Your insight is always appreciated. Is there any difficulty getting best visual acuity when using advanced monofocal lenses when combined with progressive eyeglasses? I read the following: "The other issue to consider is that if you use the Eyhance lens it will compromise your ultimate vision with eyeglasses. Eyeglasses can make a correction when the diopter amount is off. However, the Eyhance lens has a progressive power change with the radius of the lens. That is how it gets the EDOF effect. It smears the focus point over a range. A good aspheric monofocal like the Tecnis 1 will bring all the light to a single focus point, and will be easier to correct with an eyeglass lens. The contrast sensitivity or MTF will also be higher with the true monofocal." per Dr. Ben LaHood

Interesting, I was considering the Eyhance since the first ophthalmologist I saw was touting it, in that with distance selected as the target, I'd get some intermediate without glasses. The second ophthalmologist suggested I pick intermediate as the target distance, and her office uses Alcon Clareon for standard monofocal. I'm going with her. It took me awhile to come to the conclusion I'm simply going to replicate my current situation, nearsighted needing progressives, only without the cataracts. Progressives are expensive but I figure I won't be changing my prescription often, if at all, with the cataract afflicted lenses gone.

LAL seems ideal but the cost, need for multiple visits, need for UV blocking glasses for weeks makes it not suitable for everyone including me.

I can not say that LAL is an ideal solution. It has certain advantages and still not able to provide nor spectacle independence nor accommodation. It definitely has a great niche and excellent technology inside, but as any lens has certain circle of its patients, no more.

What do you know about the new Tecnis Odyssey Multifocal IOL?

There is not so much data available about the Tecnis Odyssey now, on May 2024, but I have some preliminary info and expectations. The lens is about to replace the well known Synergy (see the review at my channel) and is expected to have better tolerance to the refractive errors and lower night dysphotopcias with high level of spectacle independence copared to current version of Synergy. I'll keep my eye on it, and once more data will be available I'll do a detailed review of the lens.

@@iol-adviser Thank you. My ophthalmologist is the only one using it in my state and he has offered it as an option for me. I trust him, but I always do my own research before making big decisions. It's either the Odyssey or the Symfony or a mix of the two.
