I just now installed this antenna. It's a beast. Super beefy when comparing it to not only the Chinese antennas, but also similar ones. Has huge gain. No joke. Gets very clear channels and all the ones that Houston offers from even 70 miles away. Didn't need a signal booster in my install. This would make a great Christmas gift for cord cutters 😂 . I cannot stress enough how good this thing is. NO STATIC. It's like a big net that just captures everything that comes close.

I saw this video and ordered the base model without vhf. Just got it today. As I live in a river valley I wasn't optimistic. Assembly was a breeze. Propped it up on cardboard boxes on my bed pointing at a window in the direction of most channels, 25 miles away behind a bluff. Through a full grown tree against my window. ALL THE CHANNELS CAME IN. I also got six vhf channels from a tower eight miles away at a 90 degree angle. And best of all, I'm getting uhf NBC from 58 miles away with my antenna pointing 110 degrees away from it! This is beyond my wildest hopes! Will be keeping fingers crossed that this isn't just from rare atmospheric conditions. Thanks you so much for this review, antenna man!

Been using this antenna for over a year now, works great! The channels I can receive in my area are 30 - 58 miles away with two Hi-V stations located at 33 miles, 1 VHF in the same location and a few UHF channels 38 - 58 miles away. All but one of these channels are located approximately 52-56 degrees from my home, the other UHF channel is at about 270 degrees. I pick up 45 channels total with signal strength (using the same receiver box he uses in videos) from 53 - 90% signal strength. Picture quality is very good. I do lose one of the channels (58 miles) in the summer when the tree I have the antenna aimed at is filled with leaves. Channel comes back from October to about mid-May. I have a 50' cable coming from the antenna into the house, connects to an RCA Powered splitter, and about 50' more to the box and a much shorter run goes to my Fire TV Recast. I just recently played around a little by adding a smaller RCA Yagi antenna at the UHF station at 270 degrees and I now pull that station in at about 73% (was 53% before). I'm using a passive splitter with matching lengths of RG6 coax. Soon I will be shortening up the run of the cables to a total of about 28'. Hoping that will yield even better results.

I've been researching antennas with Tyler for a couple weeks getting ready to cut the cord. I watched this review and ordered it 10 minutes later. I got the low VHF kit as it was included at a special sale price. After assembly I mounted it on a short pole attached to a fence. Height above ground was about 6'. I roughly pointed it at a cluster of stations at about 45-55 miles. It picked up all 4 UHF plus 1 VHF on channel 6. It picked up another UHF channel 35 miles away at 40⁰ of the antenna axis. Money we'll spent! Thanks Tyler!

*Excellent* antenna! On our West L.A. condo building, it draws in more stations without pixellation than our old huge Winegard with its 10' mast.. It receives 108 sub-channels of all Hi-VHF and UHF stations of normal power on Mt. Wilson, missing only the low-power ch. 8 infomercial/religious station. It's mounted on a J-mast, similar to a satellite dish, only a foot above the Spanish tile roof, without any guy wires. Installation was no problem! One guy climbed a ladder to install it, and the whole installation is so small that it can't even be seen from most areas of the property. I also like the price and that it has no plastic structural parts to crack in the sunshine. As a moderate gain/directional Hi-VHF/UHF antenna, it's perfect.

Awesome! I got your uhf antenna in this video and a separate vhf antenna also from you. The reason for two is that the Boston stations broadcast in UHF and the NH channels from Manchester broadcast in VHF I'm to the west and in the middle of the two cities in Brookline NH and the antennas needed to point in different directions. I set this up today, with a uhf/vhf combiner and a high powered preamp for along coaxial run over a 100ft, 20ft pole in my tripod in my backyard. I know how crystal clear channels of all of the Boston stations as well as the NH stations, 50 channels in all! Thank you for all your help and your customer service!!

I just did a rooftop install of one of these... works very well compared to previous antennas with a small caveat. Previous Antennas: 1. CM4228HD 8-Bay 2. Winegard HD7694A All of my locals are around 15-25 miles away with one channel in hi-vhf and a couple above RF 32 that also gave me reception issues with both previous antennas even with an LTE filter installed 6 inches from the antenna. The XPS-1500 fixed all of these issues and provides max signal strength on all non-low power channels in the general direction it is pointed. Even get acceptable signal strength on a few low power stations in the general direction it is pointed as well. It is more directional than the previous antennas... if you are counting on signals from the back side of the antenna, just buy two, combine them and enjoy solid signal strength from each pointed direction. This antenna could not pick up most of the close stations noted above in the 15-25 mile range from the back side... just something to note. This is a great directional antenna for the money as Tyler has pointed out. Build quality is good, assembly takes a bit of time, but well worth it in my opinion. Will buy another one with a Televes 560483 Dual Input Antenna Preamp Amplifier/Combiner. Hope this helps someone out.

I attached part of a coat hanger, bent slightly outward, to 2 of the wiskers. It had no effect on the distant channel reception but was just enough to bring in the locals just fine! It was trial and error guesswork, not clever engineering! I had tried using a splitter with a 2nd antenna, but that killed my distant channel by reducing the gain on the 8-Bay by 3db. A company Telvees does build an amplified combiner. Tyler reviewed it and it was impressive. I may eventually purchase one. @Antenna Man Thanks for your video. I just got off the phone with those nice guys at Range Xperts. They went over the information on their antenna and found I should be able to get by with their UHF only antenna in my area of Potland, Oregon. I will get it up there 30 ft in the air with new RG6 cable and the RCA Preamp they sell and give you an update as to how it works in my neck of the woods behind this stinking hill. I still think it would be cheaper to salt the hill with gold dust and trick someone into strip mining it down out of my way... Keep doing what you do best.

