DazL Elite Not true. The club picked up the RC myth in the 1950s. Sir Mat and jimmy Murphy we’re big catholic’s but that’s as far as it went. The club was then owned by the Edwards family who were Jews until it was sold to the Glazers (more Jews) at the time of Busby the team was a mixture of both faiths and the iconic line of Best Law and Charlton all being Protestants. religion was never a real feature of football in Manchester. I went to a large Protestant school within walking distance from Old Trafford and there was only a handful of city fans in the whole school. I remember times in the 1970s whenever there was a lull in the game and you’d get half the Stratford end chanting Celtic and the other half Rangers but no one really gave a fuck it was just a bit of amusement and everyone really only committed to United. As for United hating Rangers well that’s no more true than United hating Spurs or Wolves. The only clubs that are the pet hates of United fans are Man shity, Liverfool and Leeds. All the rest are just other clubs. Though I and many other United fans have a soft spot for either Rangers or Celtic and for me it’s always been The Gers. Cheers!
