I hoped that this game would be free of the pattern of assistance that is associated with Rangers, but of course, I had no real expectation that it would. And so it proved. 2 nil down and needing something to drag them back into the game, Rangers were duly awarded their penalty. Beaton obviously was out of sync with Walsh and rightly thought this wasn’t the opportunity, but Walsh thought differently. This despite the fact that Johnston made contact with the ball, and Silva went down before contact (cf Kyogo being scythed the week before and getting no penalty) Walsh managed to find an angle that did not include Johnstons first touch and Beaton was persuaded…the fact that Silva had demonstrably simulated the whole game. A shameful episode that I will skip for brevity, but one that Rangers as a team seem generally comfortable with. The lack of synchronicity between mutual Rangers fans Beaton and Walsh was again exposed for Rangers ‘equaliser’ - Beaton ignored a blatant foul on Iwata to allow a Rangers attack that subsequently led to the ball ending up in the net. To Beaton’s chagrin however, Walsh correctly observed that as too blatant a transgression and pinged it - faced with video evidence he had no option but to second the goal. So Beaton was honest in the first instance and Walsh re - refereed it and in the second instance Beaton was mendacious and Walsh pulled him back. Walsh is clearly the more subtle of the pair. Despite the assistance, Rangers never led once in the game but paradoxically celebrated afterwards as if it was a victory. Celtic fans by contrast felt as if they had lost, even though the spoils were shared - and indeed they had lost something: faith that the game in Scotland would ever be free of the taint of the statistically established pattern of assistance that seems to accompany Rangers.

So two dubious penalties, an absolute freak goal for Celtics first, some poor defending for rangers second and Celtic third and an absolute worldie for rangers third. Incidentally the VAR official who changed that yellow for Silva to a penalty to Rangers is Nicky Walsh, a man who works as a physio teacher at Boclair Academy in Bearsden Glasgow. This school has an affiliation to Rangers football club bringing up and training potential young players to tryout for a career with Rangers F.C. Their school colors are Red ,white and Blue incidentally. And the man who officiated the game, John William Beaton, just happens to be a big Rangers fan. He was filmed drinking in the Crown bar in Glasgow after refereeing a derby game with fellow Rangers supporters. There is also a Rangers supporters club in Glasgow named after him. As they say in the USA "go Figure"

Funny to hear Boyd saying the Rangers penalty was a stonewaller when, during the game, he was saying how Silva was throwing himself about was embarrassing the team. I'm with Lenon - never a penalty. Beaton got it correct in real-time. VAR has ushered in the era of "dishonest mistakes" in football because without VAR, we have no option but to accept every error as an "honest mistake". Now we actually see the ref get it right, only to be told to go and take another look whereby the VAR operator has had the time to construct a misrepresentation of what actually happened by displaying it in non real-time, ultra-slow, slow motion which makes it appear hyper-real which results in the referee having his mind changed. The whole time of this we - the viewer - are watching the same hyper-real version of reality and maintaining a link to how it unfolded in real-time and literally watch the ref make a dishonest mistake. The entire VAR system is a complete joke, as to be someone having a laugh at everyone's expense. Get rid of VAR and get back to honest mistakes because, right now, the game is being ruined by VAR and it's only happening because someone is making money out of the technology.

However, was a penalty, but also on you view of penalty not given by the ref, that is because Scottish refs are using VAR to ref the games. For the disallowed goal, the ref seen it and played on, so can't have it both ways.
