so, i followed a reading guide for throne of glass because i wanted to do the tandem read for tower of dawn and empire of storms. when it comes to throne of glass or assassin's blade, the "romantic order" is throne of glass first, because you get to know the main characters first and it has more emotional impact, and i guess also some "aha" moments when you connect everything together. that's what i did. and then "purist order" is basically just chronological order, which puts assassin's blade first. i'm interested to know how you'll come away from assassin's blade and if it hooked you or not, it's such a hard choice to choose what to read first!

Assassins blade first! I loved reading the assassins blade so when Celaena starts talking about the experiences in the initials books you know what she’s talking about. I’ve had a friend say when she read Tog first she regretted it bc Celaenas character was more difficult to connect to.

Sounds like an exciting TBR! I loved the Inheritance Cycle (Eragon) when it first came out (and was supposed to be a trilogy) and it still remains one of the favourite book series of all time. For the Throne of Glass series, I read in publication order (recently did an audiobook reread). The first time I read, I was waiting for books to be written and published. I like Assassin’s Blade in the middle(ish), because it gives some insight into the main characters motives prior to the book starting, and also introduces characters that will be coming up in the books that come after (the Assassins Blade was published) and how she meets them and how they come to be in the story. I don’t necessarily think you need to know about those characters at the beginning of the series. That is just my opinion/preference. Have a great reading month and good luck getting through your TBR!

Sjm actually wrote AB first as novellas but published them later as a whole after TOG. She also previously said that AB should be read first but recently changed it. I've not started the series yet but I'll be reading AB first as it makes the most sense to me.

Oh I was so nice! It was our first time on the Disney Wish and while the food was fantastic and the ship itself beautiful, it lacked a lot of Disney magic that makes the other 4 so Disney-esc

​@sheisbookedandbusy I don't mind YA generally, but you can tell these were written by a teenage boy. Full of angst. In Eragon, the plot held up the story, but in Eldest, you didn't have that. Plus the author tried to insert some romance in the second one, but clearly didn't have a clue. Still I know a lot of people love the whole series so maybe it was just me.

Most people say to start with The Assassin's Blade I tried reading it and I got confused with it so I started Throne of Glass instead I only got to Chapter 9. I have been wanting to read Fear the Flames but it just got picked up from a publisher so I have to wait until September. I heard some great things about The Nanny. ⚔ Oh I wouldn't mind reading Eragon since I haven't read that series yet. Hope you have a great reading month!

As though english isn't a hard enough language, we have to deal with words like "appendix" 😂😂 but fun fact: because I am OCD, I actually looked up what the plural was afterwards & BOTH ARE RIGHT! Apparently when you are speaking of a book appendix, it's appendices, but when you are talking about the organ appendix, it's appendixes! WHO KNEW! 😂😂

I read TOG first and The Assassins Blade third I believe? It was fine and I still enjoyed the books, but I wish I would’ve started with TAB😮 Having the story happen in chronological order just works better for me… rather than jumping to past and present timelines between books 😅 but don’t stress too much about it, it’s a beautiful story that you’re going to enjoy regardless

I say read Assassin's Blade first. That is how I did and while i had a little bit of a hard time at the start, simply because I didnt understand what the story was, I enjoyed reading it chronologically. If you want tk read the story chronologically (sotry-line wise) definitely read Assassins Blade first

One character doesn't reappear until Book 7, but I liked the surprise factor and if you wait to read Assassins Blade until halfway through the series you may find it dry or boring because there won't be any shock factor. Like, Sam (I LOVE HIM SO MUCH). I don't know if I'd have loved him as much if I already knew how his story ended in AB

Just to give you the other opinion: Please read TOG first! The stories in the prequel won’t connect until the second half of the series, which is why SJM says to read the first half of the series and then the prequel. 💜😊

I think doing Assassin's Blade first is a good choice. I personally find the main character to be a bit annoying in the first couple of books, but reading Assassin's Blade helps you understand her better and makes her more likable even when she's being UNlikable.
