These Johnson products campaigns ended mid 70's....I'm singing on this commercial with Ben Fernandez and Kitty Haywood (formerly of the Rotary Connection which feat. Minnie Riperton). It was regularly viewed on SOUL TRAIN, as George Johnson of Johnson Products was the major sponsor for Don Cornelius' Chicago based show. This was a Hershel Commercial production (Paul Wilson).

@@essvee86 I think this commercial is from 1979. I recall a segment break from Soul Train, they were playing Chic's "Good Times" which was release that year (1979) right before they went into this Afro Sheen commercial.

Thumbs up to the person who uploaded this commercial. I love this commercial, I miss it! Now I know where to find it! I was in the 2nd grade when this was popular. I bet sally's beauty supply sells it MAYBE. They sell anything! THEY STILL sell jheri curl products. I keep playing this commercial over again!

Black People need to go back to their Natural Hair and stop wearing all that fake ass horse hair trying to wear White Folks hair styles. I'm talking to all my Sistas. Go back to being Black, Beautiful, and Proud. Yes. Bring back the Afro Sheen. I could use some myself. I love this video. Thanks for sharing.

I wear my hair in a Afro and I love that round early 1970s look. I hope my sistahs leave that stringy loooooong thinning extension fake hair alone. We the Sistahs look so much better wearing our natural hair the FRO,Braids and Locs.

I have had natural hair my whole life and I straighten it very rarely. And I don't straighten it to "look white" I straighten it because it's easier to manage. I could never "look white" no matter how straight my hair is. I think we should be able to wear all hairstyles.
@byoung4eva18 жыл бұрын
The only reason black ppl say "straight hair is easier to manage" is because we were never raised to correctly care for our natural hair in it's natural state. U never see non black ppl saying their straight hair is easier to manage then when they curl it, now do u?

.....or it's because it's actually easier when it's in a straight or stretch style. I have been natural for the majority of my life, and have always had long hair. When my hair isn't wet, and it hasn't been stretched, just combing it out is difficult. So much hair, so much length. Its a pain.

When I was a kid around the time this ad came out (79-80), I stayed up late one night after my Dad fell asleep in front of the TV....I watched a little bit of Soul Train and then this commercial came on and it just seemed so bizarre to a little white boy like me :)

Sadly yes and the tragedy of the 1980s Relaxer & Jheri Curls Hell Horror began. Thanks to that ERA the majority of the Sistahs have damaged their hair follicles. The man who created the Hell Horror of Jheri Curls,well he was a Caucasian man. Hmmmmm,my conspiracy of him wanting our Melanin people bald.

It's more about history and where there weave/braids come from, really. Besides, you can obtain the same styles with straightened natural hair that you get using weaves. There's no reason to put chemicals or someone else's hair on your head..

I think people (not just black people) should be able to wear their hair anyway they want to. Straight, natural, wigs, weave. If someone wants to wear straight hair or wigs/weave because they like the way it looks why shame them?
@byoung4eva18 жыл бұрын
Everyone should wear their hair the way they like, but this is JUST about black ppl, since other races can/do wear their hair how they like, without being brainwashed for generations to think it's unmanageable. It's a shame to see black women with straight weaves, because weaves were meant to enhance what u already have. How can straight hair enhance a black persons hair when our hair isn't straight? Do u see non black ppl walking around with afros and kinky weaves on a daily basis? Nope
