My Own Will Not God's Will Not really. The best and simplest and quickest way for an animal to die quickly is the disruption of the blood supply to the brain. The muslim/jewish way of slaughter can be performed any place on earth with the simplest of tools (knife). Predators like lions go straight for the throat because it is most effective way to incapacitate prey. The body of the animal still needs to squeeze out all the blood from its system and thats why the spinal cord is not severed. It may look cruel to you but man is a meat eater. Always has been always will be.
