I’ve enjoyed reading a lot of different takes from all of you regarding placements! I definitely forgot a couple things about a few characters and I’ll be making some changes whenever I update this list. You’ve all also made some pretty good points about others that have made me rethink some of my placements. I knew going into this that a lot of you would have differing opinions regarding certain characters so I’m happy to hear others perspectives. We all benefit from a wider discussion about these things rather than just my view point, so thank you to everyone who’s offered their own insights. I know creating this video organically rather than going off a script caused it to suffer in certain aspects (like me forgetting details about a few characters) but if anything your comments have encouraged me to keep the format the same and learn from this initial experience to improve the way I approach this type of video next time around. Overall, for my first time making a video in this way, I’m happy with it, and the majority of you seem to be as well, but your feedback is important to me and I’ll be tackling this in a similar yet improved way next time around. Thank you as always for watching everyone, and I really appreciate all the feedback you’ve given me so far!

The Vile Eye, I think you should make an analyzing evil episode of Light Yagami from the Death Note saga from the manga and anime series because I would think he'd be an interesting villain to cover for his character, personality, how he became what he is, and the way his motivations changed in his series from the manga and anime during the beginning. I hope maybe one day you will do a video on him, I think it would be awesome!

Great vid! Love your stuff. I do think you classified Alex wrongly. He’s def S tier. And I’ll tell you why. He ENJOYS torturing people, inflicting terror and toying with people using violence. Recall his fantasizing about torturing Jesus. In fact, I think the movie’s story requires Alex to be a kind of S tier evil person. His numbers of victims might be low; but he does the evil he does, not because he’s hired to do it, or society made him do it, or because he has a distorted view of justice - he does it because he really wants to do it and he has no moral qualms about doing so. Everyone else has a kind of excuse, but I think what makes A Clockwork Orange so impactful and dramatically compelling is that Alex has no believable excuse. We know it’s total BS when Alex tries to give excuses; we know it’s him trying to make people empathetic to him so they don’t punish him as harshly as they would otherwise. S tier par excellence!

As soon as Gus was out of the picture Walt became a kingpin and didn’t bat an eye at Todd murdering a child to cover their tracks. He would’ve killed Brock if he’d seen it as necessary. Anyone who gets in the way of Walt’s success regardless of innocence or guilt is liable to be killed in his eyes.

personally I would rank Alex from a clockwork orange much higher. he lives in a dystopian world where crime is normalised, however I believe he would have chosen this route one way or another, He doesn’t kill just because he sees other people doing it, he does it because he gets immense pleasure from doing acts such as rape and violence. I would personally rank him around high A to low S tier :)

Yea, just because he gets treated like subhuman filth doesn't mean he's got an excuse. The movie is amazing at making you morally conflicted. Obviously he deserves punishment, he tries to become a good person by going through the experimental procedure, now you might say, he only does it out of self interest, but here lies the issue, a psychopath that knows they don't feel remourse or empathy, trying to improve themselves by putting themselves through some disturbing experiments deserves some praise, they don't have the capability to do it out of empathy but they're still doing it.

Joker (TDK) should be closer to the top of A tier. His “redeeming” qualities for all we know are lies, because his origin story is never known and we know he is a compulsive manipulator. He also relishes the idea of being an Agent of Chaos.

I get where you're coming from but in my opinion the whole "agent of chaos" thing kind of makes him less evil. I mean sure he's out there looking to cause harm and basically trying to ruin the "established order"(bit of a stretch for gotham but you get what I mean) but he's doing it because he wants chaos for everyone, including himself. I think that makes him a maniac but not exactly a tier evil.

Mind you, the tier list had Patrick Bateman close to the top of A tier, whom is truly a maniac and also very evil in his murderous ways, except, his issue is that he can’t control his lust for blood, where as the jokers list for destruction is completely controlled, dialed in, and calculated. Like you said, it’s kind of hard to ruin the “established order” of Gotham, because there already was no real order, but creating plans to pin people completely against each other ( the end of the movie ), slowly killing a man in Harvey Dent by turning his entire world upside down through death and manipulation, and continuously proving that he has no care for human life, with his body count of 23, all of which being completely brutal. I just can’t see someone like Walter White or Tony Montana being considered more evil than the Joker. It feels weird to me.

That movie has been picked apart so much that at this point we know which of his made up stories was the real one. He was a soldier in Iraq and his convoy got hit by an IED, which is where he got the scars on his face as well as his proficiency with weapons.

I think that an universal morality just isn't possible, I mean if aliens come to earth they would follow a kind of morality we couldn't be able to comprehend, and the same would be for them. For a universal human morality I would argue for its existence, because it's a product of our evolution, then every culture put a different spin on it.

@@InZamasuWeTrust Exactly. Not only that, but Palpatine was sort of neglected by his family. He also had Plagueis heavily influencing him, such as pushing him to kill his father. We never see a single thing wrong in Michael’s life as a child. He killed his sister for no discernible reason. He waited for years patiently and upon escaping began killing again, again for no discernible reason. He was just pure evil.

