”If I Ever Lose My Faith in You" is a song off Sting’s 1993 album “Ten Summoner's Tales”. It was the fourth solo album after his departure from The Police and IMO, it’s akin to asking “what’s your favorite Beatles record”😊, “Ten Summoner’s Tales” may very well be my favorite solo record of his. Being the opening track on the album, the second I heard it, I was instantly hooked because of Sting’s amazing songwriting and solid bass playing in addition to the incredible musicianship of guitarist Dominic Miller, keyboard player David Sancious & the incomparable pocket/groove of drummer Vinnie Colaiuta. Although he may have done it prior to this record, it was the first time I had seen Sting play vintage P-Bass using the old-fashioned 50s style downstroke thumb technique. It made his notes fat and round. I chose my Epiphone Jack Casady Signature Bass strung with tapewound flats or this track. In addition, I used my Moises app to remove the original bassline so what you hear is all me. Sidenote: I had recorded & posted this with a different bass a few weeks ago. However, I played it for a friend of mine and he mentioned that I had missed a syncopated part in the verse so I re-recorded it Today🤦🏼♂️. I hope you enjoy my take on it.
