To be honest, the purple and red helmet at the end of first class wasn't the problem, it was the costume itself. Looked like gap clothes he threw together. The helmet didn't fit with the lean look of the cape and Fassbender's build. If they added some shoulder pads and a cape holder, it would look much better. It should've been more armored, after all Magneto's comic costume is based on Roman gladiators, so a bit of armor wouldn't hurt. The black and silver version looked so good on him because Fassbender's X Men suit had broader shoulders, making the helmet look even with the costume

If they'd coloured that outfit like the Ian McKellan ones (including dulling down the sheen on the helmet), and built up the shoulders more, it would have been perfect.

I’m 22 seconds in and already disagree 😂 I freaking love his DOFP helmet, I think it’s the coolest looking one and I love the stoney-metal feel to it

Personaly, except for Apocalypse's helmet, I like to think that it's always the same helmet he took on Shaw, that he constantly redesigns (Magneto is some kind of artist in my opinion!). I agree with you on the two first helmets though, but I like the one in Days of future past. It remembers that time has passed, and a lot wasn't on screen.

I personally like comic book accuracy in superhero films, but I respect your opinion about the red/purple helmet. And some good points at that. :) In terms of the film universe, Dark Phoenix Black is the same two helmets from First Class, but Fassneto kept it hidden only as a backup in case one of his other helmets he created got lost or destroyed or were unnecessary. But he didn't use it for a while until Dark Phoenix, that's why it looks worn and all black. Or the filmmakers probably ran out of ideas for another Magneto helmet that didn't look dangerously close to the Ian McKellen versions, which DOFP & Apocalypse were slowly turning into if you look very closely at the V shape around both helmets.They look like they're sticking out like the McKellen versions. First Class Silver helmet will always be numero uno imo. :D

I like the Days of Future Past helmet, it looks like it was the original but covered in iron, the Xmen 2 is amazing, I also like the black one from Dark Phoenix but the one from First Class is the most comic book accurate

I totally disagree about the saying: There are costumes that looked great on paper and don't look as good on screen. That's for two reasons; One, they may had followed the comics' costume but they did not take the effort of refining it. Two, granted they followed the costume, the star doesn't looked similar or their physique is not as great from the character in the comics. Imagine if Dolph Lundgren did a couple of work out to be able to at least weigh 220 pounds and put some muscle padding in it. That magneto spandex would really looked great on him.
