One of the main reasons why lie detectors are not always accurate is that the physiological factors they measure, such as arousal, can be influenced by various other stimuli. One potential alternative to asking questions during a polygraph test is to solely rely on the data recorded by the polygraph while comparing it to baseline readings taken before and after the individual experiences arousal. This approach could potentially be accepted by most people without revealing the specifics of obtaining the baseline readings.

fun fact: polygraphs are inadmissible in court because they're extremely unreliable. I assumed they were just going to use it to measure how physically aroused he was, because that's sort of what they measure. Though we should also point out that being physically aroused doesn't necessarily mean you're sexually aroused.
@drengr27592 ай бұрын
A commenter above you said 19 states do allow it in court, which is terrifying to me. Current accuracy claims vary from 88% to 95%, but those results come from extreme bias. If your entire career relies on the efficacy of polygraph tests, of course you'll claim it's highly accurate. No Bigfoot hunter will ever admit to being a total failure; they always find their "evidence". Scientific tests have concluded accuracy is hardly better than flipping a coin, and is even worse when testing neurodivergent subjects. I often wonder how many hundreds or thousands of innocent people had their lives ruined by polygraph tests, or how many criminals walked free. These fake tests can and will give jurors a false sense of confidence.

Polygraphs are inadmissible in court becuase they ARE reliable. Just think how many lawyers and prosecutors would be out of work if a suspect was polygraphed? No more political show trials, no more endless reporting about systemic racism in the courts, etc, etc. So if you are not guilty, you would take the polygraph. If you were guilty, you wouldn't, and the jury would figure that out really fast.
