Whitney, Mariah and Celine, Regine stood her ground in the Philippines.
