A Saint he ain't, well now he IS! But he could get a little crazy sometimes! I remember I think it was Drew who told me that Randy would party or anything before playing, but after, he was surrounded by girls and people offering him things, and apparently one night he took something and was hanging upside down either from a tree limb or some bar or railing and yelling! Which was VERY rare for him to do! So, Drew thinks it may have been a bit of white stuff, and I guess it could have been! I have heard a lot of stories from guys in Quiet Riot, my old Guitar tech who also worked on Randy's stuff when he was still in Quiet Riot! And other stories from Ozzy that he told My last wife, who worked for the Osbournes for about 6 or more years as a flight attendant. And other Stories from Bob Daisley and Rudy Sarzo! I like to call him Saint Rhoads too! And when he was my guitar teacher, he got a little upset with me because I came to a lesson a little buzzed! Remember, it used to be illegal! Anyway, I like to humanize him and remind people he was a normal guy, besides being one of the greatest guitarists ever and a very cool-looking and acting guy! He had a big influence on me when I was growing up! Saint Rhoads!

I remember watching an interview with Steve Vai. He said when he first heard Randy playing it was the most terrifying guitar sound he had ever heard, that Randy was truly innovating, and qualified that by saying, listen to his solos he was doing things that nobody had ever done before. Of course that’s all true but what got me about his playing was his phrasing. His phrasing was so good his solos are like listening to an intelligent conversation whith his guitar asking great questions and better answers. His playing is timeless, technical ability and creative ability he had more of each than 100 players could only hope to share. In my opinion the greatest player to ever draw breath and by a distance.

She always said he was always practicing extremely difficult baroque classical guitar music in the shop with freakish technical proficiency. To think all these years later he is considered a metal shredder is almost unfair. He was possibly the greatest classical shredder of all time because even Yngvie never did Classical contata concerts like Randy did.

Every tape had a date, that is all,so no one knows for sure except for the very few shows ozzy knew where he was. But I get so much negative crap, like this is not the last one, who cares! It is a great recording and people need to mellow out .All of these Randy expert sites are run by people who were not even alive or didn't know him. I saw RR 3 times w/Quiet Right at the Whiskey back in the day. I remember being just so blow off my ass by what I saw. I also had the chance to meet Randy once. He came to a gig of a high school rock band my friends had formed. I was the bands roadie. The gig was outside at Johnny Carson Park in Burbank Cal. We were all from Burbank and Randy had become our local hero. Randy shows up with his guitar case in hand. He sat down on the grass a bit away from everyone. I was stunned at how short and thin he was. On stag he looked so much larger than life. The last song my friends' band did was a QR song. Randy smiled throughout the whole song and really seemed to be listening very closely. After the band was finished, Randy came over to talked to everyone. He was so mild manner, non pretentious, and so incredibly humble. When we were loading out he insisted upon carring equipment to the van. He thanked the guys in the band for inviting him and asked to be invited again.

So ,I'm glad to hear stories and tell mine too! Randy was a great guitarist ,but a great person too!

Deep! I like it! Randy always liked heavy guitar ,but Quiet Riot turned into a glam / rock band. He wanted to be heavy sounding ! When I would bring in Judas priest or Scorpions ,Randy really liked teaching those to me! I really wish I would have been older when I got the chance to take lessons from him! I am sure he would have got heavier and heavier sounding, and playing, with the classical as a part of his playing! Tommy Aldridge told me once that Randy really wanted to be in a heavy ,but still melodic band! Just not with Ozzy and Sharon fighting all the time!

I was shocked when he gave me a cassette of the Blizzard album, it was so different and like he turned into a legend, after 1 record, I don't really count the 2 Quiet Riot albums ,but he did learn important recoding techniques that would help him, like double or triple tracking his leads and rhythm parts! This sounds exactly like the soundboard recording of the concert held at Wings Stadium, Kalamazoo, MI Feb 9, 1982. I've been collecting bootlegs for 30 plus years. Their are 44 known bootleg shows of Randy Rhoads with Ozzy not one of them is from Knoxville. I have 42 of those shows. The 2 that I DONT have are in Bob Daisley's hands so they would be earlier shows with him in the band not a 1982 show. Bob wont release them. Tommy Aldridge has said he has some shows, but its more than likely stuff that is already out there. The last known recorded show is the El Paso, Texas show on Feb 23, 1982. Their are shows that are mislabeled.. 2 that come to mind are Indianapolis which is really the Montreal 1981 show. The other popular one is labeled as Randy's last recorded show Atlanta March 17, 1982 which is another show I can't recall which one. So the show that you have for Knoxville is highly likely another show as well and just mislabeled. Here is a list of all the shows and the ratings of the sound quality. Randy Chapman...I posted my comment before I saw yours. I was expecting it was going to be Montreal or Cleveland, but immediately thought Kalamazoo. Since you appear to be a very knowledgeable Rhoads fan, did anybody ever figure out what show, or shows were used for the live bonus disc that came with the Diary anniversary release? Pretty certain the keyboard intro to Crowley was from 1980. Just never seen anybody pinpoint what Blizzard show it was from.

