🤔Like you said, its up to them to fix a lot of things but it truly is their first effort at doing discrete. I was not expecting a flawless launch and the RT is good/media engine is good. I look forward to seeing what they do in the next 8 months or so.

I agree. These are probably the only GPUs ever that will get better, not worse, over time. And yes, that DXVK stuff is MAGIC. Is that available for other games? I'd love to hear more about that.

DXVK works with any DirectX 9, 10, and 11 game. I use it for a lot of my library since it can actually help with performance depending on the title.

I doubt Intel is going to invest any effort improving the performance with older APIs. That's the past.

@@1pcfred DX9 is still used in some very popular games. Team Fortress 2 and CS:GO are still played by millions and they exclusively use DX9. Also, a lot of people still play older games. The idea of not wanting to play or support a game just because it's old is baffling to me.

I think these cards look great, I prefer the A770 with the subtle lighting around the fans, but really like the clean minimalist look that they have going on. Performance seems pretty good too, definitely usable. Im still using my trusty 1080ti till I can afford to upgrade my power supply and gpu. Appreciate all the videos and your humour!

It's kind of fun to use DXVK to translate API and not impact it negatively, but boost it a lot on ARC. "I just wonder how it would work better on other games." It shows proof that ARC on Linux is something that could work well. I wonder if there is a way to run DXVK on Windows.

I bought an A750 and have been very happy with it. The encoding quality and speed is better than my 3090... For gaming I obviously use the 3090, but that cost me $1600. I've tested it out for gaming though, and have enjoyed it, the performance was around 3060-3060 Ti levels and I only had one bug in my first week of use.

that's insane. Intel did a smart move with the encoding

Having another competitor in the market is nice, but the resizable bar requirement kills it for one of the more interesting use cases - dropping it into a somewhat older system (say, an OEM system with a relatively modest power supply and something like a GTX 1060 3GB or something equally bad) and getting a decent performance boost. If you're going to have to upgrade to something new enough to support resizable bar, you might as well spring a few more bucks for a lower end AMD card that works better on DX9/10/11 games and doesn't have any of the driver weirdness. Barring some massive driver improvements (and perhaps shipping DXVK with the driver set), I can't see the Arc cards being used very widely.

If you have the means/desire to do so, please try running this in a system with another GPU, with the Intel being dedicated to the task of encoding/decoding (recording/streaming) while another GPU runs games Think along the lines of the same role as a capture card I've yet to see anyone make a video about doing or trying to do this, and I think the interest of this use case is extremely high, as many of us have top end last gen rigs and are more than okay with the performance of it, but are heavily drawn to the benefits of av1 encoding (especially for UHD recording), and would prefer a "dual GPU" scenario over buying another 2-4tb of high speed storage, or upgrading their GPU to a +1.6k GPU to get it

Radeon still beats Arc on price to performance. Which is probably why Intel didn't mention AMD at all in their presser. Seems like DXVK fixes a lot of its issues, but unfortunately that relegates the card to hobbyists, since not a ton of people know about it. I haven't seen many videos exploring Linux performance. Proton includes DXVK by default with the game download. Depending on the situation with the MESA drivers, I wonder if Linux might actually be the best use case for Arc.

thanks for trying out DXVK. when I wanted to play alpha centaurai on windows 10 ages ago, I used a pcgamingwiki entry to find out how to get it to run with modern resolutions and they had a link to something called DxWin, which basically put the game into a new DirectX window that was then resizeable, and capable of borderless windowed-fullscreen. I can only imagine what it was doing. perhaps its similar to DXVK? in that it intercepts drawcalls from the games for older versions of DirectX and modifies them to run on newer graphics cards through DirectX 6/7/8/9 or something. Anyway, if you ever wanted to play Sid Merier's Alpha Centaurai, I'd reccomend that pcgaming wiki entry/DxWin solution.
