The 3hm should totally come in stonewashed S35VN as well. Much prefer the handle on the hm & the standard 3 comes in both 1095 & S35VN.
@bobjohnson16332 жыл бұрын
Just gotta upgrade the steel to something that is more durable. I own the 3/4 in s35, but I'd like to not worry about blade durability
@klausheisler50142 жыл бұрын
@@bobjohnson1633 S35VN is pretty tough stuff from my experience (got the xancudo) but then I don't push my smaller blades very hard tbf. Split a bit of straight grain softer wood for kindling, no prying or anything too hard. I suppose you could get one & beat the 💩 out of it & see where or if it fails, esee has the no questions asked lifetime warranty so you would get a new blade even if you did break it. Not sure why companies don't use AEB-L steel, cheaper than PM steels, decades old steel so the heat treat has been extensively dialed in, easy to heat treat, easy to sharpen, has pretty good edge retention (definitely better than 1095) & it is insanely tough for a stainless steel, way tougher than S35VN. Not 100% but I think it's the toughest stainless you can get. Even tougher than some carbon steels. Not being able to get what I want from production companies is why I go with custom/independent knife makers more & more.
@bobjohnson16332 жыл бұрын
@@klausheisler5014 s35 is not super weak, but it is quite weak to lateral stress. 10 series steels have quite a bit higher durability, but something like magnacut, 12c27, 14c28n, lc200n and others are multiple times as strong.

I have big hands. I purchased the regular esee 4 and hate it and it stays in my drawer. I have the hm4 and absolutely love it. Fits my hand so much better. So for those with bigger hands I recommend the hm models. So about this handy tomahawk… who makes that??

I like the knife I do not like the black coating, it is toxic for food prep. I hate black coated knives , I know it is to prevent rust in carbon steels . However knife owners know this and we oil the blades with cooking oils to prevent rust and it is safe for food prep. Why not offer this knife in the excellent AEB-L stainless steel ? It is easy to sharpen in the field and it is stainless steel . You get the best of both worlds in AEB-L stainless steel. A black coated knife is only good for wood use or other cutting chores not for food use . I will stay with my LT Wright GNS in AEB-L and LT Wright Next Gen in AEB-L , great knives .

deagleimi50ae you won’t find one unless it is an Alumni Knife from one of our classes. There may be a few select runs that had that logo in small batches. But I can’t recall any off the top of my head.

Why doesn't it have a 90° spine? If it did you can use it to scrape fatwood shavings and to use as a striker for a ferro rod
@RandallsAdventureESEE10 ай бұрын
not everyone likes a 90* spine... some have it some don't....same goes for jimping, choils, steels, and scale materials..not matter what we do there will always be some that wished we would have done it differently.

How close are the Izula ll and the 3hm?
@erickmo11883 жыл бұрын
@@mapsgillnet6762 that’s almost Apples to oranges in comparison. The footprint of the carry options are very different. But if I was gonna buy one- I’d go with the 3hm. Slightly longer reach, a bigger belly sweep and a slightly thinner blade gives it a better capability of slicing and cutting- while being only a tiny bit heavier.
@andyblack56873 жыл бұрын
@@mapsgillnet6762 I have both. I much prefer the feel of the 3HM for most everything. Maybe if you wanted to skin wild game the Izula II would be better, but for doing stuff like Patrick is showing in this vid, the 3HM would be much better IMO. I also own and carry the fixed blade Xancudo. I like it better than the Izula II but not as much as the 3HM. Also it’s stainless steel so it’s a bit harder to sharpen if you let it get dull.
