Get yourself a book about pistol shooting! There is so much to know about breathing, sight picture, starting out aiming high and come down.....etc. In your case a Ruger 22/45 would be nice. Training the fundamentals with a .22 makes it so much easier.

I shot on the USMC Rifle Team from 1996 to 2001. I miss competing and like yourself I'm looking to get back in the game with EIC SERVICE PISTOL. I just picked up a Colt Gold Cup National Match, but haven't shot it yet. The CMP also has a couple of other interesting classes. Military & Police service pistol which has a vast listing of approved pistols, even Glocks. Speaking of Glocks we also have a competition for Glocks. Another one I am very very seriously considering competing in is the 22 Rimfire pistol EIC. Which in all honesty would be a good training ground for service pistol EIC. But hey brother keep it up you didn't do any worse than anyone else starting out.

Gunny Jones hey Gunny. I was on the summer pistol team in 2013. Got myself an accuracy x gun and one of the pws guys helped me out a bit figuring out a .22. I am thinking about going to Pendleton for the division matches or maybe back out to lejeune for division and championships.

I have a random rest and haven’t been able to get a Gold Cup to group better than 3 1/3” at 50 yards with 185g JHP Atlanta Arms. The old Golds Cup are much better. I also don’t know why they make a series 70/80... the slide-to-frame fit is poof for a gun that is over $1200. Better off with a standard Range Officer with a tighter bushing to barrel fit and a front strap checkering job. I shot a Gold Cup for a while, but the frame was welded and a KKM barrel was installed to get tighter groups. They also don’t make commercial shirt Gold Cup triggers. I don’t recommend these guns for people dipping their toes in bullseye.

The "best bullseye" .45 ACP isn't factory ammo, nor is it any 230 grain variety. The "best" is a handload used for at least the last 60+ years in competition. I copied it to the letter when I load match grade .45s. H&G #68 200 grain LSWC match grade (Penn Bullets in this case) Mixed cases trimmed 0.888" Alliant Bullseye powder 4.8 grains Winchester WLP primer seated 0.002" below flush COL 1.250" Taper Crimp 0.469" 1" or less at 25 yards out of a capable 1911 and shooter. Also known as the Bill Wilson load.......Wilson Combat John
