Well, it happened. This is now the most viewed video on my channel! I honestly did not expect so many views all of a sudden, and even though I'm a little late for Thanksgiving, I can say that I'm very thankful for all the support I've gotten on this video. Since I can't make community posts, I'll ask a question here. Should I make another ranking video like this one some time in the future? If so, what should I rank? Ranking videos are fun to make, but I feel like I should get some input before making another. Again, thanks a lot everyone, I really mean it

For one thing, congrats on landing a combo on every single beat. I've beaten the game, but I couldn't do all of these no matter how much I practiced. This was a great video! For another... hm, not sure what other rankings you could do. Just concerning Mother 3 stuff, maybe you could rank all enemies and/or bosses by difficulty. Or rank battle songs just by how much you subjectively enjoyed each one, because some are just fine for what they are, and others are legit masterpieces.

Yea idk why there are only 3 combo sounds either, it not only makes 16 hit combos less satisfying but makes combos harder for 80% of the songs due to the way the character instruments adjust for speed. Maybe they didn't have the space for the sound files, the game does push the hardware to its limit in terms of sound design.

Just fact-checked this using the ACTUAL SEQUENCES FROM THE ROM and yes, it's true! I actually never noticed that! The BPM goes from 168 to 158 for a measure, and then returns to 168 again. I thought it was just Porky's Porkies that did this.

For some reason I've always struggled with Back Beat Battle. I think it's because it kind of has an "off-beat" rhythm that makes it sound like you're trying to go for something else. Anyone else have the same struggle?

Fun fact! You can actually combo to It Is Finished. Of course, without hacking this is impossible, but with some pretty simple cheats you can get into an encounter with two foes and have the leader be the Masked Man, which causes It Is Finished to play; then, you just try and combo the other guy.

I know it’s also possible to get the heartbeat by sleeping the other guy. I’ve seen it be done before with strong one masked man. I’ve never heard it with Absolutely Safe Capsule, Battle against the Masked Man, or It Is Finished. I want to hear them though I don’t know how to get the debug menu though, since I play Mother 3 on a 3DS (it’s complicated, I don’t feel like explaining it)

I was doing some combos of Battle Against the Masked Man, and I learned that the beat for the song actually goes into half time during a distorted version of the love theme for about 16 beats or so. I’m fairly certain this is the only tempo change in the entire song, and only makes the song more difficult if you’re trying to 16-hit combo the song Also, even after the turn the Masked Man attacks Flint, you’re still able to combo the song until the flashback

One thing i hate about disscusion of this Fight is that nobody talks about how great of a Storytelling choice it is that Lucas can attack after Claus hurt his dad Which you as the Player are suppossed to do after all Hinawa tells BOTH Boys to stop fighting!

My emulator had a problem with audio sync so I had to learn to combo using difficult syncopated offbeats but it was very satisfying to pull off

use mGBA and if your hardware is capable enough, use both Audio and Video sync. It is worth the extra audio crackling (unless it's undoable due to slow hardware)

I always found Fate/Serious to be one of the easier combos to pull off, the only issue is the VERY LOUD AND OBVIOUS 4/4 percussion at the end of the theme that, despite being the beat, isn't the heartbeat.

if I'm really paying attention, I can pretty consistently get 4 hit combos on almost any piece, but anything beyond that is pretty much outside the scope of my capabilities, idk if my simulator screws up the beat timing a bit or if I just suck in general, but frankly just spamming PK Love n' Freeze seemed to work out ok in the end

BUT I will say playing on a keyboard with a emulator did NOT help most likely. so yeah, I can say this was an aspect of the game I didn't really dive into much. didn't realize at ALL how in depth it can get with timing some of these. even if you don't like the music, you gotta admit it's well composed for the purpose of the game itself.

I know it's too late, but your Even Drier Guys combo is so good. 🤤 Seems to be in C minor, correct me if wrong. Got the best Lucas Keytar variation, started at the beginning of the measure with 2 beats so the legato could be heard on the next 2 beat measure, AND the melody allowed to finish from a G to a C for resolution. It's beautiful.

I know this isn't common knowledge but Strong One and Strong One (Masked Man) are not in their respective 15/8 and 29/16 timesignatures! Those are only rough approximations of what is actually going on with this song. It's actually 4/4 with crazy tempo changes that give you this weird sounding song. Amazingly because of this the heartbeat is actually quarter notes all the way through. you know, when I first played mother 3 some 10~ years ago I had no music knowledge other than that I liked listening to it. Coming back after playing several instruments and doing digital stuff extensively for the better half of the decade and also a real love of odd time signature stuff and changing tempos and timesigs! - I find myself... frustrated by the combo system. Even with my musical experience I have admittedly pretty bad tempo keeping, which I admit readily. But the combos and the sound effects that play with them feel so so wonky to me. I used to think it was me just messing them up; frustrating, but a real skill issue! Now, I just feel it's implemented pretty badly and is pretty arbitrary and honestly a bit poorly implemented, which is more frustrating than if it was just my fault! also I understand why they're simple because programing video game music is a pain and a half with hardware, but the inserted extra off-time parts in the advanced versions of songs are pretty lame. These songs would sound great if an extra few beats were added in that extended the motif, but it's always just a weird melodic / drum fill that reads as a musical nonsequiteur. Oh welll

An older version of the translation patch only had one version of Duster's bass, and there's an updated version that added the others.

@@ender691 The actual bug is that Duster only used one of his several variations of his bass combo sound (this bug was also present in the Japanese version as well oddly enough). The English 1.2 and 1.3 versions and onwards have since fixed this, so all of his bass sounds are audible.

IDK if this makes me weird, but I've always found middle-tempo songs to be easier then slow. For example, I find astonishing march, dangerous guys, tragic reconstruction, intense guys and fight with mecha dragon to be way harder than back beat battle or mischievous blues, with astonishing march and intense guys being the easiest songs for me. I also disagree with putting the ghost classicals and etude for ghosts so high up, as I found them very easy.

I think Bothersome Guys is too high up in the list, considering it's right next to Toppling March, something I always had trouble with. I would put it closer around 30-39 imo.

All this time I thought you were supposed to adjust your presses when the notes pass by the middle of the screen. It's so much easier now that I know you just follow the beats and not the visuals.
