The old name of the place was Kalimaati, named after goddess Kali. The local culture is an amalgamation of Tribal, local Odia and Kudmali cultures. Due to the establishment of the Steel Plant in Sakchi, the city of Jamshedpur developed. Along with industrial development came people from every nook and corner of the subcontinent. You can find food and people from all parts of the subcontinent in the city. Jamshedpur is also India’s first planned city and home to Asia’s oldest steel plant.
