So you can do this without removing the A pillar trim? That saves a lot of trouble. Ingenious sir!

Just a word of caution, carried out exactly to the video, drove about 100 miles and the airbag warning came up on the dash. Puzzled looked up on KZbin any possible known faults , there was one titled dash cam install , it says the nextbase piggyback connector effects the airbag system supply. Could this bizarre but removed the piggy back and the fault cleared . Good luck

Thanks for sharing, I had this car for about 5 years and it never caused any problems, maybe it was the piggy back connection I used wasn’t an issue. I’m just about to do the same fitting in my new L405 2019, I’ll wait to see if it throws up an error code. Appreciate the words of caution. Thanks 🙏

Did you ever have any faults or issues with current being too high from the BMS piggy backing off these fuses?
@agentbarnesgb
@agentbarnesgb 8 ай бұрын
Hi, never had any warning lights for this, lots of other issues with the Range Rover!! but nothing from the dash cam, i've used this same method on other cars i've owned and it's never caused any fault codes etc. Hope that helps. Thanks.

Just wanted to thank you for posting this video - it was extremely useful and allowed me to copy what you did to fit a dash cam to my wife's car. Only observation I've got is that I found that a T40 torx bit was the right size to undo the bolt that you used to get an earth. Thanks again for taking the time to make this video.

Ed Ramsden hi, thanks for the comments, really appreciated, also letting me know about that Torx size, will know to give out the right size if any one else asks. Thanks again.

Just one note of caution, for example if the original fuse was 5amp and the addition fuse for the camera was 5amp and you insert the piggy back adaptor into the socket the wrong way around, the original item you are borrowing the supply will still be protected by a 5amp fuse but the camera will back feed via the +12v supply and the original fuse then feed through to the other 5amp fuse to supply the camera, what this has done is to raise the fuse rating to 10amp (5amp + 5amp) so the camera will have a fuse rating to HIGH. Check what I am saying with a multimeter on ohms and draw out on a piece of paper. So when you remove the original fuse from its holder, before placing any piggy back fuse adaptor in place, check which side is the permanent +12v or IGN +12v depending on what fuse position you choose.

I'm trying to install this, are the fuses the wrong way round in this video? I have a 15amp (came with the piggy back) and a 5amp that was in F52 originally.

@@jonny_stuart Hi. I’ll double check my install, thank you. Here is a diagram that should clarify which way round the fuses should be. Thanks images.app.goo.gl/V2xL74VHxvuFddNV9

@@agentbarnesgb Thanks. I’ve got the fuses in the way as you suggest on the video and the image but it also depends on which way round the piggy back connector goes in. I think there is only room for it to go in with the cable going upwards.

Does the parking monitoring work with this wiring .?
@agentbarnesgb
@agentbarnesgb 8 ай бұрын
Hi, i dont have the car anymore sorry, but from memory the parking monitor didn't work via this fuse as it was an ignition feed, only on when the car was on. You could use a live fuse for that purpose, my only comment for this would be that it drawers from the main car battery, most dash cam's have a feature to only take what charge they need and not leave you with a flat battery! the alternative would be to fit a secondary battery just for the dash cam to run off when parked, i did this on my BMW, there is a video on this on my site. Hope that helps?

Also just as an FYI for anyone else, it’s actually a ‘Micro2’ piggyback not a ‘Micro’. I did the same and ordered a Micro, needed to ‘Micro2’ (longer blades).

Thanks for the video it's much appreciated, my question is that I have a parking monitoring and tampering sensor on my dash cam so can I use the live No49 so it's on standby when vehicle switched off. Thanks
@agentbarnesgb
@agentbarnesgb 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Mark. I’m not 100% sure, however, I’ve fitted a Thinkware dash cam to my BMW with the parking monitoring option and it works well, the Thinkware does have a battery save fail safe, so it doesn’t drain the car battery when it’s switched on when the car is parked, My Roav dash cam in the Range Rover has a parking mode but I’ve never noticed it has been triggered, it certainly doesn’t set off any warning lights (battery drain) like the BMW does. Maybe try the 2 fuses that I mentioned and see how the camera behaves, or email the manufacturer and see what they recommend. Sorry I can’t give you a definitive answer, hope that helps to some degree. Thanks.

@@agentbarnesgb thanks for quick reply, while wife watching soaps 😥😥 I've been doing alot of searching, most say go into the light console above mirror, but does not do live feed it actually has the camera come on via fob and delays switching off like interior light delay. I think live feed you pointed out but I think it will need this to prevent battery drainage a "BlackVue Power Magic Pro Hardwire Kit with Parking Mode Switch and Car Battery" . Thanks once again for your video it helped me to understand connection needed and how to fit. Regards mark.

@@agentbarnesgb I didn’t even know the Micro2 or Micro fuses existed. I can confirm it’s a TX40 piece for the earth, but sadly fuse the fuse tap should really be the other way up (it should only really have one 5A fuse in the place closest to the wire if the fuse slot in the box is vacant) and slot 52 doesn’t allow for the wiretap to be fitted the other way. Otherwise, Discovery 5 is identical and you could re-label your video to include it.

Really useful, thanks so much for taking the time to post this. I'm looking to do exactly the same to mine and it'll save me a lot of trial and error ;) What rating fuse did you for the piggyback? Should it be the same as the one your piggybacking off (5A in this case?) or should it be lower?
