Manipur's Bollywood Connection via Music: Many people don't know the legendary Hindi film music director of yesteryear SD Burman was born to a Manipuri Meitei mother named Sanasam Nirupama alias Nirmala Devi. Her husband Prince Nabadwip Chandra Dev Burman was also born to a Manipuri Meitei mother named Keisam Jatiswari Devi. Thus SDB's mother Nirupama Devi and grand mother Jatiswari Devi both were Manipuri Meitei. Nabadwip Chandra's father Ishan Chandra Manikya, the son of Krishna Kishore Manikya, ruled Tripura from 1849 to 1862. King Ishan Chandra had four queens namely Rajlakshmi, Moirangthem Muktabali Devi, Keisam Jatiswari Devi and Khumanthem Chandreswari Devi. Rajlakshmi was a Bengali and had no issue while the other three were Manipuri Meitei ladies. There once was a basti called Mekhlipara in Agartala where the retinues of Manipuri queens used to live. Almost all the songs of Dev Anand films were scored by SDB. His prodigal son RD Burman again created many Hindi film songs of Rajesh Khanna. RDB married Asha Bhonsle.
