I hope John feels better soon! I remember that episode. One of the things that rubbed me the wrong way was Robyn didn’t apologize about the wedding dress. She pointed the finger at Kody, but she never took accountability for her part. That right there is very telling of her personality.

The wives were pleased and “honored” that Robyn asked them to shop with her for the wedding, for her and Kody to go behind their backs and pick out the dress was a betrayal and a slap in the face. They may have been upset that Kody had seen the dress but they were deeply hurt. Robyn knew it was going to hurt them but she did it anyway. As far as my experience goes it is not the usual thing for the groom to pick out the Bride’s dress.

The other issue here is that the wedding dress incident is yet another reminder to his other three wives that Robyn is more important than they are now but is also more important now as his fiancee than they have ever been to him even as his wives. I also think I would find it insulting if I were one of the other wives and I found out that essentially I was being treated like a child and a fake show was put on to make me feel like I was a part of the wedding planning and to make me feel like I had an important place in my new Sister Wives life when in reality she was faking a bonding moment instead of just picking a different activity and having a real moment with me. In that moment if I'm Christine and the woman that I have been good and gracious enough to allow to enter my family and have a marriage with my husband does some shady fake manipulative mess like this...idk I'd be doing a lot more than just getting frustrated. There might be a full-on brawl. Because you didn't have to include me in the dress shopping if you didn't want to, but to make me look stupid by lying to me and faking a bonding moment is unforgivable.

I went to Utah in 2001. My husband was a poultry Veterinarian and one of his clients was in Moroni Utah and we tried to make a family trip out of a 3 day visit there. While my spouse was working the kids and I shopped for a few items. I had my 4 yer old son with me and my 13 year old daughter. I was 38 years old when I had my youngest. An older woman came up to me because it was a small town and I was a new face. She asked me if my son was my grandchild! She thought that my 13 year old daughter was his mother. I have found small town Mormons very different than my experiences living in California. They can assume some shocking things and comfortably say the most inappropriate things.

The couple is the Winders. They're so cute. Church doctrine states that until you're sealed in the church, premarital sex and living together is forbidden. Engagement doesn't matter, you have to be sealed in the church for the polygamy to be a valid marriage.

Poor John! Sick again. So Kody started separating Robyn and the rest of the family right away. Robyn's marriage hasn't ended in flames and crying yet. Looks like it could though... I feel like TLC definitely hand a hand in destroying this family. They needed more excitement and then drama for ratings so they insisted they do certain things or allowed things to happen that they knew would cause problems and didn't say anything.

I'm not Mormon but I read a great book, "Men to Match the Mountains," which was an abbreviated history of the US West and of the forces that built it. Of course, that means Mormonism and its history. From it, there was a lot of info about the first Mormon generations and how polygamy was formed, and how many wives were involved. Thirty or forty women married---sometimes real sisters---one man. Once one has an idea of how historically, a man sometimes having a couple dozen of wives, living in one house, then seeing how the Browns lived, it was no where even close to how American LDS polygamy was destined to work.

