@@cookiecaptain5006 Unfortunately, BES need a little bit more than just one field spell to be saved. They are still vulnerable, because spells and non-target, non-destruction removal is still a thing. They need, as Rata said, lower-level support in the form of tribute-fodder and backup. I've always floated around the idea of a card called "B.E.S Regenerator Core", a level 1 monster that could be special summoned if you have a BES monster or BEF on the field, is protected from all destruction so long as a BES is on the field and that would give 1 counter to every BES on both standbys, forcing the opponent to hard-target B.E.S monsters if they ever hope to beat them, because getting only one shot in on them per-turn would just mean they get it back on the next standby anyway. An easy tribute-fodder at worst, a play-extender at best.

To be fair though, in YuGiOh GX they acknowledge that Dark Scorpions are bad. In the anime they were card spirits whose cards were discarded because no one wanted them, they chose to become antagonists in order to prove that they can be useful... Edit: Missed opportunity to grade the Venom archetype based on: Handleability, Care, Hardiness, Availability, and Upfront Costs...

The whole idea behind the counter mechanic with BES monsters is that the counters represent their core shields, which are those walls you see in between the pylons on Big Core. Because these monsters are big capital ships and can't avoid enemy fire for shit, every time they battle a monster they take damage, which in turn means one of those walls is destroyed. It's not a very good effect but it's a really neat way of representing the boss fight mechanics from Gradius in a card game.

Add some Machina support Focus on the Plant, Machine, and up to 2 other Generaid monsters Throw in the level 9 B.E.S. cards Grab the generic level 9 support that came out a while ago. And thrown in what you can or want from the World Legacy lore level 9s And you have a not unplayable level 9 deck. And Boss Rush makes deck thinning easier

A retrain of Boss Rush, that activates on B.E.S. leaving the field, not destruction, a extra deck monster, a way to circumvent boss rush's no normal summoning, and a searcher, any combination of these on what we have currently and B.E.S. becomes somewhat playable

Double Special Summon from the graveyard with discarding cost to make up for it seems like something that´d be widely useful for Venoms to hit the field more quickly than 1 or 2 each turn. It would be great if Venominaga Turbo became a viable comp deck. Maybe some Ancient Gear-like condition ignoring for Venominon. Or a strong retrain.

Yeah no kidding. Just give them a larger monster lineup that make use of counters or have more counter generation and this would be a legit pretty good archetype. Their boss monsters are surprisingly great on paper but lack the swarming capability needed to make that "on paper" power an "in practice" power.

Actually you know what I just realized? Someone's probably mentioned this already, but a thing I learned recently actually makes the BES 'die from fighting too long even if winning' thing make sense. It doesn't make it BETTER, but there's a reason for it. In most Gradius games, bosses have a 'timeout' limit. In essence, if you survive long enough against them, they either die or run away. You can just live long enough against Big Core and it'll go away on its own.

@@pokemon18651 genex only viable (or at least average) because its splashability to many strategy because it cover so many attribute (and even can change it), variety of effects (some like naturia, some like flamevell), and sheer amount of cards printed for them (40+) They literally is vehicroid on crack. With no clear playstyle direction (because of 3 revisions, with some cards is questionable, and most of 3rd edition is just bad), which mainly only 1 playstyle is acceptable way by being used as synchro engine for trishula. While Venom is just bad because they have not enough cards, while have all the base requirements for good deck: clear playstyle direction, support card which support those playstyle, good boss monster, etc. The only thing they dont have is just some more good cards to complement those playstyle (and turbo their boss monster).

Some examples of names I have are Camula the Shadow Vampire, Titan the Shadow Archfiend, And the Dark Scorpions would be a single monster called the Shadow Burglars, With *SPOILER ALERT* Professor Banner being represented by a field spell that among other things would have the Alchemy Beasts in the artwork. While Kagemarou would be a spell that allows the special summoning of the Sacred Beasts while also giving them protection.

