Seeing Sekiro as the worst on the list made me feel personally attacked. To me Sekiro is the only souls game that I unintentionally go back to. I lost count on how many times I finished it pirated, and then I bought it on steam, absolute masterpiece, almost flawless, 98/100.

DS2 is my favorite. Best replayability (actual changes from ng+ through ng+6, 7 possible first bosses). Best PvP (dislike 1, 3, ER’s healing wars of attrition with effigies or estus, no 1’s wonky mechanics abuse). Respec. Bonfire Ascetics. Powerstance. Hardmode-Covenant of Champions. Resurrect dead NPCs. Death counter. RatBros. Spicing down spell requirements with incense. Gear designed with low stats in mind, increasing their power. Slower combat allows more room for different timings, cancels, baits. In the remaster, give it 360 deg movement instead of 8-way, and it’s perfect. DS1, DeS are next, simply bc the map through Sen’s Fortress is perhaps gaming’s best. Not a single ng+ play through, oddly enough. PvP is filled with weird tech i don’t have the time for. DeS is classic. DS3, ER, BB are all good. Their faster gameplay annoys me most of the time. I get a headache from Sekiro’s clanging swords, when I’ve watched streams of it. So chances are, I’ll never play it.

My rank is Sekiro Bloodborne Elden Ring Dark Souls 3 Dark Souls 1 Demons Souls Dark Souls 2 DS1 was my first souls game so it stings especially hard that the last 1/3 of that game is just trash. It’s easily a 10/10 game right up until you get the lord vessel, then completely falls apart after that. Demon ruins/lost izaleth are especially atrocious. The last third just brings the whole experience down to a 8/10 at best. I wonder if they ran out of time or money to drop the ball so bad…

Putting Sekiro at #7 and Demon's Souls at #2 is just insane to me. I tried to like the Demon's Souls remake. I nearly reached the end of the game when my run got fucked over by World Tendency and I just gave up on the game out of lack of interest. I'll grant you that that game is very open. It's also full of a lot of stupid bullshit that was rectified in later Souls games, such as not having shortcuts in general, halving your health for the crime of dying (with the exception of DS2, which did it even worse), and having World Tendency in general. Seriously, fuck Demon's Souls. I did really did Sekiro, though not as much as Bloodborne.
@ChaosSoulYT
@ChaosSoulYT Жыл бұрын
I think any issues I may have had with Demon's Souls never really were shown because I honestly found the game so easy. I am not saying this to be elitist or to undermine your experience with the game, however, runs back from bosses and the halved HP and limited healing items are all common complaints thrown at the game, but asides from Flamelurker, (and strangely enough the Armor Spider) every single boss in this game I beat within 1 or 2 tries as you can see on my Lets Play, and so I never had enough time to get frustrated by some of the annoyances that the game may have. This probably comes from me having played through Dark Souls 1 (the game Demon's Souls is most similar too) about 20 times at this point, so therefore I felt at home with the games mechanics and movement, so I breezed through most of the game. If you feel more comfortable with the more faster paced nature of the combat in Sekiro, Bloodborne, Dark Souls 3 and Elden Ring (which I am assuming you do, since you are a big fan of Bloodborne and Sekiro) then the slower, methodical combat of Demon's Souls and Dark Souls 1 might not be as suited to your playstyle, therefore they might seem more challenging, and the punishing mechanics might frustrate you more, but as someone who finds the slower, methodical pace better personally, I probably get frustrated with Sekiro as much as you might do with Demon's Souls.

So far we've seen eye to eye on so many things when it comes to the Souls games, and it seems it's happened once again, as I agreed with basically every point brought up on this video, along with most of the rankings. I honestly jumped out of my chair and yelled "YES" when I saw the top 2 rankings, as they are the same as mine. I swear, spot #2 (not saying it cause I don't want to spoil the video for anyone 😌) is beyond underrated. That game and spot #1 are my two favorite games in the entire series, and while I love/appreciate the other entries, those 2 just nailed everything so perfectly and in such a way that I don't know if FromSoftware will ever truly replicate, especially with their focus shifting more and more to the boss fights and cocaine infused dodge roll/NK timings/one shot death/infinite combos/sonic speed combat that has been slowly evolving from Bloodborne (where it was fun) to DS3 (where it was still fun) to Sekiro (where it was fun, but questionably difficult at times) to Elden Ring (where some bosses feel borderline unfair [this is just one example of many, but some unavoidable attacks like Mohg's ceiling stab that you can only avoid if you drink an arbitrary physick flask or something? It's so dumb and doesn't even rely on your own skill, just a gimmick]) when in reality, I just want another game that puts as much emphasis on atmosphere, an interconnected world, and UNIQUE bossfights/encounters. I could go on, but I don't want you to have to read an entire college essay, so I'll leave you with my ranking: 1. Dark Souls 1 2. Demon's Souls 3. Dark Souls 3 4. Elden Ring (this is interchangable with #5 for me, just depends on the day and whether the game is pissing me off or not 😂) 5. Bloodborne (I know this is a hot take, but the final few areas, and one really terrible late game boss, really spoiled the experience for me. Not to mention early game Blood Vial farming is an annoyance, and an arbitrary waste of the players time, though this problem thankfully goes away by the midgame) 6. Dark Souls 2 7. Sekiro (not even a souls game, so it's hard to compare it to the others really) Sorry for such a long comment. I have a tendency of doing that on your videos it seems 😅 keep up the great work my friend! Don't go hollow ♥️