I started watching from the beginning & I’m noticing every episode how Robyn was distant from the whole family & how Meri confided in Robyn versus her own husband then Kody noticed how she she was with Robyn caught on & that’s how Robyn became Kodys back up on everybody’s conversations. Robyn told Christine & Kody when they were kinda spatting with each other Robyn says that’s enough stop it I thought don’t come between us so she was in everybody’s business so her claiming she learned some lesson from the beginning was a total lie. Kody did everything wrong with Robyn towards his wives it was like a lol moment in the other wives face I see it as he got a new shiny toy & disrespected all the others. Robyn never wanted the sister wives life she wanted the money & fame & thought she was gonna be another Kardashian which would never happen because they worked & built an empire Robyn lived off the backs of the 3 women & when more money came in Kody began to slack & Robyn rubbed off on Kody with the attitude. It became gross . Christine knew where it was going from the beginning & if you noticed the couch sessions watch Robyn & Meri’s reaction to other wives when something comes up it just proves none of these women had a true relationship especially with Fake Daddy it gets worse I’m already on Season 8 It all starts to crumble & Robyn has no relationship with anyone but Kody & her household just saying. It’s crazy that people attack Christine for being against Robyn since the beginning. The person who should be attacked is Kody. If even ONE wife was against him marrying again it should have been off the table. Christine is vocal that she has never wanted a 4th wife, so why the heck did they pursue one? It was so friggin hilarious to me how Kody gave that big ridiculous talk with the teens about not kissing because it’s such a serious life-altering action; yet when Christine was in labor-WHICH HE KNEW ABOUT BECAUSE SHE WAS INDUCED-then it was okay for him to kiss his girlfriend. Which again, the terms of the situation were the same. He said no boyfriend/girlfriend kissing, and then went an engaged in that exact behavior. And if you listen closely it was KODY who told Robyn to sneak outside for a goodbye kiss that he tried to do off camera. He forgot he was mic’d and he tells her to step out for a minute, closes the door and kisses her, then when they open the door he’s got the deer in headlights face. And he even says he shouldn’t be kissing his gf when his wife is in labor. So he was clearly well aware it was inappropriate and decided to do it anyway because he wanted to and because he thinks no rules apply to him. He’s in charge, and the real rules are just whatever he says in that moment.

Two items to add to this fantastic rewatch!!! 1) Robyn slips up in a confessional when she and Kody are talking about being pregnant with King Solomon. Robyn suggests (in January 2011) that they have been married for 10 month, Kody interrupts to say, "its been a long Iong time." Ten months of marriage would have put them getting married in February, when Robyn moved to Lehi. I always thought it was strange that Christine was so upset over an engagement kiss, but not the televised kiss while she was at the hospital being induced. Maybe it wasn't an issue because she knew Robyn and Kody were married? The plural wife ceremony is private with no cameras, just the other wives. I think Kody married Robyn without letting the crew know, but to take the pressure off the OG3. Oh, and so he could spend every 4th night, most afternoons and all weekends with Robyn. 2) Meri made a big deal about Robyn getting a second dress made that was brown so she could match the wives in all the professional photos they were getting free from TLC. But on the day of the grand reception, guess who shows up wearing another color to stand out, one that goes with Kody's vest/cummerbund? Why it's none other that Captain Passive Aggressive, Miss Meri Brown. That's right, check the photos, Meri is wearing a purple dress. I guess Meri took the "Kody picked the dress" bombshell a little harder than we thought. Thanks foe these fun recaps! I need them so much in between seasons.💙

I believe it was always a patriarchy. They *say* that Kody is the leader and makes the final decision, claiming that prevents one wife from exerting power over other wives. This episode is all for the show. No one plans a reception for 200 a few weeks before a wedding. I think Kody getting involved with the dress and the wives getting upset has more to do with whatever is really going on behind the scenes. I feel like the level of hurt being displayed on the show is often out of proportion to what we're seeing. These interviews are filmed weeks if not months after live filming has stopped. I think there's more to this dress shopping story then we're being told. Plus I still believe that Kody and Robyn were already married before their TLC reception.

I always thought a big part of the dress shopping controversy that was overlooked was how much a waste of time. what it takes for these women to come support the new wife. whether or not they were even interested. Considering the fact that Robyn now refers to Kody as her "best customer", and the fact that she has very clearly been given privileges and priority that the other wives haven't gotten since before her marriage to Kody I'm gonna go ahead and guess that something was going on in that house that wasn't going on other places for him and suddenly nothing else mattered. EDIT: even if production and TLC said that they wanted to see more wedding planning Kody didn't have to be involved... They could have genuinely made it super fun and had all the women working on this wedding together and they would have had sufficient drama because Christine was still working through all of her feelings about Robyn joining the family etc. Even if we are saying that the wedding planning wasn't driven necessarily by Robyn and Kody, the fact that they chose to go about it HOW they did and lie to the other wives and generally chose to act like menaces is what doesn't make any sense to me.

I was in a wedding and the dresses were brown. But they were beautiful. Those dresses were frumpy. And brown is not one of my favorite colors.
