Great lift at the west cliff in the 60,s Mahogany , paneling, and an attendant who used to close those folding Gates. we had some fun as lads on this beach.

actually I looked up when lifts/elevators first got automatic doors and it says the first ever model to actually have them was invented in the late 1870s and it certainly was a very old system where it used machanicle switchs and even todays systems use switches and crap but not as common anymore

I love the lift at 4:07 How old is it?

+DieselDucy It is 60 years old. It may still has the original chassis from 1910. The lift was replaced in the 50s and it was modded in late 90s/early 2000s.

Remove the bar in the Drop key for Bennie lifts. Thats how I open the ones in my flat. I push it in father.

+Aaron Burtt I have got a new drop key as I lost my old one. I got the one without the gaps in the dropping bit. This new key hasn't managed to work very well. Either the bits out of the dropping part do something, or I am just having bad luck. I am finding that the fireman door entry into flats often seems to be broken.

Fireman door entry things are always broken. You just need to give it a good try for 2 minutes, sometimes you get lucky. To be honest drop key was a fail, but I love the simplicity of it. You want to remove the little cylinder thing in the side of it that stops you from pushing it too far. I got mine stuck in a lift door when I still had the cylinder in it. I think they had do replace the door because when I went back everything about it was different.

***** Haha, my block recently developed an issue with the Odd Floor lift. The doors didn't work properly. The inner door sometimes didn't touch the sensor properly so the lift wouldn't move. Axis came to fix it and I looked into the shaft today and the lift is completely gone O_O

indicator inside a lift must be mandatory. i? there is another floor above 3. first pair of lifts is a bit abrupt for me. beach lift was vandalized. it has a neat motor. back wall looks like a door. it IS a door. motor looks fantastic. nice that they show you motor room. why replace something that isn't broken? i would like to see what the self lifts looked like before. lookout lift is dead. wadesworth lift is excellent.

Sam Sitar Quite a lot of old lifts don't have an indicator. There is another floor. In the 60s all lifts had a long over run beyond the top floor. If the lift is going up at full speed and their is a complete logic fail and the lift passes the final limit switch at full speed and is stopped by the overrun switch (which breaks the safety, the same as opening a door), the lift will stop without crashing. Quite a few 60s car parks have the motor room directly above the top floor, meaning that the lift can't actually serve this floor. I don't know why this is, seems stupid that the lifts don't go to the top (tesco in chatham lifts don't serve 7). What I wonder is what will happen with more recent lifts if they have a similar logic fail. I wonder if they would crash as there is often little over run.
