Jones' is using size and age as an excuse. Imagine if Stipe refused to defend his belt against Francis because he's bigger and younger, he'd be one of the most hated fighters in the UFC. The problem for Jon fighting Tom is Jon doesn't get anything for beating Tom Tom has nothing to lose, and everything to gain. If he beats The GOAT, he can say he's The GOAT now It's all downside for Jon. That's what he's saying, post-fight. It's a must-lose situation for Jon. The thing is UFC is about best fighting the best. Tom isn’t a nobody. He’s no1 contender and interim champion. Jon shouldn’t be able to hold the belt hostage or it loses its worth. He’s has the heavyweight belt so he has to fight a heavyweight. If he doesn’t fancy a go at Tom he has to put it down and walk away and let no1 and no2 fight for it. Of course he should get a big pay check but Dana should be saying to Jon, fight Tom before end of July or no2 steps in and you lose the belt. No way atm is Dana letting Jon fight Poatan at lhw. If Jon wins which he knows he stands a much better chance than against Tom he rides off into the sunset with both belts leaving no hw or lhw champ.