I largely agree honestly! I'm glad to see people put Demon's Souls right with Dark Souls; both are incredible games and it always saddens me to see Demon's so unappreciated considering how innovative and unique still is on its ideas. My only changes would be swapping ER and DS3 (Repetition is a big issue in ER but is a lot less striking as a game as far as I'm concerned. Is when the series started losing its edge and the world is too uninspired for my taste) and I would put Sekiro below Bloodborne, but I see your arguments for both placements

Did you turn on FPS boost in the options on Xbox Series? I have yet to run into anything but 60FPS (yes at 900p but constant 60) nor have I seen any gameplay footage online that shows anything otherwise. DS3 should run at 60 FPS on any current platform provided you have a good enough PC, a Series console or a PS5. Kinda cool that all the Dark Souls games can run at 60 on each platform now.

But yeah, all the others seem to adore Elden Ring and Sekiro and place them on or near the top, while disrespecting DeS and DS1, but this dude really knows what he's talking about. And also has the balls to speak his mind and not worry about pissing off fanboys. Good work, mate. P.S. We seem to agree on every other Soulsborne game, so I'm sure you'll (or maybe already have since this video is 4 months old) eventually come to adore Bloodborne as much as I do. People do be loving Sekiro but for many of players (including me) it missed everything that made me fell in love with souls games in general. - Story was set in feudal Japan and not a dark fantasy otherworldly universe - Setting limited the creativity of areas by the getgo ( Sekiro is a beautyful game, but every other title had a better area design in general) - No build/weapon variety allows for 0 replayability value since you'll be doing the exact same thing as the first time - No multiplayer/PvP system - Not as intuitive story ending choices - Worse boss/enemy design and creativity ( while Dark Souls were alway loaded with humanoid knights and warriors, there were always examples of large beasts and horrifyling monsters to spice things up. Demon of Hatred is literally the most outstanding boss of Sekiro, and even then he's just chilli-flavored Manus from DS1) - The lack of weapons and armor also meant less remarkable loot in general which (for me) made exploration less appealing. What's the point of checking under every little hidden detail of the map when I know the loot I'll be finding is underwhelming compared to Dark Souls. I'm not saying Sekiro is bad. For people who love Japan, beautyful graphics (cause Sekiro is objectively the best looking FromSoftware game), and extremely skill-based combat with perfectly challenged difficulty, Sekiro will be a definite best. But for guys like me who always loved Dark Souls games for their worldbuilding, endless build possibilities and variety, creative enemy and boss desing and interesting PvP system, Sekiro won't deliver the same way as all other FromSoftware games did.

I love Elden ring because it gave me the one thing I was missing from the others and that is a truly open vast world. BloodBorne I love equally because the combat system with the rally mechanic and backseat is perfect for me and my play style. The trick weapons are GENIUS and just oozing with slick smooth swagger! And as a person who was a fan of HP Lovecraft, Bram Stoker, Mary Shelley, and Edgar Allan Poe, as well as mangas like Berserk and all the worlds of Junji Ito where he crafts these depictions of dark twisted uncanny humanity, BloodBorne clicked with me INSTANTLY! For example, the Fishing Hamlet is heavily inspired by Lovecraft’s Shadow over Innsmouth, and the vilebloods of Cainhurst castle as well as the area itself is inspired by Bram Stoker’s Dracula. Dark Souls 3 has the best overall boss quality. I think we can all agree. The roster is just STACKED from the Beautifully Tragic magic and fight of the abyss watchers linking to Sif and Artorius to the horror seeing that Aldrich consumed past characters and the sorrow of Yhorm’s kingdom being laid waste. The Dancer being graceful yet deadly, and the way she steps to the notes of the OST is just gorgeous yet terrifying. The reveal of Gwyn’s fiest born was MAJOR and it interesting how he was way more powerful than his father. Duelling a King of Mythology now proven Real atop the very grey stormy clouds of his dominion is just phenomenal and jaw-dropping. The cutscenes of Friede and Gael are my favourite alongside the cutscenes of Ludwig Gehrman and Artorius. Friede, the pretty little lady with no footwear 🤣 but a massive scythe… She shocked some players with her speed not to mention it being the first ever 3 phase fight. Gael was the best conclusion to the series, the lore, the arena, the voice acting, the music, all so cinematic and great payment of respect to Berserk especially! This comment is too long so I won’t describe the other games 😭