@@michaelflatters7354 The tracks that make up the OZZY LIVE disc had previously circulated as a bootleg under the title "Randy Rhoads Axeman" claiming to have been recorded at the Indianapolis Convention Center on June 4, 1981. However, tour dates of the Blizzard of Ozz tour state that June 4 was a concert at San Antonio, Texas. The only difference is speed correction was done and the track listing was arranged in the order of a typical Ozzy Osbourne concert of the time. On the bootleg the tracks are not in order of a standard performance.

I have every show with Randy except 4 or 5 . I started collecting as Randy was touring in England, I gave him copies of 2 shows when he came back to Burbank. Since I had been his neighbour and teacher, he new I was just as excited for him as he was! So since 1980 I have been collecting recordings ,and know Randy and Rudy it helped ! And then I met a kid who's dad was working for the company hired to do the Diary tour, so that is how I got the soundboard recordings, and he also had about 10 shows on video,at least 3 camera shoots, I didn't make copies of the videos because I thought they would be put out by now, and it was expensive to have good copies made ,and I was 18 and going to be a father, so I didn't do it. Anyway, that is how I got all these ! I'm glad you like them, I just try and keep Randys name out there! Eddie was incredible, but most people know who he is,but that will change in 5 years. I consider myself lucky to have seen him play once-- forever a legend in the annals of great guitarists. Hard to rank, but I'd guess Hendrix, Van Halen, and Rhoads are in a class above the rest.

Yeah , Randy was my neighbour and eventually my guitar teacher. I saw him play with Ozzy about 4 times ,2 on the Blizzard tour and 2 on the Diary tour! It is very hard to explain just how great he was,and he was just getting started ,his tone would have been very different by the time he finished that tour, and if he did do,1 more studio album, I know he had one live album to do to finish off the Jet records contract ,and they had 3 shows in the can by the time they finished the Blizzard tour and those have all been put out. You are right, you only get a small idea with these soundboard tapes as to what he sounded ,and looked like live! I'm happy he got that fame ,but almost wish it was some other way ,and he was still here. I miss him still!

There is no need for ranking. They all have strengths and weaknesses. Although it's hard to find any with RR. He just needed more time...

That's great! He was a great teacher as well as a player! When he left to go record the first ozzy album ,when he came back to Burbank with copies of the album ,first time I heard it ,I was shocked how great he was ,and I had taken lessons from him for about a year ,and heard him jam from when he taught me ,and the Quiet Riot albums were, well you know......... so that first Blizzard album was amazing! It was great watching him get bet better and take over the world with a sub par singer and made him bigger then he ever was! I still miss him.

Hearing this just makes me smile and cry!!!! Smile 🙂 because Randy was so damn good and yeah I was a little jealous!!!! Cry 😢 because Randy died way too young!!!! He along with Eddie Van Halen inspired me to play guitar and really get into music!!!! Meaning start a band and Rock out and possibly make a go at it and make music as a career!!!! I still can't play like Randy to save my life!!!! I can play maybe some of his rhythm parts to his songs but his solos note for note!!!!! Forget about it man!!!! L.O.L.!!!!!!🤣😂🤣🤣😂🤣😂🤣😄😄😄😀😄😀😄🤣😂🤣😄😄😀😃😃😀 He was an inspiration and influenced me!!!! I started playing guitar in 1985!!!! I used to have posters and pictures of Randy Rhoads on my bedroom wall!!!! I still play guitar to this day and I'm 51 years old!!!!🥲🥲🥲🥲 RIP Randy Rhoads!!!! May Your music legacy live on and out live all of today's stupid music trends!!!!! Today's music!!!! Stinks!!!!!😝😝😝😩😩😩 It just sucks!!!!! Today's music is just horrible!!!! If Randy were alive today I think 🤔 he would have put most of today's guitar shredders to shame!!!! He just had that magic touch!!!! He was original!!!! The sound was in his hands and inside him!!!! Thank God Randy had the opportunity to bring it out and play with Ozzy Osbourne!!!! And Quiet Riot!!!! (Early 75-79)!!!!🥲🥲🥲😀😃😄😃😀