Michael Corleone Should probably be B list because of Fredo He is worse than the Joker but not nearly as bad as *THE* *JOKER* Annie Wilkes should be higher (he said so himself) probably A tier And probably lower for Commodeus. As while he is a bad guy. A really bad guy he isn't as bad as Patrick Batemen. He is too sympathetic Commodesus should probably be around Davy Jones as they are both Birds of a feather Azula on the other hand deserves C tier. She isn't nearly as vile as Kurtz Here's the thing about Azula. She is vicious without a doubt but in some ways she was abused by her father just as much as Zuko just psychological instead of physically Something we forget about Azula is at the end of the day she is a 14 year old girl who was conditioned by her country and father to be a killing machine. And unlike Zuko who had his mother and Iroh the only person Azula really had was Fire Lord Ozai. Let that sink in Unlike say Walter she never had the chance at a normal life. She is a 14 year old girl who had no one except child burning, genocidal Ozai That's it While Zuko had his mother and Iroh Azula really couldn't have turned out any other way than she did Also remember the nations are at war even if she is on the wrong side Azula is still technically a solder (just a high ranking one). Azula's actions are made as both a soldier and a possible ruler and unlike Kurtz she was born into Fire Nation service. She couldn't just walk away. Kurtz on the other hand is a full grown man who CHOOSE to be a soldier Because of this Kurtz is FAR worse than Azula And unlike Tony she never really got to see her way of life is wrong as all she has ever been exposed to growing up is the Fire Nation and war. That's it. Nothing else Azula is like Asami 22:58 but younger and in a kids show. And unlike Asami she is far less sadistic at least from what we get to see. Murderous yes but I have a hard time seeing Azula commit some of Asami's acts. (Though maybe I am wrong). And she does have some soft spots. She clearly cares about her friends as she went insane when they left her. She cares about her mother as she cries when her mother (hallucination) tells her she loves her. And it's very strongly hinted that she cares about Zuko in a twisted way. That's why she lied to her father and said Zuko struck the final blow against Aang not her. She really had no logical reason to do this and she offers us some weird excuse but in reality she wanted her big brother back. And she even said she was WORRIED about him when he started to turn "traitor" for team Avatar If she where truly evil evil there would have been no talk. Zuko is a threat to her place as Fire Lord. She would murdered him in season 2 and laughed about it. But she didn't She did absolutely EVERYTHING in her power to "turn" Zuko good again. Despite the fact that she knew that he had the potential to be a massive threat in the future In fact. I would take it a step further. The reason Azula is constantly roasting Zuko (no pun intended) is because deep down she cares about him and in her mind if anyone knew that she actually had feelings. They wouldn't see her as this all powerful bad ass and her father would also lose respect for her which like her brother she REALLY want's to please him. The writers could have made her Zukos Older sister which would put her around 18 or 19 by the shows end which would make her an adult. But they didn't. They wanted to make it clear she was the younger sibling because Azula is a victim. Azula has some VERY deep seeded emotional issues as seen in the episode ember island But again she isn't worse than Kurtz. It really isn't even close However Azula does admit that even she sees herself as a monster Both her and Alex and Tetsuo really seem to be birds of a feather. They are all children who are products of their environment and have been shaped by their parents (or lack there of) into what they are. They cover alot of historical figures but also they have covered alot of high ranking Nazi officers and all the way to the top man himself. Its done in very good detail while remaining neutral and professional. Highly recommend you check that channel out. When you see those such as the one about Göeth and the other high ranks how utterly horrific men they were with absolutely no simpathy for the suffering they caused.

@@ArgonNoble I think because it was recent enough that it can be recalled fairly accurately and typically the higher ranking officers weren't the type of soldiers that were pushed into the regime. They were loyal to Hitler for the most part and actually wanted to do what they were doing. Also some of the torture and slave conditions they kept people under were pretty horrifying.

He's really not even a villain by my estimation. An antagonist for the story sure, but a villain I think is a bridge too far. (SPOILERS FOR MOVIE BELOW) While at the outset it's certainly possible he is a villain, information you gain during the movie shows that his whole plan was never meant to intentionally cause harm to anyone. The VX gas rockets are a bluff that he will never allow to hit their target, he only wants the 100 million to distribute to the men working the plan with him and the families of the men who died under his command, and he's genuinely pissed when he has to kill Commander Anderson's incursion team who pop up in the shower room. During the opening sequence, he's shocked and appalled they lost someone accidentally during the VX gas heist, and in the graveyard we see him asking for forgiveness to his dead wife, leaving his MOH on her tombstone, and flat out saying he's tried everything. When he's speaking with the FBI director Wolmack who asks about the Red Sea Trading company, he openly admits its a slush fund for the US government for illegal arms sales, meaning the money he's asking for isn't coming out of the taxpayer budget, but money the US has gained illegally through sales it's not even supposed to be doing, a point punctuated by the other general stating "Jesus Frank this is classified information" along with an absolutely shocked look on Wolmack's face. When the plan begins to fall apart, he fully admits the bluff, and tells the men to flee under cover of VX rockets and hostages and he will face the consequences alone. I mean really at every single turn the guy is trying to either minimize death and harm and the whole purpose of the plan is the financial security of those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for their country. I'm sure some may be able to crowbar him into the villain box if they want to, likely pointing out the inherent dangers of the plan, refusal to continue going through proper channels, etc. I just can't in good conscience put the guy in the villain category.

