Iran requested assistance from the US after a helicopter crash that killed the President of the Islamic Republic, reported US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller. He stated that "mostly for logistical reasons," the United States could not provide this assistance to Iran. The US State Department extended "official condolences" due to the death of Iran's leadership while emphasizing support for the Iranian people's struggle for rights and freedoms. Previously, EU officials, including European Council President Charles Michel and EU High Representative Josep Borrell, expressed condolences but did not emphasize the plight of the Iranian people in the country.
Among the few EU leaders who expressed condolences to Iran were Polish President Andrzej Duda, who compared the crash to the Smolensk tragedy, and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, who, despite Iran's support for Russia, is building an "economic partnership" with the country.
