I second this. If you even want a slight taste of that 200hp, you'll be higher in the rev range going absolutely stupid speeds on the road. You could argue a supernaked would be more practical on the road, but I tried a Superduke and the torque on that thing was also far too much for the road in my opinion. I currently own a Duke 890 R, which is considered to be the goldilocks street bike, but I even think that bike is too fast for the street. As soon as you start having some fun, you're going over twice the speed limit already. Bonkers.

I would try and borrow or hire a 1000 for a week or just a weekend. The constant fueling and the prices ('bigger tanks') will disappoint you very quickly. The bloody thing was constantly pawing the sky and didn't really need 6 gears.. 3 gears was enough. Don't get me wrong it was laugh inducing but.. The running costs and higher insurance broke the deal for me. If budget is not an issue for you then buy one but i, myself can live without one happily. And besides wheres the challenge in just pulling away from everyone on the straight bits if you can't go round corners faster too. Nah I'll stick with my 6 and keep my licence longer too. Go try one though at least..

Don't forget that for the Roadside Assistance, BMW does NOT charge any deductibles unlike all other roadside assistance programs from all other motorcycle brands; such as Ducati, which ONLY gives you "up to" $200 to have a tow truck pick you up as part of the roadside assistance. You have to pay everything else after that. So, if you get stuck on a tour and the nearest Ducati or other exotic dealership is 150(or more) miles away you are screwed. But, there is NO limit distance for BMW. They pay for ALL of the towing no matter the distance ! That is considered a true 5 Star Service to the 'conscious intelligent man'...

Bought a 22 S1K RR; sold it in less than 6 months. Rides well; EASY to ride but gave me issues from the start. Engine died twice on me while i was at an intersection and turning. This could have been deadly. Handle bar vibrates like crazy, unstable at high speeds; and plastics feel extremely cheap. Suspension is smooth and its a fast bike, but its very unreliable. My water pump failed not even 2 weeks of ownership and the bike was in the shop for over a month. Recommend Japanese bike or if you can afford it; the Panigale V4s. 18,500 miles on my Ducati and not a single issue. 2021 Panigale V4s.

I used to race (so I think I’m a reasonably decent rider) and I wouldn’t buy a 1000 for the road. Too expensive for something I’d never be able to really ride and enjoy without going to a track. Great summary of a bunch of bikes that are bordering on being irrelevant for road use. I do love sports bikes. Had several including zx7r, '04 Fireblade and a '15 S1000RR. Whilst the 7R wasn't setting the world alight with power, it was a great road bike. Satisfying to ride on road and track. The Fireblade felt on the limit of what power was remotely possible to use on the road. The RR tipped the balance and got rid within 6 months. Ironically, superb electronics and insane power, combine to make a bike that is video-game easy to just pin the throttle. Whilst this does allow the rider to focus on everything else, it doesn't stop the fact that you find yourself in two polar opposite ends of road riding: left feeling that you're pootling about using half revs and quarter throttle, or, you begin to feel that you're stretching it's legs, arriving home thinking - how am I (or others) still in one piece and will I be getting a brown envelope in the post in next two weeks ...worse, a knock on the door. let's have some great handling, usable sports bikes for the road that we can use and can afford.

What I find interesting is the tuner shops that with no parts changed just stop the fly by wire butterflies closing at the top end with some reprogramming of the ecu and release so much power from the stock Japanese bikes. The Japanese bikes nearly all limit their own power with this method. I guess they have a reason? Just having that fixed by an ecu reprogrammed puts them back up with the European bikes power outputs.

Having ridden most of these bikes and being 170cm high, the Aprilia RSV4 is by far my favorite for the road and the track.

I’ve had a 18 gsxr1000r and now a rsv4 factory, and honestly just pick the one you can afford and like the looks and sound the best.

Zx10r definitely the best road riding bike here. It’s so good on the road

R1 looks and sound 😍

This guy is a joke. Your gripe on the zx10 is the brakes of all things? Do a test, I bet it has some of the best in the whole category. Say you never actually rode the Zx10 without saying you never road the zx10

I’ll take the cross plane crank R1 ,..actually an MT10 SP did it for me.

Waiting for delivery of the MT10 standard version. Can't wait to put on an aftermarket exhaust and release that cross plane crank sound!

I miss the days of late 90's Japanese 600s... :D An awesome bikes to ride around with your friends after watching Akira. Infinitely easy to ride, mod, and own, and have fun with.

Thanks for this it has confirmed to me the BMW s1000rr sport is the best road going and value sports bike. It has by far the best usable tech. Add to this 3 years warranty, road side assist and up to 5 years fixed price servicing. Looks great as well.

Michael, don't forget that for the Roadside Assistance, BMW does NOT charge any deductibles unlike all other roadside assistance programs from all other motorcycle brands; such as Ducati, which ONLY gives you "up to" $200 to have a tow truck pick you up as part of the roadside assistance. You have to pay everything else after that. So, if you get stuck on a tour and the nearest Ducati or other exotic dealership is 200 miles away you are screwed. But, their is NO limit distance for BMW. They pay for ALL of the towing no matter the distance ! That is considered a true 5 Star Service to the 'conscious intelligent man'...

I'm happy you said this, about the k67 bmw s1000rr sport.. being your number 1 bike.. given all the above details etc mentioned 😀 this is why i decided to buy the m1000r last year..still have both bikes today and always smiling..never been on a track..so some might say these bikes are wasted having not been used on a track

Gsxr for the reliability, these bikes are pretty much indestructible and they are cheap to fix and maintain.
