the random button is a great idea. unfolding lift fence lets the car top controls function.

This button is useful when a school builds a building for clubs in each floor, kids can randomly select one

I really really _really_ wish you had've stayed somewhere discreet for a while to see what became of the lift engineer (7:52). :D Also, next time something is as confusing as that fencing (which I presume you've figured out by now), put a ton of photos into the video!

The only lift I have heard the "please select your floor" message was in a 1960s lecture theatre (the lift had been retrofitted). One oddity was that it announced the basement as "first basement" suggesting that there was a James Bond style underground layer below it. This may have been possible as the basement was only a few steps below street level (ground floor was in line with a 60s podium level covering an "underground" car park). Unfortunately the Otis from late 1990s (or early 2000s) is probably the one that has the oldest cab, buttons and controller in the 5 60s buildings connected by the podium. No random button when I used it- however the university now employs Chris Speed who invented the button

What's the purpose of having a random button? It's pretty fun though, but I'm trying to think of a reason why they put it there. Someone who made the decision must have had a good reason for that. Imagine the building design meeting between the owner, architect and Otis' project manager... The building owner must have said, oh, I want to have this nifty feature, a button that takes people to a random floor. And the architect and the project engineer saying, oh right, whatever. Maybe it's a test feature to see if the floor selector is working.

Imagine that elevator have some locked floors... and it randomly selected such a floor...If that was an ecodisc doing so, it would not randomly select an locked floor or failing to do so. I came across a machineroom of an ecomod, and the basement was locked off. so I could not even sent the elevator to the basement trough the elevator controller...
@benolifts
@benolifts 8 жыл бұрын
What does the eco mod logic look like. Is it very similar to ecodisc cabinet logic. Ecodiscs say NOCALL if you try to send it to locked floor from cabinet. I still need to find the manual to understand the coded menu on ecodiscs.
@SummerADDE_Elevators
@SummerADDE_Elevators 8 жыл бұрын
It is hard to find the manual. It is only kept among KONE engineers and no other engineers have access to it in order to navigate around the structure and thus cannot modify the lift to customers benefits. It's Products secret y'know... Basically, the knowledge I have for an ecodisc logic is shared among average engineer, unless you're an KONE employee. The Ecomod I came across was basically an OTIS Series 1 elevator turned into an ecodisc. The machineroom was located on the top floor next to the shaft, so the old elevator had the same wire arrangement as an average Ecodisc has, so it was easy to convert it into MRL. The logic cabinet was of the same design as of an average ecodisc, like an older MRL that used to have the logic in the cabinet, and not in the shaft like nowdays. I didn't look it troughtfully as I am not really intrested in theese modern stuff. I just wished theese elevators stayed original.
@dykodesigns
@dykodesigns 8 жыл бұрын
But what if a KONE engineer starts working for another lift company.... then he can share the knowledge around, or do they have to sign an NDA? I've seen that a company in the netherlands sells special unlock tool (see company website: www.programmeertool.nl/Kone%20Monospace%20LCE%20KNX.htm) that allows generic lift engineers to mess about with a KONE controller and allows them to diagnose them without needing the official KONE tools. They seem to sell similair tools for OTIS as well....

@benolifts
@benolifts 7 жыл бұрын
To break safet either unlatch and outer door, press a stop button, or open the inner doors. Do not open the inner doors when approaching a floor as you might get them out of sync. Some very cheap chinese logics, and some 80s logics from the early days of electronics get very confused. All other logics ar fine.

The random lift is in the university at Portland square. In one of the modern buildings.

It is an AC VF drive. There seems to be some 100 hz hum which makes it sound a bit buzzy. The class 319 has DC motors and uses PWM. This has no similarities to this lift.
