Good stuff... I have been using the cotton ball and vaseline for years. A couple of pointers on preparing and using the balls. It is best to use warmed, liquid, vaseline to fuse with the cotton balls. If that is not available simply rub the ball with vaseline in your hands until warm. When using the balls, take a small piece , each ball will make 6 to 8 fires, pull it apart till it is a fiber ball. This will burn for about 2 minutes and can be lite very easily with a flint and striker.

Not only would this kit be easy to assemble with times we ALL have on hand, but it seems to lend itself to a great deal of variation! For example, if you scale the lighter down to a Bic Mini, you probably *can* use the 1" Gorilla Tape. Clever paracord users can easily create a more complex and useful lanyard in between. The cord can easily be strung through the ring of a Swiss Army knife, the chain of a magnesium striker, or the lid of a match safe carrying the storm matches you've already shown us how to chop up (like an Exotac Matchcap XL). And of course, the advantages of dryer-lint cubes and other tinder have already been stated below.

Pro gamer move: Make the paracord long enough to wear as a necklace, in sub freezing temperatures this will allow your body heat to keep the butane in your lighter from freezing.
@Crogon3 жыл бұрын
Better off kepping it in your front pant pocket. WHile your head and feet are the warmest part of your body, your crotch is also designed to radiate heat. I'd be more concerned with the chapstick melting than the butane freezing. I think I would have left that tape a bit longer, to hold the cap on.

A little late to the show so this may have already been mentioned but, if you have used up your last bit of cotton ball, you can also use the "guts" of your length of 550 paracord as a tinder source. Additionally, you could also substitute the 550 for a similar length of jute or hemp twine for the same reason. When "fluffed up", they make fantastic tinder or bird's nest material. Your Ranger Lighter is a great project. Cheap, most items can be found around the house, no special tools required, about 5 minutes "work" and you've effectively doubled your chance of lighting a fire in less-than-ideal conditions than just using the lighter alone. 👍 Cheers and all the best from Nova Scotia 🇨🇦

If you take some of that spongy wood and dig a hole in the soil and put that spongy wood in the hole and cover it up with dirt and build a fire on top of that dirt you will be making "char tender" which will take a spark from flint and steel when recovered from the hole in the soil it will make a hot coal to put in a tender nest or bird nest and be blown into flame. It's a lot of fun to practice all primitive fire skills. But there is a learning curve.

Putting a small zip tie around the button of the bic lighter prevents your lighter from losing its fuel and can be removed and replaced once zipped, clipping the extra length makes it a little sharp though can be filed to prevent cuts. Plus the adhesive sticker is also flammable, once you have a empty lighter if the wheel is removed slowly the springs can be made into a snare & fishing hook and the childproof metal can be removed and can also be made into a fishing hook.

I came over your channel and am impressed with what I have seen sofar. I have various lighters ect around and I used your method but added jut-twine to the lighter side. I have made up to 1 for the great outdoors and the other EDC. Many thanks for this video. Just subbed!!!

Great vid. Pry out the child proof guard in case of cold weather and reduced motor skills.

I just made one, but used bright yellow paracord with reflective tracer in it for added visibility. Thanks for the idea!

If you have the space like in a backpack or a vehicle fill a bottle with a mixture of gasoline and styrofoam and it turns into a very flammable sticky sludge. You can spread a little bit on the bottom of logs and other larger pieces and it'll burn for a long time without the need to gather a bunch of kindling.

Ya, it's disappointing to watch one that the guy moves to fast. So this IS nice . ESPECIALLY WHEN PEOPLE SHOW KNOTS WITH TARPS .🤠🖖
