8:03 Rick uses side characters to show that they are still kids. Our characters don’t want to be heroes. They could not care less about glory. They want normal lives. The side characters, AKA the ones who aren’t forced on quests constantly, do what normal teenagers do. The side characters are what should have been. Being the hero brings tragedy and they fight this fact by trying to be normal kids. Also, from a writers perspective, side characters life details help your world seem real. The little bits of random information makes the story feel less isolated. Things aren’t static when the plot isn’t moving if people have lives outside of said plot. They are people being brought into a story, not a story that creates people.

There are SO MANY obscure ships in PJO AO3 that I have come across you would not BELIEVE it. For example, say Octavian. You hate him, you love him, you say good riddance, you call him anemic, you shove him into therapy etc. He's not really that deep of a character. (And it's never explained if he was being "influenced" by Gaia.) Aside from Rachel he is also shipped with Percy (because Percy), Jason, Reyna, Luke Castellan (dunno why), and also (as I found out when I dug deeper) several others, including Leo, Mike Kahale, Will, Nico, *Connor Stoll* which is so RANDOM, and also the poly "antagonists" one with Ethan, Alabaster and Bryce. (All of those minor ones have the grand total of like 7 fics each.) So strange...

I don't think you're understanding what people meant when they said solangelo came out of nowhere. Most people don't mean that we didn't see enough of the relationship developing, it's that Will is introduced as a love interest for Nico waayyy too soon in his arc. Nico's just come off what is arguably the most traumatic arc in the entirety of the series. He goes to Tartarus (alone), is trapped in a metal jar without oxygen for a week, is octracized and bordeline bullied by his teammates aboard the Argo II, forcefully outed by a god in front of a boy he barely knows and finally, he nearly fades into shadow (and is outed AGAIN to Reyna and Coach Hedge by his powers), all within the space of two months, without any breaks and the majority without even an ally. Then, instead of giving him time to heal or even just RECOVER, he's immediately given a random relationship arc in the last few chapters like checking off a box on a gay character to-do list. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE solangelo. I just think I would have loved them a lot more if they'd been introduced as a concept in The Hidden Oracle and confirmed in Tower of Nero, and I think a lot of people agree.

Walt is sick with the curse of Akhenaton (I believe that's how you spell it?) and is related to King Tut, who was also hit by the curse. His family line was cursed when Akhenaton led Egypt to abandon all of her gods other than Ra, so after he died, all the other gods cursed his family. Both Walt and Anubis had a crush on Sadie, so after some discussions, Anubis hosted Walt’s body to cure him of the curse, allowing Walt to live and for both of them to effectively date Sadie. As for Zia, she was there at the Brooklyn Museum, but later Iskandar put her into a protective coma, replacing her with a shabti, a clay figure. Eventually, Carter saves Zia from her coma, from which Zia dislikes him at first. By the end of the books, however, they grow feelings for each other and begin dating (I believe). Dunno if you'll read this or if you've already found another comment-anything of the sorts-but I hope this helps!

I’m with Percabeth all the way but it always made me mad how Annabeth came around. She saw how Luke used Salena’s feelings (another girl’s) and that was what finally made her realize that Luke was evil? It wasn’t the many crimes he’d committed or the fact he’d been trying his best to kill Percy for 4 years. I always felt like Percy should’ve mentioned that once or twice even if it would’ve started conflict. Before that it seemed like Annabeth thought she could fix everything and the 3 of them would go get lunch or something. Obviously they’re past that now but Annabeth is still weirdly friendly with people that have tried to kill Percy I guess it’s obvious Annabeth likes Percy in book 3 but it still feels like she’s more attached to Luke and who he was to her before he turned evil. The way Percabeth is written outside the original series makes it all worth it but it’s a lot to overcome for me.

The problem I have with people shipping Nico with anyone other than Will is that no one else can help Nico in the way that will can. Will was the best thing that happened to Nico because he helped Nico heal in his own without putting any pressure on him and I don't think anyone else could do that for him.

I will now out myself. Im a super weird shipper. Besides being a multishipper, im also somewhat of a dubious shipper. I'll just say it now. I was a devout Pertemis (Percy×Artemis) shipper as a teenager, still kinda am really at age 26 (though i have broadened my horizons and like perpollo now as well). There's just something i love about Percy being such a great man that a man hating goddess would see such goodness in him that she would find herself falling in love. You can call me cringe if you want, i know i am😅
