I bet the ending would be slightly different if Knuckles had not decided to use the Chaos Emeralds.Ol' Knux probably wouldn't have won without the Chaos Emeralds, But there is, then again no logic in using them in the first place for something as friendly as a competition. (Sonic using them in Smash Bros. apparently doesn't count, I guess.) In any case, I'd say Applejack won because at least she didn't cheat and tried her best fair and square...Today's Knuckles is about Power and Winning by any means necessary, Even if it kills the competition. It's kind of out of character for him, But I suppose it's in his nature to hurt the first fly that touches the Master Emerald. Applejack would probably win if the competition involved a tournament maybe. If it weren't for the destructive power of the Chaos Emeralds, He probably would not have knocked her out in a single punch. I mean, That's something that normally happens in Pokémon games. The animator was probably just bored. A lot of crazy shenanigans can happen when people get bored.