Actually did the same thing back in the day. But I think Reptiles could serve as a counter intuitive (pardon the pun) type that relies upon alt win conditions and counter based control. Venom only needs a handful of cards to be effective and would make for a deck that run slower long game strats rather than extra deck focused engines, something the game is in desperate need of.

Idea for Dark Scorpions is make older versions of the cards (like they gained more experience/trained etc) and have them have higher attack values, a field spell and more trap and spells. Like our Lord and savior said the cards have personality and I would like to see them return. Maybe have a field spell where cards removed by their effects banish and that attack directly but do a set amount of damage or something. Idk

DBI Something you can do now is play it with gravekeepers or the Marik Strucutre deck. Necrovalley locks all the cards they discard into the graveyard, and they have plenty of removal and attack reductions to allows scorpions to attack directly or weaker monsters. Plus all of them are

My thoughts would be give them a field spell (probably called something like 'Hideout of the Dark Scorpions') that gives one of a set of effects at the start of their turn, 1 to improve their attack power to run over smaller weaker monsters, one that halves their attack but lets them attack directly, and the last being, and the last effect letting them apply their effects twice but returning them to the hand after there effects are done. also upgrade don-zaloog into being a true dark scorpion with a stronger stat line but similar effect. likely called Don Zaloog, Master of the Dark Scorpions, with its effect letting its name be treated as don Zaloog on the field. as well as the upgraded counterparts of the other dark scorpion monsters that are treated as being all their respective monsters, with a fusion version of burglers that is stronger callled "Dark Scorpian Master Burglers" with a potent effect to banish cards face down from the opponents deck or set them on the scorpion players field as spells and traps(representing them now actually stealing your stuff). of course, to keep with the theme of the dark scorpions being somewhat inept burglers, at least 1 of the cards could have the downside of setting traps to your opponents field, but giving a strong benefit to compensate for the downside.

I do like the ideas for rebooting these decks. What I'd do is create more counter support in General (hopefully Konami will do this, as they gave Geminis and now Spirits a boost) and power creep hand discarding by making it so that whatever cards you made your opponent discard from the hand either have their effects negated or be banished.

Actually, they're pretty damn usable if you focus on Victory Viper 3 or whatever. United We Stand and such combined with its ability to create _perfect copies of itself_, stat-wise anyway, leading to absurd damage values if it gets rolling. Main issues is consistency and the fact that their other tricks are pretty lacking, but man those things can be powerhouses if you don't respect them.

It doesn't list the archetype by name, but Offering to the Snake Deity is *obviously* also Venom support, it's an Icarus Attack that works on Reptiles and you're clearly (given its name and artwork) meant to combo it with Vennominon and Rise of the Snake Deity to summon your win condition while also breaking the opponent's board. This play is so obvious, in fact, that it's pretty much the entire point of Thelonious' story deck in Legacy of the Duelist (that and Reptilianne synergy, which most people are well aware of).

How's this for a new Venom Field Spell? Venom Wasteland: When a monster(s) is Special Summoned to your opponent's side of the field, place Venom Counters on them, up to the amount of monsters summoned. Each monster with a Venom Counter loses 500 ATK for each and has its effects negated, also, if its attack goes below 0, banish it. Once per turn: Send a Reptile-Type monster from your Deck to the Graveyard. When this card is destroyed, add one "Venom" card from your Deck to your hand.

I used gradius the level 4 light machines with Luminous Spark, Solidarity, and the best equip spell gravity blaster, their specific support is garbage, but they can snowball pretty easily, and I throw in Reflect Bounder as the "pilot"

as far as counters go, the only 2 decks that make good use of counters, at least on a competitive or casual level, are Kaijus (If you play a build that uses their field spell), and Six Samurais when gateway was at 1.

