i like how the 2nd one is still gremlins but not....its unique for how bad it can be viewed as or enjoyed depending on your pov and being directed by the same guy helps...he wanted to do something different but keep the og characters and feel kinda so i understand why he did it aka its not a typical cash grab sequel for the same director but different staff/writer..who could of just made another horror film with the same beats and made money if he wanted without trying that hard based on the ip alone all those years later...i think both work for different reasons but the first is a better film of course...but the 2nd is good in its own ways...that the first does not try to be good at like the comedy...

It is older than ParaNorman and Frankenweeine (by like a few years). The other one that I'm surprised wasn't one was Scooby Doo Zombie Island. I get that he didn't want to pile on the direct-to-video Scooby movies, but c'mon: that one's classic (and owes a lot to why the live-action Scooby movies happened in the first place).

The "What's this?" Song sequence is the only 3 minutes of Nightmare before Christmas that is a Christmas movie. The entire rest of the movie is crammed with Halloween imagery and spooky songs. Nightmare before Christmas is a friggin Christmas movie! The entire plot centers around preparation for Christmas! Gremlins is also a Christmas movie! I absolutely agree that Hocus Pocus is hyped to death, and I don't want to talk about it anymore. I wish I didn't feel that way. I really like the movie, and I adore Bette Midler. But the merch is lame and uninspired, and I'm willing to bed the sequel will be to. Otherwise, I can agree with maybe 15% of this list. There are certainly some things I'd move around, but I'm glad you included some of the ones you did. Here are a few I would highly recommend just to watch and enjoy; Crybaby Lane The Halloween Tree Dear Dracula Coraline (to the extent that it's spooky, not that it really happens around Halloween) Halloween is Grinch Night. Let me know if anyone ended up taking these recommendations, and if you enjoyed them. My personal S tier Halloween Kids movie is The Halloween Tree.

Nightmare Before Christmas is neither a Halloween nor a Christmas movie, really. It's a holiday movie, with a cameo from the Easter Bunny. Makes it hard to categorise, but it's a general Fall/Winter film rather than a film about a single day. The time passing and the change in seasons (Jack finally getting to see snow, for instance) is important enough to push it out of that box. Gotta say, wasn't expecting Monster House to get that high a score, it's not aired as often down here. But I do agree: it is a fine film, fat annoying sidekick and cringe romance notwithstanding. It's a genuine bona fide ghost story with a great twist, for starters. Although, the ending is kinda stupid when you stop to think about it for two seconds (they go through all that trouble to light dynamite... to toss into a fireplace. A lit fireplace. They specifically say the fireplace has to be lit, because it's the heart of the house. Why bother lighting the dynamite at all?) Scooby Doo: Zombie Island is one of my favorites for the same reason, even if I only got to see it aired once. It's a full-fledged ghost story, it's in a location with a genuine-sounding history, said history gets explored adequately, the voodoo magic near the end is questionable but passable for a kids' film. That said, if you added one Scooby animated film to the list you would have to do them all, and apparently there's a lot, so no remarks there. The Haunted Mansion, with Eddy Murphy, is just bad and forgettable, best thing about the film is the set pieces, everything else is kinda garbage.
