MARSHA P JOHNSON - PEOPLE'S MEMORIAL

Marsha P Johnson was dragged from the Hudson River on July 6,1992. Her body laid on the sidewalk for several hours with blood pouring from her eye sockets, her mouth & a hole in her head before the coroner's van arrived. A young waterfront denizen was upset watching passers-by step on the blood-stained concrete where her body had lain. He arranged a 'memorial' with discarded bottles in the shape her body on the spot. It would last for 5 months. An eyewitness to the crime stepped forward several weeks later but the 6th Pct. officers did very little searching for the suspected perpetrator. In 1997, Bennie Toney filled me in about seeing the same suspect in a Christopher Street bar where he lured "faggots" into taking him home & then robbing them. He claimed he hated faggots & would like to kill them all & bragged about some killing in the past & how he had put a number of people into therwater.
