I take a few nails in my bush kit too. I also take a few flat head screws that will suit a 1/8th" drill bit. My drill bit has a washer bronze brazed on the chuck end to be used by hand. I have 3 holes predrilled into my makeshift awl and I keep the awl needles taped on the side. If they get loose I use a little cloth or tape to tighten the fit. I like 60lb grey fishing braid as its a good size for repairs as well as fishing and trap triggers. I have a even sided ss throwing knife that I cut down and drilled two holes in it so I can fashion it to a spear pole with the screws. I just saw a slot in top. Its useful as its a scandi grind too. A short piece of conduit heated and slipped over the concave shaft makes a good handle too. The pommel is a 90° point that comes in handy. 'Thank you Andrew'... for helping me to look after myself better in the bush, from the smallest things to the most cunningly stealthy. 💜👍 Universal Sovereign Citizen

I was an AFOSI Special Agent in about mid 1974 I arrested a young airman for selling heroin. Searched him, turned him over to a security policeman for confinement and went home. No more than walked in the door and I get call on the radio saying you prisoner is dead...to shorten the story....he took a GI pen and drove it into his temple with his hand, wiggled it around a bit inside his brain and that was that. Not sure where the pen came from, but yes, they are deadly weapons.

I carry seven tea light candles in a 5 1/2" long by 2 1/8 diameter pill bottle with a cotton round between each one and one on the top candle so that if that wax gets too warm and melts a bit in my pocket or pack then this isn't a mess in the pill bottle and the rounds can be used as a fire extender. Rubbing the round on top of the candle just before you're planning on using it will impregnate some (or more) wax into the round by friction. You can also melt a small cotton ball or cotton round (trimmed down to fit into the candle) to use a fuel for an Esbit folding stove; you can use up to three at a time and you will get about a 2-3" flame off each one and about a 20 minute burn time! Unlike a wood fire, there is almost no smell off the candles! An easier way to make a aluminum foil cup is to use two layers and shape it around the end of a stick or can or even your fist, then roll the excess at the top to stiffen the cup. This also gives you a flatter bottom for more stability. If you have some semi-stiff wire available you can shape a cup holder for your aluminum cup for greater strength! Using a multi-tool pliers will make this much easier. A better way to make a dew catcher is to suspend your plastic sheet above the ground, place a small clean stone in the center and place a clean container (cup, can, etc.) beneath under the center. This way you will get condensation on top of the plastic where the rock is and also some condensation dripped into your cup! Love your videos, thank you!

I've never had much luck with folded foil. Even if it's heavy duty, and I try not to put too many folds, I still wind up with pin size holes when unfolded. Lately I've been making 2 or 3 folds lengthwise, and then wrapping the foil around my canteen cup. So far it's working better than all the folding, but it does get in the way a bit. Any suggestions?

Here is a cooking pot I came up with to fit in a wallet. Cooking Pot Rich “Raspy” Shawver Here is an idea that I picked from Origami. Start with very heavy foil. Like those disposable oven liners the ones that look like a cheap cookie pan not simple heavy duty foil. Take a piece 13 X 13 inches. Clip a ½ X ½ inch square out of each corner. Fold each edge ¼ inch twice to form a rim. Fold so the rim will be on the outside. This gives a 12-inch square. Now you need to put in the creases to form the box. Fold in 1/4 or 3 inches of one end and crease. Do the same for the other side. Unfold and rotate 90 degrees. Take the other two sides and repeat the creases. This forms a crease pattern of a 6-inch center square 4 3-inch squares at the corners. The sides are then 3 X 6 inches. Now you fold the large square diagonally. But you only need to crease the portion that crosses the corner 3 X 3 square at the corners. For carrying you fold in the 4 sides to form a 6-inch square and the fold it in half. This gives a packet 3 X 6 inches, which happens to be approximately the size of a dollar bill. Making just right to slip into the bill compartment of a wallet. To set up you unfold the packet. Using the diagonal creases you form triangles at each corner. These start at the base of the box and extend out 3 inches at the top. Two of these triangles are then folded along the same side. The other two are folded along the opposite side. The tops of these triangles are tucked under the folded under the rims to help hold them in place. Making the box more ridged. This gives you a 6 X 6 inch pan 3 inches deep. The box is 108 cubic inches or almost 60 fluid ounces. Which is just 4 ounces shy of 2 quarts. Since you won’t fill it to the rim call it a quart and a half of usable space. Not bad for something that fits into a wallet. You can also slip a couple of paperclips over the ends to make it even more solid. Yes, repeated folding and unfolding plus the wear and tear from the friction in a wallet will eventually open holes and cause leaks. And once it has been used in a fire it will accelerate the deterioration. But because of the heavier gauge of the pans they last much longer than regular aluminum foil. I’ve gone through a couple both carrying and testing. They have lasted for several years or a half a dozen or so reuses before they became iffy. Yes regular sheet of heavy foil is a bit more compact but the heavier pan sheet will stand more abuse and last longer.