Love me some spicy takes, but I don't know how @SoulReborn can be so based and not based at the same time :P My main disagreements would be: 1)Demon's Souls is a bare-bones edition of the FromSoft formula. Is it a great game that innovated back at the day? Of course, but in my eyes, in 2023, it's a proof of concept. 2)The highly critical stance on Elden Ring from FromSoft fans I don't get. For every repetition there's a great idea or an amazing vista or a great piece of an expansive lore segment to get into. The variety is insane and, for me, hugely overshadows the repetitive nature of the open world. Repetition is present in all FromSoft games, mind you. Anyway, these are my two cents. Love the content, absolutely agree on DS1 (it's my absolute favorite game of all time also) and Sekiro shouldn't even be considered in this tier list because it's so different from others (still a great action game and a better experience than DS2 by far). My personal ranking would be: 1) DS1 2) Elden Ring 3) Dark Souls 3 4) Bloodborne 5) Demon's Souls 6) Dark Souls 2 (way behind). Sekiro is in a different class on it's own, one of the best action games of all time and, if compared, it would rank right beneath Bloodborne.

I feel like a reason for your list may be because you started with the faster paced games first and then went back to the slower games which naturally will mean you might have a bit of difficulty adjusting to a different paced game and if you are used to a faster style you would probably prefer that and feel a slower style would be a bit jarring. It's funny that we have both got bloodborne still very high though. I respect your list though and its awesome seeing someone who is newer to the series here 👍

I got into the souls games in late 2021, so my list is pretty short. Bandai pls put DS3 on sale. 1) Dark Souls (became my favorite game of all time) 2) PS3 Demon Souls (I agree with the complaints about the soundtrack, i have no doubts about the remake being amazing, and i'd play it over the original if i could, but i LOVE original soundtrack too much and the remake while it has good music it can't compare. Also the Tower of Latria is my favorite area in a souls game so far) Massive Gap 3) Dark Souls 2 SotfS (i've learned to TOLARATE the game, but i'm not sure i would call it good. And i don't mean "it's a good game but a bad souls game" like most people say, i think it's just bad-mediocre) Planning on playing Sekiro soon.

Finally someone, rightfully critisizing Ds3. Everyone seems to ignore the linear and boring world, cheap fanservice and lack of build/combat variety. Dual-wielding and poise is gone, armor and shields are useless. Hit and dodge is the only effective method; which feels like they assumed the succes of the Bloodborne was because it was fast. So we have a game that does not have the connectivity of Ds1, large world and build/combat variety of DS2, organic-feeling agressive gameplay of Bloodborne. There is nothing it gets right on its own.

Ds3's boss line up absolutely destroys Ds1, Ds2 and BB. It arguably has a better line up than all the other games combined.
@zaboono
@zaboono 8 ай бұрын
coming off dark souls 1 after playing ds3 twice, I can say that while ds3 is a lot more linear, it does generally have much better areas than the first game. DS1 has a few good areas like anor londo, the depths were pretty cool I guess, undead and parish are both quite good as was the dlc, but just about everything in ds3 past the boreal valley other than irythill dungeon/profaned capital are much better areas, plus things like the undead settlement and the high wall, and the church are also great areas, and the ringed city might just one of best areas in the trilogy in my opinion. Let's just say I'd rather go through farron keep again than I would places like blighttown, lost izalith, tomb of the giants (though better than the other two was still very annoying). The only area that was decent from the latter half of the game was new londo, which is at least aesthetically cool but does have a pretty lame boss. Dark souls 3 just has much higher boss quality as well
@lotrfan4237
@lotrfan4237 Ай бұрын
Agree completely. Ds3 is carried hard by its bosses. The areas suck ass, even the dlc ones, they all look the same and have by far the worst level design in the series. People criticized ds2 for its ganks when the travesty that is the Ringed City area exists.

