I love the craftsmanship in this floor. I know how much work this takes and you did it all without knee pads. I grew up in a 1830's farmhouse in Vermont with floors just like this. The floors were painted, I assume that was easier to keep up over the years than a stain finish. I am also in awe of the mitered corners on all the wall surfaces. Looking forward to seeing how you finish it all.

I have done many of these especially in basements with urethane glue. The use of random boards when calculated correctly can make the last boards installed much easier to finish near walls. The use of pine in this day and age sure is less costly than oak. As for the look, it is basically up to the individual. One thing about this type of work no matter what the species is, it sure is time consuming.

Dan the floors look beautiful. I Love the wide boards!! You can tell that you Both have worked hard on this house with all the personal touchs and professional craftsmanship of all the wood work in this home. Love the homemade saw guides that you made for cutting the floor boards. I was not aware that you could use raidant heat for under a wood flooring, always thought that the heat would warp the wood..

Thanks Dan! Appreciate your techniques on fitting boards. I’ve done flooring in a few houses and it can be tricky. Perhaps a follow up video on dealing with moisture content, out of square rooms, carpenter techniques on trim would be of interest to people. I personally like quarter sawn oak better than pine after seeing furniture from the 1920’s-1930’s for less pronounced grain and also for its harder surface but each to their own. You may start a renewed interest in pine flooring and walls. 😊

I love the wide plank flooring. I wonder, with all that exposed wood grain - does it ever feel like it's too much? I love the look, but I might consider making the floor another shade or two darker and then putting the poly on it... just to break up that overwhelming feeling. IDK... there's enough difference from board to board in color/grain that it might not look/feel the way I want it to if I made the floor just a bit darker. Of course, you guys do what appeals to you... but you did ask us for our thoughts.

How are you going to keep today's wood (fast growing large spaced rings) from checking and warping in such wide widths? It would be a task with quarter sawn old growth fir of past centuries. A large part of the reason most flooring even a century ago is of narrow width.
