Great review on a great controller! The split Stems feature sounds terrific. Virtual DJ has some a similar tricks where you can apply effects to a specific Stem. But I like how the RFour takes it a step further by assigning specific deck controls to manipulate the Stems.

Thanks for showing me that split key function. Since i have a 4 deck controller, i can load the same track on 2 decks, and get the same effect, and still be able to mix in and out!! Very cool feature to have this built in to this unit. If it was stand alone, i'd be all over this.

Yes you can, although the advantage with this unit is that you can "lock" the decks together if you like, but apart from that - yes.

Thanks for the very detailed overview! 👍The Rane Four has more features than I expected. The integration with Serato Stems seems to be well implemented and the OLED displays over the pads are a nice addition. However, I am disappointed that Rane didn't release a Rane One MkII with onboard FX. I would love to see Rane release a Rane One MKII with some of the new features introduced on the Rane Four.

I'm in about a month learning this controller, and am confident enough to take it out on my late summer residency. The Rane Four is honestly a joy to use, especially if you're a long standing InMusic user that felt left in the lurch by Numark's move down-market into cheaper stuff. If you're coming from an NVII or NS6II and want to step up to heavily pro gear with a pretty shallow learning curve, the Four is a no-brainer, though the size will require rethinking your case/bag solution. One note for Rane DVS-compatible controllers- IF YOU OWN SERATO DVS, MAKE SURE YOUR DVS PLUG-IN IS DISABLED IF YOU'RE JUST USING THE RANE FOUR (OR THE ONE) AS A REGULAR ALL-DIGITAL CONTROLLER. DVS quietly enables upon first boot of your Rane controller, and you'll get the annoying drifting and uneven waveforms that come with it, leading to trouble waveform beatmatching as I do. That issue led me to a first night of panic until the lightbulb switched on in my head.

Most professional headphones have the cable on the left ear and it would be better to input then in the left side. With the way it's organized the headphones are a little cumbersome. Hi there, Great review and walk through. Do you know if the BPM on the platter display will show 2 decimal places if you have that selected in Serato? (ie match its software setting), or can it be switched on in the hardware in a menu for example? I have recently looked at this controller a little closer, I hesitated at first to give it a look as upgrading to this would mean a new laptop most likely. The stems features does seem like it would give a lot of handy tools. The Rev7 also has my attention for a lot of it's features and how I can see myself using those. The Rane four having the 2 extra channels, for 2 Serato decks and 2 auxialary inputs , and the onboard effects make this mixer section nice, but I also like the rev7 mixer and it could work out for my workflow . Theres a price difference, and this one doesnt have the moving platters.... Hard choice, wish there was a way that I could try them both without just buying them, but I don't think that is easily possible where I live. Going to be a hard decision... You mention no beatgrid controls, it seems theres some open room around the top sides of the jogs that maybe could have been used for beatgrid and some Serato view/panel controls... I really love that I have some great controls for those on my MC7000.

The instant doubles gives it away with the stems splitting. Meaning that, with a bit more work, you can do the same with other 4 channel mixers, mapping the stems to the pads, as I did with my 2 channel mix, but better. Of course it makes ir easier and has other functions, but regarding the stems I think it's possible to do the same with other controllers.

Stupid question but split cue on should split audio into right channel and left, correct? I can test this by rotating knob to right to hear my full right channel. I rotate it fully left, to hear my left channel (deck playing, but fader all the way right). I should hear my left track (to cue) in headphones. But I hear nothing. Any tips?

Split cue puts the master output through one channel, and whatever output you have the Cue button/s pressed on through the other.

For me the only downsides are the 1/4" outputs for booth. WTF. That was such a brilliant option to have dual XLR outs on the One. Then, to not have a motorized option is super silly as the whole Rane brand is vinyl like moving platters. But the pads look better, the effects are clearly better, the knobs for fader controls look less loosey than the Rane Ones and Mic echo plus talkover is great!! Nice demo. Gonna wait to see what happens with the platter options next year. Still happy with the One.

Not sure what format you go with for the balanced outs really matters, cables are relatively cheap. And "the whole Rane brand is vinyl like moving platters", we agree it was until now, but they obviously wish it to be more universal high end, not just moving platters.

​@@digitaldjtips Nah man, it's not the price; it's the connection. XLR's are way more secure, durable and less likely to have a janky, static-y, horrible popping connection.. XLR outs to master, XLR input on microphone and the booth speakers, which are almost all powered now, need to be 1/4" in 2022? Much rather my gig bag be of one type of cable. I'm sure you're all aware of the night and day difference between jog wheels and moving platters for "performance" djs. Only thing platters are cool for is the nudging on beat. For scratching, it's another world. If they drop a platter version, I'm in. And I bought the One last April!

@@djstuc Not nitpicking, it's from actual road experience. 1/4" cables are more exposed and go bad at like 10x the speed of an XLR and they also don't lock at the connection. You also need an XLR for "Link Out" anyways for multiple powered speakers, so what's the point? I live in the Caribbean, and being able to use XLR booth out has been an amazing option for parties where I have to also bring the sound system. Way easier.

@@djstuc same can be said for controllers with moving platters. Doesn't mean the Rane One, or NS7, etc are wrong either. I've had a Vestax VCI 300, Roland DJ 505 and now the One, not to mention Vestax and Rane mixers from the turntable era and most ppl I know use Pioneer products. All I can say is from MY experience working as a DJ and a sound tech that XLR are more reliable, secure, durable, easier to link multiple powered speakers and my preferred output option for any sound gear. That doesn't mean we don't need the others in a pinch, but working day in day out, it's just better. Bless Up!! 👊🎶

This is so damn cool. Do you know if the Stem Split is capable on other hardware with Serato 3.0? I have set up my Djay Pro AI With a 4 channel controller to a similar effect but is super frustrating, unreliable and this implementation is even better than what I thought up, been looking forward to going back to Serato. It just seems like alot of 4 channel controllers would be capable of this. Im actually really excited about hardware videos again. A few reviewers of this unit have been afraid their viewership would see this as confusing but I think alot of DJs are very familiar with club-land set-ups now and can definitely handle a new DJ paradigm especially when it gives them this much power.

I would love to see a review of this in daylight, outside setting. The Rane One is terrible outside. Reason #1 the pad lighting has a 0% opacity in sunlight. Have they improved this?

@@digitaldjtips yes similar to that in terms of the jogs, Pioneer no doubt will make a ddj 1000 stems SRT in response I feel the pioneer version will have a simpler layout, the rane 4 is good but the layout for me just seems too complicated yes with practice you will get used to it, but unlike club gear where there is a standardised layout there this is not the same currently for stems hardware rane has given their take on it. I think the mixer section needs its own section for the stems features so it’s the buttons are all in the same place.

LED screens look incredibly small and pixelated unless it was just blurry camera view. It looks good but way too cluttered. And the Rev 7 is my choice still i gotta have motorized jogs…

Everyone keeps saying it needs motorized jogs, it doesn't. This is a good alternative to the always backordered 1000srt. The platters look like they came from the denon sc6000, if so I'm praying to the dj overlords for a Rane 10 for minimalist setup. It can be done, just remove the screen from the sc6000m lol.

You can choose to have the unit do it "on the fly", or analyse them ahead of time to the stems folder.