They are dragging you for your opinion 💀 I vehemently disagree with this list but I'm not bothered. I've given you a view and a like on the vid. I respect you putting your ballsy opinions on the internet. Despite Sekiro being my second favorite of the games here, I wanna offer a little bit of a more nuanced look at the game for people who might not like it as much. People tout this thing as some flawless masterpiece, and I do love it dearly, but I don't think it's perfect. My biggest issue with it is actually its biggest strength: the combat. The combat is very rhythmic and it feels so so satisfying to figure it out (it's fairly addicting imo), but at the same time, so many fights can be boiled down to just alternating between L1 and R1 and you win. The combat being so limiting makes a lot of fights feel extremely similar. And then there's shit like the Demon of Hatred, which is wholly antithetical to the entire combat philosophy. On that note, I find the fantasy elements of the game a pretty fascinating bunch. It really doesn't feel like you're really fighting these mythical creatures. For instance, you one shot kill the giant serpent. The Divine Dragon is a gimmick fight. The Headless are the most annoying piece of shit mini bosses ever. The point is is that what I was saying before about the combat being so limiting also lends itself to damn near betraying the fantasy aspect of the game because you either fight them the same way you fight every other enemy, or they're taken down in a very specific way that doesn't feel like you're fighting it at all. Lastly, the soundtrack is not that memorable. Granted, the soundtrack PERFECTLY fits the game, I just don't find many of the tracks memorable other than Owl Father and Divine Dragon OST. I don't hate Sekiro, it's my second favorite. I just don't think it's some ungodly perfect masterpiece like so many people are saying. Not even Bloodborne is either (which to me is even more egregious than people considering Sekiro a masterpiece but this comment would be too long lol). My rankings of the games just purely based off of personal enjoyment would prolly look like this: 1) Dark Souls 3 (best bosses and music) 2) Sekiro (addicting gameplay and also has a lot of great bosses even if they feel the same) 3) Bloodborne (incredible art design and combat, and an amazing soundtrack as well) 4) Elden Ring (the open world doesn't make it super replayable for me, but it looks fantastic, plays really well, and deserves the success it's had) 5) Dark Souls 1 (has not aged that well imo. The second half is a total slog, however it has a great story and some of the best level design ever conceived in the genre) 6) Dark Souls 2 (everyone knows the many problems with this game, but honestly I still enjoy it. It took a lot of risks and I respect it for that. It gives this game a very unique identity in the franchise) 7) Demon's Souls (I feel bad for this because it's the very first, but it just shows that From Soft had a lot to figure out here. The bosses are not fun to replay since they're almost all gimmicks, world tendency fucking sucks, and the level design is grueling, bordering on government-sanctioned torture especially world 5)

I do agree with your criticisms of Sekiro and for me I feel those reasons are part of what contribute to me feeling it is inferior to the other games. Your list I also disagree with but I can still see why you put them where you did. I love Demon's Souls, but like what you said about Sekiro, I acknowledge that the game does have flaws and for some people those flaws will be enough to make them not long the game as much as others.

I agree with your Dark Souls 1 and Sekiro takes completely. DS2 comes up a hair. It's clunky absolutely, but it has a good variety of builds and zones which gives it some replay value. Bloodborne will come up a notch when you play it more and learn the story. The atmosphere in that game is amazing. Elden Ring is empty and boring. Completely disagree that the open world is good. It feels very much like an artificial game world built around the player, not like it could be a real place. Demon's Souls is classic, but a lot of the areas outside of Boletaria suck.
@ChaosSoulYT
@ChaosSoulYT Жыл бұрын
Bloodborne for me won't overtake Demon's Souls and Dark Souls 1 simply for the combat and gameplay feel. I love the feel of those 2 older games and I don't think any other game will ever feel like home for me in the way Dark Souls and Demon's Souls do, unless something drastic happens, especially since the Frenzy mechanics and some frustrating grab attacks in the later portions of Bloodborne somewhat undermine the fantastic parry and regain systems. Dark Souls II for me can't come up just because, whilst the variety of builds and areas do increase the replayability, I won't ever want to replay that game much because of the clunky feeling. You can have all the engaging areas, weapons and playstyles you want, but if the core fundamental mechanics of the gameplay, movement and combat aren't good, then you just don't feel the incentive to try them all out. I wholeheartedly agree about Elden Ring. Something about the game feels a bit lifeless and like a step down from the Dark Souls trilogy. For me, traversing the open world can be fun, and finding some cool items and enemies and structures that you haven't seen before is enjoyable, but too much of it feels repetitive and lifeless. I stand by a point I made in a previous video, to me Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim are much better open worlds. Bethesda do open worlds fantastically, but FromSoftwares strong suit is building amazing levels, having satisfying combat and gameplay systems, and rewarding enemy and boss encounters.
@FranzFerdinand76

@@ChaosSoulYT Yeah Elden Ring needed some towns, villagers, shops, npc's moving about to break things up. Also, frenzy does suck, but on multiple playthroughs it becomes trivial because you know where it is. If you find the enemies too fast try the beasthunter saif found in the dlc. It's secondary form rocks. It's fast and a lot of fun to use.

No. Sekiro is the best specifically because it has the best combat. Swing, block, deflect, jump, dodge and grapple. All the other games are just dodge, parry or swing unless you use magic which is like playing with training wheels. You literally have no idea what you are talking about but think you got it all figured out. If Sekiro is easy, than all the other games are preschool activities.