It was the only scene in which Anton showed even a hint of remorse and he didn't want to kill her. In truth, he really didn't have to. He felt compelled to because he told Moss he would if Moss didn't give up the money.

I wrote an essay on Griffith for English class and why I think he is the perfect villain. My point being that although there are many villains who you can admit are bad people, but have a sense of charm to them that makes them likeable to the audience, or sympathize a little with, Griffith is different in the fact that he is so charming and charismatic to everyone around him that it makes the reader who knows how disgusting and selfish he is hate him all the more, knowing that other people in the story think he's a stand up guy. And I also made a point of how genius Miura was in flipping the usual villain backstory trope on its head, where instead of using a backstory to make the villain the object of sympathy, he uses a massive backstory to give the reader a compelling reason to hate the villain, and that a villain that the audience truly hates as if they were a real person is way more compelling than a villain that the audience finds admiration in.

Dooku and Anakin were, at least, full fledged adults by the time they were turned to the Dark Side. I'd put both Dooku and Maul in high B-tier.

Depends. If you look at his internal monologue in the novelization, it's revealed that he was, even as a jedi, at the very least, a sociopath, if not an outright psychopath. His outward demeanor of a upstanding man with a deep conviction of personal justice, disillusioned with the corruption of the Republic was, for the most part, a facade. He did not particularly care for anything or anyone but his own view of how the world should be. He DID have his best intentions for the galaxy, but said best intentions involved setting up a galactic authoritarian dictatorship and turning the Jedi survivors into a Sith army under his and Palpatines control. Technically, he got his wish. Though he didn't live long enough to see it.

I liked the ranking list, its good to change things up every now and then. Ps. General Grievous could be a interesting character for analyzing evil, in his expanded story he is somewhat of a complex villain, once a hero and leader for his people who end up used by the siths as an monstrous war criminal.

If I remember correctly his backstory changes quite a bit depending on if you’re looking at the pre-Disney expanded universe (now labeled as the now non-canonical Legends continuity) version as opposed to the current Disney canon version, so I think it would be worth looking into both versions to explore different aspects of his character

I'd love to see an analysis of A.M. from "I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream." Hearing what you said about HAL got me thinking about A.M. and the heinous things it did, and whether or not there's any deeper concepts to a machine that learned to develop a hatred greater than any other character in fiction.

But as far as personality and the character's identity, Judge Holden might just be the purest evil in fiction. I'd love to see Analyzing Evil: Judge Holden, but of course Blood Meridian is never getting an onscreen adaptation.

“Everyone’s favorite sigma male.” Wow I never knew the man himself keeps up with the world. Adding on to this, I think you should talk about the Patrick Bateman in the novel “American Psycho”, the one in the book is more gruesome and violent than the Bateman played by Christian Bale.

Oh yeah, movie Bateman is a choir boy compared to book Bateman, who should be S-tier. I'd prob rank him just below the Emperor tbh. Amon Göth killed because of his position, but considering book Bateman's sadism (freaking finding a semi dead rat and instantly thinking of torturing women with it), with his heavy racism in the book, if he was given Göth's place he'd be worse, I could see him doing experiments like Mengele added with the horrid r ape of Stalin's right hand man, Beria (it's honestly sad how so many few people know of Beria, he was a disgusting animal). That being said, Bateman as much of a monster that he is, shows some small compassion a few times in the book, like towards Jean. He also felt guilt towards him aborting a few kids and told a model to get out because he felt he couldn't help himself hurting her, so he has some very, very small empathy and understanding that what he is doing is wrong.

i LOVE how this list puts the tiering system on how evil a character is instead of their quality as a character like other lists. that is pretty nuanced, awesome work! i hope we can see more tier lists because this one has something that others don't. could you ever analyze H from Unthinkable when you can? i think he's a character you'd love to take a look at.

I'm pretty happy to see Ganondorf in the same tier as Palpatine, especially how they are in the top three. I have an idea for a potential video, and it would be amazing if you could do it. How about videos about literal monsters from cinema? I'm thinking particularly of kaiju from the Godzilla series, namely King Ghidorah. He's often depicted as being intelligent, cruel, and seeks to destroy planets either to suit his needs, or for enjoyment. But at the same time, his sheer size and power is like trying to fight a force of nature, which is why humanity often fails to stop him, and humanity has to rely on other giant monsters to stop him.