Scott got me all setup. The UHF antenna from Range Xperts set 28ft in the air and the RCA Preamp they sell, got me full bars on my built in signal meter and 66 channels in the South East Portland, Oregon area. Guess we won't have to get them to strip mine the hill afterall. Thanks for the video.

My wife already made me take down the chimney antenna. I need to get an outside antenna since putting on a metal roof. I wonder if I could mount this below my house peak and get reception. Maybe attach to the middle of the chimney or half way up the back of the roof. I wonder if I set it on top of the chimney, with some of the metal inside the top, run the cable to my basement, if that would work.

Thanks for this review. Here on Delmarva, about everything is on UHF. I may order his UHF-only antenna. I do like the yagi designs over the log periodic designs, especially when I really don't need VHF. I can always hook up a separate VHF antenna for the FM receivers and the EAS decoder we have here. Again, excellent review.. It is definitely going to be taken seriously to influence my decision.
@bigtimepain71862 жыл бұрын
One thing I would like to see you cover, that no one has, is how a directional (Yagi, etc) performs with close transmitters in a different direction. For example, if it is pointed at 0 degrees to stations 40+ miles away, and you also have stations at 90 degrees only 10 miles away - will this antenna work well like that between markets where Omindirectional don't do well due to distance of longer range stations?
@stevebbkny23942 жыл бұрын
Trial and error. Point the antenna to the long distance tower and slowly turn the direction of the antenna to see of you can still catch both. If that’s not plausible than you can install 2 antennas on the same mast pointing in different directions using a combiner/amplifying splitter. I see that very often done in Europe..

The Clearstream 2 with hi VHF element has a very broad beam. I have one mounted to the roof of our RV and have seen it perform exactly as you described in many locations. Aimed at more distant stations it can easily pickup closer stations from various directions, even thru the rear reflector screen.

Hi Tyler, you showed results on this antenna for a high VHF station (WHYY, PBS) but not the low VHF station in the Philadelphia market (WPVI, ABC). Did you try out the low VHF mod from the manufacturer? Curious, because we have a low VHF "problem child" in the Boston market too (WGBH, PBS -- their HD feed), and although we get it without pixelating or buffering pauses on our Tablo's tuner most of the time, it will misbehave when there's something disrupting propagation in the low VHF band. We're actually getting that mostly-decent performance on a small antenna with just a single (high) VHF element (a ClearStream 2V, in our attic). I'm curious whether an antenna like this one would do better, and eliminate the occasional pixelation and buffering we sometimes get on that low VHF signal.
@AntennaMan2 жыл бұрын
I wasn't aware of the low VHF mod until after testing so I didn't try it out with WPVI. WGBH is on low VHF because the station sold out their over the air viewers for $218 million in cash from the FCC. See video below. kzbin.info/www/bejne/fKOpmpVnn8Z1hpI

I am struck by the apparent quality of construction: very little plastic; the tubing appears to be seamless and is run through the boom. You just don't see such things in a consumer product these days.

Impressive antenna. someday I will buy a real antenna for the roof, but for now I'm using a piece of quad core coax with 8 inches stripped bare copper showing taped to a window which faces the TV stations in my area. All in all I receive 33 stations without fallout. Most of the stations are 30-40 miles (line of sight) away but works great. attached to 3 Tv's with splitter without booster.

@johnpoldo88172 жыл бұрын
Most 3-way splitters have 7.5 db loss per port so you lose about 82% of the signal. I suggest you place a 10db amplifier before the splitter to neutralize the splitter loss. As another correctly said, bring you antenna up a notch.

In the Tri-Cities will still have NBC on WCYB - 5 (Bristol VA/TN) although they say they plan on moving to UHF, it has not happened. For some reason they opted to convert their analog channel to digital and stay on 5. This causes reception issues and most "all channel" antennas have only a few low band elements these days...unless you opt for one ten feet long!

I agree with other comments that comparing dissimilar antennas (such as the last two you've tested) isn't as informative as creating categories of antennas tested against each other. For example, this review should maybe be compared against a Stellar Labs or Winegard model.
@AntennaMan2 жыл бұрын
Similar antennas will perform similarly so there's no point on comparing then. I have always and will continue to show the results of the last two antennas I reviewed on the KZbin channel. I don't even have to do this as it takes extra time on my end but I do it anyway. If someone wants to see how other antennas compare they have to check out my other videos - that's how my channel is supported.

Hi Tyler, I bought one of these antennas that I have been testing out here in Shelton, WA, which is on the south western side of the Puget Sound here in WA State. It receives a modest 4-5 stations when the antenna is up at only around 20'. I am using it also at a very short run too. I am wondering if adding a booster or pre-amp would work better. What would be your recommendation? I am planning on taking this antenna with me to the Quartzsite, AZ in January and putting it up on a 25' pole on a temporary mount on my motorhome. I am anxious to hear from you.......Russell D.