Useless fact about venom counters if you didn't know, you CAN actually put venom counters on a venom monster, and it does get it ATK lowered if venom swamp is on the field. If you give the control of your venom monster to your opponent and use venom shot. You can envenom your venom monster. Tested it in master duel yesterday. Since no venom monsters have the clause "This monster is unaffected by Venom Swamp's effect" or venom swamp having the clause "Monsters with venom in their name or card text are unaffected to the Effects of this card". I was curious and determined to find out if it was possible. Maybe they thought venom mirror match was going to be a thing 😂

Great Video. I actually got in the game in the time Dark Scorpions were created and later in that sweet period before TeleDAD. Back then , I used to run an Alien deck focused on bringing Vennominaga out. It was actually pretty fun and I got to give a nasty susprise to many of my opponents. Then as the Aliens got decent support to stand on their own and in the dawn of the Duel Terminal, I worked out a Vennominaga deck using Worms as fooder for the deity. The whole strategy relied in using Future Fusion to cram the graveyard with Worms and then summon Vennominom. This way I put th pressure since it was either Vennominaga or a fully powered Worm Zero hitting the field. Again, it was lots of fun but with Future Fusion's banning everything came crashing down.

I remember when Don Zaloog was released. Basically every single deck splashed in a copy of him because he was generically searchable and the discard effects were literally some of the most disruptive effects in the game at the time - as you stated at the time there was little graveyard interaction so once something was discarded it was pretty much gone.

When you think about it, isn't there already a great archetype that (partly) focuses on counters? Six Samurais rely on their counter cards to do their combos. In fact their counter cards were designed with monster spamming in mind.

I played a ton of Venom in Tag Force 3. I made some cards for them in my spare time. I'd say some are just kind of fun, but they may address some problems. Venom Constrictor: A Level 4 Reptile Effect Monster with 1500/1000. When normal or special summoned, you may target a monster your opponent controls. While either is on the field, neither can attack. At the end of your turn, place 1 Venom Counter on 1 monster your opponent controls. Venom Hatchling: A Level 1 Reptile Effect Monster with 500/500. When this monster is destroyed by battle, place 1 Venom Counter on the monster that destroyed it and Special Summon 1 "Venom" monster from your deck or graveyard. Venom Viper: A Level 5 Reptile Effect Monster with 2000/2000. If a monster on the field has at least 1 Venom Counter on it, you can special summon this monster. Monsters with Venom Counters cannot attack. Venom Den: A Continuous Spell. You can only control 1 "Snake Den" at a time. Once per turn, you can special summon "Venom" monsters whose total level is equal to 5. If you do, you cannot normal summon this turn. Slithering: A Normal Spell. You can only activate the effect of "Slithering" once per turn. Add 1 card with "Venom" in its name from your deck to your hand, and send 1 monster with "Venom" in its name from your deck to the graveyard. Hollow Fangs: A Counter Trap. The way you are describing it, it seems to be generic reptile support. Of course generic reptile support is good in a reptile deck. If it doesn't have Venom in it's name or specifically mentions venom somewhere in it's effect it's not part of the venom archetype.

That's not a "venom" card archetype card same thing but he did forget about their trap called snake deity offering. Its effect is that u can destroy one monster u control and a monsters from your opponents field destroy them both. This trap made it so u can use it on venominon

If Venom monsters included some more deck dumping effects that don’t have effects that build up things. Could include some recovery options like “remove any number of Venom counters on the field, special summon the same number of Venom monsters from your graveyard.” That way it doesn’t have overpowering danger. Add some of these effects that let you place venom counters and protect the field spell. Maybe even some cards that prevent opponents from using certain monsters as materials if they have enough Venom counters on them to keep them as attack targets on the field. Don’t even need to make stronger Venom monsters as their gimmick is bringing them down to your level instead of bringing you up to theirs.

Using venom counters as tribute fodder would be brilliant. Not too generic, obviously but you get the point. Monster lockdown for ED types would also work well (something like Fossil Pachy, not too strong but disruptive enough that forces getting rid of it).

In theory, a crossover between Venoms and Aliens might be decent Both being or at least having reptiles Call the new support Alien ___ of/with Venom And the key support piece Make it a Tuner, or let it function as a Poly on legs Or search any and every card in the deck. Alien Venom. It would likely be a spell. But Venom Alien could be the monster equivalent