That was nice. I was 12 when my friend Brent ,he goes by Brent Woods now,he's playing with Sabastian Bach and was in Vince Niels band and on his second solo album, anyway ,we both played guitar ,I took lesson from some Jazz guitarist in Glendale, I lived and grew up in Burbank California, so my friend was playing his guitar and I asked him,why are you so much better then me? He said it was probably his guitars teacher, Randy Rhoads, I asked where he was ,he said just a couple blocks away. So we rode our bikes over to his house, my friend d said, he needs to take lessons from you! I just stood there, I knew he was in a band ,but the stuff I heard I didn't really like, I know this sounds crazy, but, that's how I first met him. So we talked about what I wanted to learn and he gave me his card and told me to call his mom and set up some lessons. So,I called ,and he was charging 2 dollars more then the guy I was with, so I said I had to thi k a out it. So,my friend Brent said it would be worth it if I wanted to learn how to play hard rock ,or metal, but this was 1978 ,so I started taking lessons and he was great! I learned a lot from him,not just how to play ,but they had a thing where the guitar students and bass and drummers, the more advanced ones, would all get together and we would learn how to play in a band! Nobody was doing this,it really helped me out when I started playing. Anyway,he was a great friend and I was happy for him when he started to get popular with Ozzy,Randy hated Black Sabbath ,and I remember when he got the gig ,he wasn't really happy, but his mom said it would help him meet people in the business, because he wanted out of Quiet Riot, and he saw Van Halen get signed and shoot to the top,Top, wanted that chance too! Well ,he got it,and when he sent the first album home ,like a box load so his mom could give them out,so I got one and put it on,it was like a different person,he was just going for it! He knew this was it,ozzy or not, he was going to get noticed! And he did. I could go on,but ,I'm so glad I was able to take lessons ,get to know him and watch him go higher and more famous ,and then on the Diary tour,he knew that he had made it, but that made him play even better! I still miss him,I just pretend he is on tour somewhere! But I remember hanging up my first poster of him,and thinking, wow, that's Randy ,he did it! And then of course it all just stopped. To me ,that was it ,as far as Ozzy,I didn't really like Jake,as a person,I met him when he was in Ratt, and Nikki Sixx was just starting Motley crue, so I had known Nikki and started hanging out with him,and that a whole other story. But ,I was in bands, 2 that got pretty big, sold out every club on the strip and even toured and ended up opening for Motley crue for a few shows. But ,Randy ,I think about him always,I'm no guitar master, I was more concerned about what I looked like then playing, but I guess I was good enough. I still write and put out music, and Randy was and still is a big influence! I still miss him!

@@MichaelDouglasSkewes Dude!!!! You were right there in the scene so to speak!!!! Your lucky!!!! That's totally awesome!!!! Totally!!!!😊😀😊😀 Thanks for sharing!!!! It seems that you have a solid foundation learning from one of the best guitar players on the planet!!!! At least you learned the fundamentals on the guitar!!!! I tried to learn the basics!!!! I like to KNOW what I am playing!!!! But I didn't want to get too caught up in music theory!!!! I was afraid it would hinder my creativity!!! "You can't play that guitar chord or scale there!!!! It's not in the right key!!!!" I'm glad I memorized most of the basic chords and chord shapes!!!! Man you have a lot of history!!!! Stories to tell!!!! I think I was born a few years to late!!!! To be in that early 80s night club scene most have been really cool!!!!😀😊😀😊😃🙂😄

@@michaelbujanda8785 yeah, it was....crazy,unbelievable, insane! I'm glad I was in it, but it is like riding a frigging Shark ,it's exciting, but you might not make it! The whole lifestyle is unsustainable ! I remember when Randy was gone,it didn't really hit me that HE was gone! That sucked, the funeral was surreal, yeah there were all these rockstars, or soon to be Rockstars, but it didn't matter, because of what happened. Since it was obviously closed casket, it was like ,maybe he isn't gone, but I sat down with his brother in law a few ,well about 25 years later ,and he had been drinking and we were talking about something to do with a tribute type thing, and ima a ked him out of the blue, who went to claim Randy after the accident, I heard it was you,and he said, yep,I was the new brother in law and nobody wanted to do it so I volunteered! I said that was nice of you, and then he proceeded to tell me everything, more then I ever wanted to know! So ,that is a bad part of being so close to things. BUT, as far as music,it was great,to go from Randy ,then meeting Nikki at a liquor store in Burbank, and watching everything they did,and start planning my band ,writing all the songs ,which Craig Turner, Randy's top student ,took Randy's overflow students, and then was the teacher after George Lynch stopped teaching,it wasn't his thing. Anyway, Craig really helped my song writing . I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I just start typing away, I'm glad you like the Randy stuff I posted, there are a lot more ,if you just look up Randy Rhoads on my KZbin channel, and you can see some other stuff to! Feel free to ask questions, take care!

@@michaelbujanda8785 yes,and Network, with Drew Forsyth on drums! Drew and I were drinking buddies for a few years,I showed him the ring I bought my first wife, who I met at Musonia, she was 16 and I was 18 and bam pregnant! But we stayed togethr for 9 years, and had my son ,who is 37 now! Anyway , Drew started crying when I showed him the ring ,and then I started crying ,you know ,one of those drunk things. Anyway, yeah Craig went on to teach a MIT and became one of the top professors of guitar there, he learned everything from Randy ,so that shows you how good Randy really was as a teacher! You should look up Network on Soundcloud, they have 2 songs on there, you will hear Craig Turner and Drew Forsyth with their band that got very close to getting signed ,but the singer and bass player blew it for them. If you cant find it let me know, I'll see if I can post a link.
